Just the article from when he got injured...

I bring it up because I've seen the photos of him from the training thread (usually making a pest of himself:p)...can anyone update who's been to training, is he doing full training? Is he limited? The article suggested that he wouldn't be ready till midway through this year...and I can't find any other more recent info on it. Some watcher I am.:o

By the sound of it the coaching staff are not rushing back anyone and will make them all serve out their year. After the issues with a few of the previous knees I think they are playing it safe especially in a season which is likely to be a rebuilding one.

I believe Quigley was referring to the original 12 months off that was prescribed when he 1st got the injury (sorry Quigs if i'm off). So it would be 12 months since May which see him return about round 9 or 10.

See above...depends on each players situation I guess. Not the season off, just a years worth of recovery.

Precisely. Hadley and Garner become available again after the last practice match. That will mean they'll have their training workload gradually increased over about 4-6 weeks till it more or less matches everyone else -- assuming no niggles.
I would assume that would make it unlikely that either would be match fit enough to play round 1 or 2 for Suncoast. Perhaps a few minutes each quarter in round 3 might be an achievable goal -- if everything else was going fine.
Corrie's knee was apparently unusally bad (looked so inoccuous at the time), so they are only going to be more cautious with him -- being a rookie now, I'd think he'd have to do exceptionally well when at Suncoast when he begins his comeback in May to get back to senior footy this year.

Corrie takes the cake

Lions rookie Anthony Corrie stacked his way to victory last week at UnitingCare’s fourth annual Pancake Day Corporate Breakfast at the Carlton Crest Hotel.
Corrie was invited back to the event as the reigning pancake champion after he won their 2006 pancake flipping contest.
This time, Corrie led a team of four competitors in a pancake stacking race against Australian Hockeyroos captain Nikki Hudson and her team. The competition was fierce and despite dropping their pancakes six times throughout the three minute relay, Corrie’s team emerged as victorious.
The speedy Lions forward now has the unique honour of being the first ever back-to-back pancake champion.
160 people attended the charity event which raises money for Queenslanders in need, through supporting their agencies that include Lifeline Community Care, Blue Care, Crossroads (QLD), UnitingCare Health, Wesley Missions (Brisbane and Ipswich) and the Centre for Social Justice.
Corrie received rave reviews for his performance both with the frying pan and on the microphone as he entertained the guests with his usually quick-witted sense of humour. He was awarded with two cartons of pancake mix for his efforts.
While Corrie is currently focussing on a return to the football field later this year, he is sure to have the 2008 Pancake Day firmly in the back of his mind where he will aim to achieve an historic three-peat.
As part of the fundraising initiative, approximately 600 organisations around Queensland, including churches, community groups, businesses, schools and restaurants cooked and sold pancakes to raise money for those less fortunate.

That'll make it pretty hard for him to put together performances to get himself promoted back to the senior list.
However, the Lions management must've known how bad the injury was at the time, so never expected him to be back in 12 months. To me, there's just no sense keeping a bloke on the rookie list, let him play a handful of games then delist him. Hopefully Corrie will be given time to work his way back.

Great to see Anthony finally getting back on the park this week, lining up for Suncoast v Southport. Gotta give kudos to the boy...often forgotten but IMO was a very promising player when we had very few in the last couple of years. Not sure he'll have the time to prove himself this year, only 5 rounds to go and plenty still in front of him for a call up. Big question I guess is will he (can he) be retained as a rookie next year or will it be elevation or delisting?

My impression that is he can't be a mature rookie because he's previously been on an AFL list. And at a guess I thought the cut off for non-mature rookies was 23 years, so he would be too old.
Someone will undoubtedly come along and point out my errors though.

Corrie is 23 years and 1 month (b. 22nd June 1984). I'm not sure what the cutoff is but I'm pretty certain he is too old to go on the rookie list next year. IMO he is facing an uphill battle to continue his AFL career beyond this year.

