A proposal from ICC management that would allow field umpires to consult with the third umpire - or video umpire - on any aspect of a decision about which there is uncertainty, is about to be put to a vote...the ACB is against it. I tend to agree with them, even though it seems there are one or two bad decisions per test.
Main problem I have is for low catches in slips...TV never really shows it 100% one way or the other.
Does anyone reckon its a good idea? Is it gonna be extended to no ball calling in the future?

I just think the game would be dragged out if we kept referring to the thrid umpire for every close decision.

I don't think I've ever seen a decision for a catch referred to the third umpire that hasn't left me feeling a bit uncomfortable. In fact the only one I can remember being given out was last summer when the video was inconclusive but it was probably the correct decision. Against that though is that the video is used for definate proof so the decision was technically wrong.
When the lights first came out I thought that the 3rd umpire had the option of going for the white light which effectively handed the decision back to the central umpire. This seems like a good idea because sometimes I'm sure the umpire knows what the decision is but just wants confirmation from the video. But once he's given the decision away he can't get it back.
The white light would need to be used in this way for the video umpire to be effective.
Imagine everytime a player is caught everyone waiting with baited breath for the third umpire to give the all clear that it wasn't a no ball.
The more I think about it let's keep going the way we are.

true Spogs, although Id like to see the exact proposal in detail before a definate yes or no.
