View Full Version : What are the Candidates offering in this Election

 Over the last couple of weeks I have recieved a truck load of material from all the candidates for the upcoming Board election.

Lorraine Diggins and the Marcus Clarke Group seem to be offering a lot of motherhood and "trust me" type statements without too much substance - for instance I am not sure what another review of the Football Dept, will achieve and also what David Mckay can bring to the Club after he jumped off the Board a couple of years ago.

The main purpose of Diggins and the Clarke Group seems to be getting rid of Smorgan and half of his unity Group. What will this achieve, how much better will these people be and who will be president?

On the other hand Smorgan's Group have come with a proposal that looks very good on paper, but is short on specifics such as how it will be paid back etc. Is it pie in the Sky or something that can realistically be achieved within the parameters that Smorgan expects. Will it be a big white elephant or the saviour of our beloved Club.

The devil will be in the detail!

The question therefore is who to vote for:

(1) The Clarke Group and Diggins who are
offering not much other "trust me we know
what we are doing ,where the other Group
don't" or;

(2) Smorgan and his Group who admit they have
made mistakes in the past but now say they now have
a unfied and functional group who offer a long
term solution for the Club. At least they have put
forward something concrete that can be examined.
One question that can be asked about this is that
are the hands of one R Pratt and S Smorgan and
some of our wealthy supporters somewhere in the
background underpinning this proposal. If this is
the case, then the whole dynamics of the
situation would change.

The question we have ask ourselves is what can Clarke and co and Diggins (especially after she has be ostricised by the rest of the current Board) offer or do better than the Unity Group. Or will the Unity Group bring unification, professionalism and stabilty to the Club and, are their proposals realistic and achievalable?

There is plenty to think on. :)

Yeah - not sure what to make of all this. I think Diggins has been embarassed a little by latest actions against her and not sure if her actions are of somebody who is after retribution first and foremost.

I just hope we see something that's a little creative and has a high potential for success because (as I'm sure we are all aware) if the property development, etc. goes ahead they will need to make sure it's full blooded effort. Most of these ventures done in a half-arsed way usually cause more grief than they set to eliminate so I hope they are serious and get on with it should it go forth....gutsy move though