Surely the Lions rookie listed him for a reason though. They were aware he wouldn't play much if any football this year. Has the emergence of a few other young players in our team changed their minds? IMO would be a great addition to the senior list...ready made, quick skilled wingman, would be good for depth if he's keen to stay.
I'd suggest his career is far from over, perhaps with the Lions it is.

It's all a matter of priorities. Remember we need to vacate spots for at least 3 draft picks, and vacate spots for other rookie promotions, eg. Begley. Therefore Corrie would have to be considered better than at least 5 senior players, and probably more.

Which players would you get rid of to promote Corrie?
If he shows some decent signs for Suncoast in the final rounds, he'll probably be delisted and redrafted unless there is serious talent still available at our last pick.

Corrie elevated to senior list
Rookie Anthony Corrie was today elevated to the Brisbane Lions’ senior list in place of James Hawksley who was placed on the long term injury list two weeks ago with an injured finger.
Corrie has played 31 senior matches and kicked 27 goals in his five seasons with the club.
He earned a NAB Rising Star nomination in 2005 for his four-goal match-winning display against Essendon at the Gabba in Round 17.
He managed only four senior games in 2006 before his season ended prematurely with a serious knee injury. He was subsequently placed on the club’s Rookie List at the end of last year and made his long awaited return for the Suncoast Lions reserves team against Southport at the Gabba last month.
Following his elevation, Corrie is now available for senior selection.

BRISBANE Lions youngster Anthony Corrie will play his first game in more than 12 months against the Crows at AAMi Stadium on Saturday.
Corrie last played against Fremantle in Rd 9 last year where he suffered a knee injury which required a reconstruction. His contract expired at the end of last season, but the Lions stuck by him placing him on the rookie list while he underwent the lengthy rehabilitation process.
He was today elevated back on to the senior list to replace the injured James Hawksley and will take his place on the bench in the must win game against the Crows.
Corrie has played 31 senior matches and kicked 27 goals in his five seasons with the club.
He earned a NAB Rising Star nomination in 2005 for his four-goal match-winning display against Essendon at the Gabba in Round 17.

Matthews has also revealed the extent of Anthony Corrie's knee injury and how special his comeback tonight will be. He said Corrie's injury was of a far greater scale than the standard reconstructions that take 12 months to recover from and the young forward had done well to make it back this season.
He also said most players battled with lateral movement after a reconstruction, but Corrie was moving as freely as he was before the injury.
"Just about every part of his knee was wrecked, so 12 months was never going to be long enough," he said.
"He's a player who has got good movement and his movement has been good since he came back. He hasn't looked like a player who is trying to find his feet."

TWENTY-TWO Brisbane Lions ran on to AAMI Stadium against the Crows playing for their seasons and at least one was playing for his career.
Anthony Corrie was one of Brisbane's best in the 26-point loss to the Crows, his first game in 15 months. He last played against Fremantle in round 9 last year where he suffered an injury so horrific coach Leigh Matthews said "just about every part of his knee was wrecked".
The silky skilled young forward gathered 23 possessions and only midfielders Luke Power, Cheynee Stiller and Troy Selwood saw more of the footy.
Most importantly, he looked to have lost none of the pace and evasive skills the Lions believed would make him a handy ground-level addition to their star big men Jonathan Brown and Mitch Clark.
"I was pretty impressed, it's been a while and it's good to be back," Corrie said.
"It was a bit fast to begin with, but I started to get into the rhythm of things and it felt really good out there.
"I thought I did my thing. I have to work on a few things but it was a fair first effort."
Corrie's knee injury was so bad season 2007 was expected to be written off. He was placed on the rookie list while he did his rehabilitation from his reconstruction.
He never imagined he would play senior football this year and there were no guarantees for 2008.
"I just planned to have a crack in the reserves, play desperate, work hard and do all the pressure things the club is asking for. I was lucky to get the call-up and I'm pretty proud," Corrie said.
"Yeah, I was playing for my career. I didn't know where I was two months ago.
"I put my head down, worked my butt off and came back. I was playing for my future and still am.
"I still have a week to go and maybe finals. I just have to keep working and I may get another contract."
Returning from knee reconstructions requires hard work, but it's nothing new.
Already this season Richard Hadley has worked his way back into the seniors after consecutive reconstructions, while Joel MacDonald was in career-best form after a year on the sidelines until he was derailed by a virus that infected his kidneys.
But Corrie's injury was so bad there were doubts he would add to his 31 senior games.
"People wrote me off, I worked hard but I've got to thank the club for working with me, especially Alex Moore (strength coach). I've got to give them a good wrap," he said.

