Considering the AGM is fast approaching, I thought that perhaps we could put down some issues that we want addressed at the AGM.
As I live in Melbourne and will be attending, I thought it might be an idea to find out if any of you interstaters or Melbournians that won't be attending have anything you want addressed?

Great thought provoking thread!:thumbsu:
How many people shoot from the mouth at these things with uneducated and ill informed dribble when a little time and effort can put the messenger in a good position to ask something of merit!
I would like to know.
What is the clubs primary goal?
How does the club go forward as one when there are still so many factions? Will this board election resolve the problems? And how will the 'Unity' ticket unite the club, members and supporters?
Not via a proposed development that will not bear fruit, for many years?

Great Idea!
A couple of questions I have.
a. As there has been much disunity on the board, and given that the future board will likely be a mix of the 2 tickets and 1 independent, how will you ensure the recent infighting and media circus does not continue. (Could be asked to any of them)
b. (To the Unity Ticket). The recent development announcements certainly look impressive, but there seems to be a big question mark over whether it will be able to gain the necessary approvals from the council and local community groups. What guarantees can you offer that if I vote for you, we won't just see these knocked back in the approval process, and therefore your main policy platform deemed null and void.
There are lot more questions, but I will leave those to others ;)

Good luck getting your questions in. Smorgan is no fool, he doesnt want question that are going to stump him and make him look stupid at the AGM. He WILL have dummys in the crowd with preconcieved questions to ask him, that he already knows the answers to. So many politicians do this.

No offense, but it is getting harder and harder to trust anyone with a join date post Oct 06, for the exact reason you are giving re the questions at the AGM.

I remember Lam Nhat Tien - a spokesman of Ho Chi Mins Vietnamese Communist Party doing this once.

I want them to outline a performance contract with terms and dates. If these aren't met, ie. promises aren't delivered (on many counts the promises that got them into power) then hand over the reigns. This will sort out the BS from the factual, realistic aims and activities.
But as a few of you have mentioned, club politics will allow them to hide behind false promises and extend terms with no positive actions complete. Just look at that d**k Ian Collins as an example. Main aim all along was move to Telstra Dome (which I am certain benefited his back pocket directly) - what happened to the 3 year plan that he should've been accountable for!!!

Like the sound of the performance base bit. But as a matter of fact, we would have to sack every politition in the country if that was the case!

I just want someone to tell me how they are going to stop us losing $2.2m in 2007. $2.2m is the $700,000 lost plus the AFl loan of $1.5m that we had to cover.
And before you answer, I dont think playing better will equal $2.2m. It might, it really might, but theres no way you can prove it.
If someone came up with any plans that talked about this I would vote for them.
At the moment its "Trust US" or "Dont Trust them"!

What about those who join these forums as a way to help alleviate the torturous annual October to March withdrawl symptoms?

One could argue that he joined to get more information/discuss trade week!
Why couldn't you address the point made by ClayBlues87?

Address what? He simply made a statement, and so did I. There was no questioning of his motives or why he joined.
There was nothing to address.
I will be attending as well, and it should be one hell of a night. I'm just hoping that it doesn't turn into a name-calling, you, did this, you did that type of night.

I don't think we need performance contracts. The equation is very simple. If Smorgon & most, or all of the Unity group are elected, we want to see concrete evidence, prior to the AGM next year, that their grand plans are achievable & definitely going to go ahead. If it becomes apparent we have been hoodwinked we use our democratic right as members to vote them out (assuming some alternative, quality people put their hands up to be elected to the board in their place). This upcoming election does not give the board a 3 or 4 year tenure like politicians are given at State & Federal elections.

Losses don't work like that. Loans are liabilities. It's true we need to find $1.5M to pay the AFL back, but that's not a loss.

The redevelopment plan sounds more concrete (http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,21083077%255E20322,00.html) than I first gave it credit for. I notice that the Unity ticket is backing Suss, almost certainly for his connections, with an eye on getting green lights from the state government.
It might be for real folks.

Plea for Blues to change
21 January 2007 Sunday Herald Sun
FORMER Carlton board member John Valmorbida has made an impassioned plea for change, saying it's time the club started operating as a team.
A disillusioned Valmorbida stood down last month, along with Bruce Mathieson, because he felt the board could no longer function.
"It's time the club goes forward, " Valmorbida said. "I just feel fresh blood is good to reinvigorate the club."

It is no point calling for change, if the quality of challengers leaves you somewhat underwhelmed. Surely if Valmorbida really wants what is best for the club he would rather see a quality ticket put together in 12 months time, than a mish-mash of challengers joining the board now, ultimately leaving you with 3 or 4 factions on the board. What we need to go forward is a united board.

Has to be better than the embarrassing rabble we have now. They continue to embarrass us on a regular basis. Imagine the Watts report would tell the story but, of course, Smorgon is hiding it. I wonder why? Sure we all would have heard about it by now if it was favourable. Does that register? United Board......haha, out board couldn't be more disunified. Factions, backstabbing, and of course if you disagree with the president you get frozen out. It'll be unified as long as everyone is a Smorgon "yes man". Smorgon's all for himself and his own backside, not there for the good of the club. You could tell that by the timing of his election. Of course you think everything's going great. Spoons, rabble, on and off the field, yep, fantastic.

He has to have the majority support in everything he does. If he was on the nose to the majority of the board, they will vote someone else in as president, plain and simple.
I dare say that those that vote with him, actually agree in principle to his plans. I mean, why side with him for the sake of it, when you don't have to and he can't touch you. He can't remove someone from the board without majority support.

You are a very angry man. You need to chill a bit more, then you might get the point I was making. We all know there has been disunity in recent months. We also know who is responsible for much of the disunity. One of those responsible resigned, the other continues to run a negative campaign in an attempt to save herself. What we have now is the choice between a ticket of 9 people (10 if you include Ari Suss, who Unity have nominated as their choice to fill the last position) or a ticket with 4 people, plus Lauraine Diggins & 5 members of the Unity ticket. That translates to a board made up virtually of all those who are pushing in the same direction (Unity), who have the open support of an existing board member (Sticks) or a board made up of at least 3 factions. A choice between a unified board, or more of the same faction fighting that you talk about. You can't tell me that you will be happy to see the next board made up of at least 3 factions.
As for your whinge about the Watts report, who's fault is it that when the report was going to be made available at the Dec 19 board meeting, a certain someone was so caught up on something else, that they forgot to pursue access to the report? Could this certain someone have been thinking about a big antique shipment about to arrive, or perhaps a hairdressing appointment? This person certainly wasn't focussed on the matter at hand.

when you're so passionate about something, when you love it so much, sometimes you dont want to hear the bad things. Or even when you do, sometimes it's easier to brush it off, or suggest that it's wrong, or blame other people anything instead of looking at the problem. We can blame the person who told us of the problem, because that's easier, and then they're in the wrong, not the thing we love - that's all ok....

:oYes. Sometimes though people are not telling us about problems, they are telling us what they perceive the problems and the solutions are. Some of them do it with great diplomacy and sincerity, some do it out of anger and frustration. Recognising that isn't necessary blaming the person for the issues at the club but it is recognising a trait that makes it harder to endorse what that person is saying.
In my opinion, if people say positive things about the club, they deserve at least the same level of protection as those that say negative things.
