Training at 10 am fri 19th jan.

Injury crew (modified program) consisted of ; JON (Shin soreness) , Hyde (OP), Schulz (hammy), Kingsley (hammy) and Peiterson (muscle soreness)

JON imo may be bludging to a certain extent. Will be right to fully train next week

Hyde is set to return to full training next week and will be right well before Nab Cup. Currently completing many agility drills to ensure his recovery is well on its way. IMO he’s right to go now, but hey it is preseason, where is the harm in waiting longer??

Schulz has re-injured this hammy since I last wrote a report before Christmas. He is just about right to join the main group over the next few weeks.

Kingsley is a more recent injury so I see him resting another week on top of Schulz. These two have trained together. Everything they do is together.

Kingsley has lost about 3 kg’s since joining the Tigers. Obviously due to our faster game style.

Peiterson- (excuse my spelling if it is wrong) Seems to be heavily struck by the training load imo. Just general soreness I would suggest. However in my previous sessions I have seen him push some heavy personal limits. So it is a possibility he may have trained too hard earlier in the week and still recovering. He’ll be back with the main group very shortly. Still am yet to see is leap, itching to see it. He has a massive handball length. Standing still was about 25 metres with ease. Has put on a few kg’s IMO.

The other obvious injury is Simmonds. Did watch most of the training session before leaving with what appeared to be his partner. For those that don’t know, he has re-damaged his ankle and required surgery. Will miss Nab cup but probably will be right for the Home and Away matches.

Onto the training, the team participated in a fairly light intensity session. They may have had a harder session yesterday..??.

Players who dominated;

-Newman in the middle
-Raines in the middle- bar a few poor kicks. He tends to struggle under pressure for the short distanced kicks.
-Jackson as a key FF or FP. Good set shot and players are using him.
-Moore with 4 important spoils, two which his team ended up goaling on. Run up the ground and kicked one him self 40 metres on the run.

I don’t care what most will say, but Moore is easily overtaking Hall and Gaspar. I would go as far to say he is our number two defensive type defender behind Polak. Bowden Brothers being offensive defenders.
Tambling attended training. Looked like he got off the plane only a few hours before the session. He didn’t participate in much of the training before the match practice, however played in the actual match, scoring himself a goal.

Indeed he is looking solid.

Meyer still seems too small. Personally I don’t expect much of him this season again. His class and smartness might score him a few games however. Needs to try baulk on a few more kilograms. He’s body may yet be incapable of that.

Forward line is extremely strong. Richo, Brownie, Pettifer, Schulz, Kingsley, Jackson, krakouer, Tambling are all capable of scoring a few between them.

Jack Reiwoldt will play many games this year, taking a huge pack mark over Richo. Richo seemed shocked but very welcoming to Jack’s tools for the forward line. Jack has perfect timing and an amazingly clean set of hands. After his pack mark he finished up with a 35 metre mark to receive a cheer from the small crowd of fans and plenty of encouragement from the players.

To be honest I really thought he actually was avoiding that contest. He quietly came in from the outside of the core group who were contesting.

A future gun with out a doubt. Yes he may be smaller than the average KPP, however he has the ability to use his body better than most would.

Hall we may see pushed up to the wing in a few games. Float around the HB and drift to the HF. He seems no different in terms of development, just played in a separate position.

Out of the young recruits, I see Riewoldt, Edwards, Connors and peiterson playing games. In that order too.

Angus Graham is solid and a massive tank. Was beaten by knoble in most cases, however I do see huge potential in this Lad. Depending on our injuries this year, he may just get elevated after Howat.

The actual session itself;

-Brownie buggered up a drill, forcing each and every player (Not injured obviously) to run one lap as hard as they could. Richo won, with Howat second. The whole group came a few metres after that with no one trailing behind. The younger players were the majoritory at the end.

The game style and plans in where the focus of training. EG when to switch the play, where to run to, where to kick to etc.

After this followed the match itself (to halves, bout 15-20mins)

Yellow; 5 goals 1.
Tambo, Moore, Tivendale, Reiwoldt and Jackson the scorers.

White; 1 goal 2
Polo the scorer.

These scores might have a few points etc missing but this is my closest.

Overall a fairly light intensity session, bar the match practice. Skills were down compared to Par, however it was raining.

Chaffey came for a visit, seems to put on a small amount of weight.

Other than that, things are looking alright. A few players injured short term, however every player seems set for round one.

From my perspective, the best thing I read was about Newman doing well - that's truly great news.:thumbsu:

There usual standards.

Not poor, but not worth a mention compared to others :thumbsu:

I have always mentioned that Hall should be played as a tall winger, he likes to carry the ball so instead of him losing it in our D50, he'll be kicking into our F50.

Why on earth would Tambo ask a n00b to pass it on? No need to hide the fact Tambo

Thursfield may have been absent.... didnt see him.

Moore should put it together, prove many wrong.

Hall drifting up to HF isn't so bad. IIRC he kicked 3 goals in the last qtr of round 22 in 2005 maybe it was???

I didnt mean ledaing towards the ball, just more so uncontested type ball work.

now that we have a decent amount of key defenders it will be interesting to see how rayzor goes this year. he needs to move away from a kp and i think if he does we might see a major improvement from him.

For his best position see the 2005 rd 21 game against Hawthorn.

How serious is Kingsleys hammy?
The main reason I want to know is that last year he did it a couple times and the other reaseon is I hope he plays round one of the NAB Cup. ;)

Probably not

Halls best position is playing for Coburg.

Agreed, don't need him or want him in out starting side, his best position isn't any good for the team, play him their and you are holding bacj better options

Could Rayzor be the new 'third' tall in defence now that kellaway has been delisted? personally i'd like to see thursfield in before him.

its frustrating when you have a guy who CAN be better than he is but cant help that he is so goofy and has no idea how to play footy, is shocking defensively and has no idea what to do with the footy once he's got it

doesnt help either that he is still a toothpick and it amazes me how clubs are so quick to discipline fat players but just keep waiting and waiting and waiting for other players to put size on when they should also be accountable for lack of effort

you dont wish injurys on anyone but you wonder why stuff happens to a kid like thirsty who has a real go and this dud keeps getting the odd groin complaint

also add the fact that he gets suspended in the last game and has to wait play his 100th (he has played 99 games? :o )

what a loser

Great report 09! Good news on Jack and I'm far from surprised as I've witnessed him do stuff liek that many times. Rather than build up expectation I've chosen to keep the powder dry on that lad but after chatting with him over Xmas I'm sold. Our forward line is looking awesome and he's a bonus.

I just asked how bad his injury was. Doesn't matter now because I found out he'll be back training by the end of the week.

Why can't we Geelong supporters has a conversation with Richmond supporters without Otto being brought up?

Anyway, if you wanna know how he's going, he's doing very well over the pre-season. Expect a big year from him.

See ya round of the NAB Cup. :thumbsu:

fair call :thumbsu:

He's slimmed down a fair bit, looked a fair whack over his ideal playing weight the last few seasons. If he gets back his fitness and leap which he seems to have done this pre-season lookout.