Corrie finds solid ground

After several years of hard work, Brisbane forward Anthony Corrie has been rewarded with another chance – a spot on the Lions’ senior list.
The 23-year-old from the Northern Territory has been at the Lions since being drafted in 2002, but has had to overcome several hurdles to claw his way back from adversity.
After making his debut in 2004, Corrie suffered a broken jaw in Round 12 of that year and after playing in seven of the first 12 matches in the season, he managed just one in the second half of the year.
He played 19 games in 2005 and booted 22 goals, but an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament limited him to just four games in 2006.
The Lions delisted Corrie at the end of the 2006 season, only to select him as a rookie a few months later.
He returned for two games at the end of the 2007 season and a promotion to the senior list seems a just reward for his persistence.

End of Season Player Review
Last year Corrie suffered a particularly bad knee injury and was not expected to play much footy in 2007, if any at all. Consequently he was demoted from the senior list and picked up again on the rookie list.
Corrie is a decent player, but he is not necessarily considered someone with a huge upside, and having had a knee reconstruction there was a very real possibility he had played his last game at AFL level.
But he made a full recovery with Leigh saying his knee had regained full movement and was as good as new. He played his first game for Suncoast in round 18, and after some solid but not spectacular form he was a surprise elevation onto the senior list (replacing Hawksley). He was picked in the seniors for the round 21 clash against Adelaide and was one of our better players, picking up a career high 23 disposals.
While Corrie had a quiet game in round 22, he had shown enough and was given back his spot on the senior list at the end of the year.

BRISBANE Lions resident joker Anthony Corrie is set to concentrate on AFL once more after spending most of the past two seasons seriously injured.
Corrie has been restored to the seniors permanently and is not leaving to chance his spot on the list after spending this past season on the Lions rookie list recovering from a knee reconstruction.
"My goal was to get back on the senior list. This year was the do or die season which thankfully fell my way so I was pretty pleased," Corrie said.
"Players come in and out of the system all the time. You have to work your butt off every single training session in everything you do, even when you are unsupervised and just think that next year you might not be there."
Corrie injured his anterior cruciate ligament in round nine in 2006 against Fremantle.
It was a particularly serious injury, requiring a full reconstruction, which sidelined him for 14 months – six to eight weeks longer than the normal recovery period.
"The club showed faith and helped me through the period and making my return shows how much time and effort the club put into me and just getting me back on the field," he said.
Corrie did not play any senior games this year until round 21 against Adelaide, which was his chance to show his real worth.
Next year, Corrie plans to be stronger and fitter than ever following a solid pre-season.

Now that is exactly what you want to hear out of Nuxy. The only thing that was ever going to stop him becoming a very good footballer was taking it all for granted.

