Randy Couture, the only two-division champion in UFC history, is expected to announce a return to active competition this Thursday, reports the Wrestling Observer.

Since hanging up his gloves after a second consecutive knockout loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell in Feb. 2006, "The Natural" has repeatedly suggested he would return to the Octagon under the right circumstances. That could mean facing UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia (Pictures), 30, in March, a separate report from MMAweekly indicated Tuesday evening.

Two weeks ago, Couture told "Beatdown" on the Sherdog Radio Network that should Tito Ortiz (Pictures) defeat Liddell on Dec. 30 he would face the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy" if given the opportunity. Liddell's third-round technical knockout appeared to derail any plans of a Couture comeback.

The UFC, which is rumored to have heavily lobbied the 43-year-old two-time UFC heavyweight champion to return to the cage, will likely promote Sylvia-Couture for its March card in Columbus, Ohio. Couture (14-8-0) has not fought at heavyweight since succumbing to Ricco Rodriguez in 2002. In his next bout, Rodriguez gave up the heavyweight belt to Sylvia.

Thoughts??? I'm excited. I'd love for the natural to take that dam belt of Sylvia. I hate him!

Randy's my favorite fighter ever, but i'm pretty lukewarm about this. How could he possibly beat Sylvia at age 43? It'd be sad if arguably the greatest fighter the octagon has ever seen were to come back and suffer a beatdown. I can't think what he could have left to prove, he's already the supreme legend in so many people's eyes. In fact I'd almost be disappointed if this happened, I don't think he'd be any chance of beating big tim. But then again I spose if he did come back, and somehow managed to win, then my god his reputation and status would just propel into outer space.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this one. I just hope sanity prevails and whatever his decision he makes it for all the right reasons.

Agreed. But maybe he's seen the latest rocky movie and decided to have another go :) I can only hope that he gets in shape and wins. But then what? Mirko Cro Cop? A fight between a top shape randy and cro cop would just be amazing, but I think randy is past it and will never regain the top shape he once had. I mean 43 is pushing it.

It's a big ask. And Mirko would kill him.

Surely Randy wouldn't keep going, even if he beat tim. He'd retire right after wouldn't he?
Maybe his marriage bust up cost him more than he could afford......that's the only reason i could think for his return. Needs the dough. Surely the natural doesn't think he's still capable of winning a title? But then, if anyone on the planet could do it at 43, it's definitely randy couture.

Depends what sort of coin he's making from Zuffa to appear as a commentator for UFC pay per views etc.

Im really undecided on this. He could really tarnish his legacy with a loss here. Youd think with UFC media stuff, his gyms and other appearances he'd be ok for money.

But he'd only be keeping the belt warm for Cro Cop although Big Tim would do a better job considering he practically sleeps in it.

Hot off the press, Couture just announced he's signed a 4 fight deal and first up is Tim Sylvia. He said he's got the itch again and he's in better shape/faster than he's ever been. Wants to fight the best in the world.
War Randy!:)

Man that made hairs stand up on my neck. I even punched the air a couple of times towards the end and gave out a 'go randy'.:)

I'm on his side too, big time, but jeez how can he possibly beat Sylvia?
I'm worried about him getting demolished, but then if he won, jeez the mma world would just go off.

I was monitoring a thread on sherdog that was monitoring the 'inside the ufc' show where randy was being interviewed by rogan. When he made his announcement probably 10 posters all noted what randy had said.