Corrie grows up

EFFERVESCENT utility Anthony Corrie reckons he can still run around like an 18-year-old but is banking on increased maturity to help him cement a spot in the Brisbane Lions side.
Corrie, who will turn 24 in June, says more than a year out with a knee reconstruction has assisted with his growing-up process.
After tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in round nine of 2006, Corrie entered 2007 on the rookie list before being promoted to play the final two games of the home-and-away campaign.
"Having the knee injury helped me a mature a fair bit – to get through the rehab you need to be disciplined," Corrie told lions.com.au.
"Like I said when I came back last year, I was pretty much playing for my career because I didn’t know if I was going to get another contract.
"If it hadn’t been for (strength and conditioning coach) Alex Moore being there and working with me on my rehab I guess I might just be playing club footy at the moment.
"With the year off I think I’ve learned a lot better how to look after myself off the field – eating the right foods, doing the right stuff and making the sacrifices you have to make to play in the AFL."
Lions fans are hoping 2008 will see Corrie continue to make the kind of impact he did late in 2007.
Called up off the rookie list for the round 21 clash with Adelaide at AAMI Stadium, Corrie had 23 possessions from defence, showing his injury had taken away none of his trademark dash.
"Being out for so long and having to watch was tough, especially when the team went the seven games in a row without winning last year – you watch from the stands and really want to help," he said.
"Coming back I didn’t expect to run around and get 23 touches but I’d had three games back in the reserves and I was hoping I’d go okay.
"I’d said to myself through my rehab that if got back I was going to have a real crack and that’s what I took into the games.
"If my knee was going to go again I at least wanted it go while I was having a crack."
Something else Corrie is hoping to have a crack at is an AFL final.
In 2004, as a 20-year-old, he was an emergency for the grand final clash with Port Adelaide, but he is yet to actually experience September action.
"Everyone is setting themselves to hopefully play finals this year," Corrie said.
"In some ways it’s not something we can control, but in other ways we can control it – we just need to win 12 or more games.
"The vibe around the club is really good. Everyone is putting in and working their butts off and we want to be able to take some confidence into our first game in March over in WA against West Coast."

More impressive sounding talk from Nuxy.
Amazing to think that, again possibly a knee reco has saved a career. With JMac it allowed him to rebuild his faulty kicking technique. With Nuxy, it appears to have allowed him to rebuild a faulty approach. Both has weaknesses that they couldn't ignore anymore once you took away the normal day-to-day demands of footy.
Of course, words are cheap, and Nuxy isn't out of the woods yet -- he could well drift back to old habits. But gee, he's saying exactly what I want to hear at this stage of the season
Interesting stuff.

Not sure about the his previous habits or 'approach'... but I do remember him being just about our best young player (in the very early 20's group) in 2005 & some of 2004. Often forgotten just how well he was playing prior to his injury and has now been overtaken by a bunch of young mids. This guy showed more then most of them before his injury. Looked great burning down the wing and has fantastic disposal. Pretty natural talent in my opinion and the 2 games last year showed it.
Is there a bandwagon going for this guy?:o

I remember a game against Essendon a few years ago when his last quarter heroics saved the day.
He definitely flies under the radar.

The consistent theme tends to have been he's not a great trainer and he's not super disciplined with his diet. Certainly for a young, skinny guy, he carried some unneccessary chub over the 2005/6 preseason.
He admits as much with this comment:
"With the year off I think I’ve learned a lot better how to look after myself off the field – eating the right foods, doing the right stuff and making the sacrifices you have to make to play in the AFL."
To me, regardless of Nuxy's undeniable talent, his career was always going to come down to a race between a dropping penny and an axe. Sounds like the penny has grabbed a break.

You certainly can't fault Nuxy's attitude.
Wild Lion Anthony Corrie wants to be role model

LIONS small forward Anthony Corrie - the joker in Brisbane's pack - is no longer wild. He has vowed to re-invent himself and become a role model.
The 23-year-old is determined to re-invent himself and shake off four inconsistent years to become a fixture of the senior side, and a role model to his indigenous brothers.
Visiting Palm Island as part of the Lions' Community Camp in Townsville last week, Corrie said 2008 was all about repaying those who kept his football dreams alive.
He suffered a horrific knee injury against Fremantle in round nine in 2006 that coach Leigh Matthews described as "just about every part of his knee was wrecked".
For one of Brisbane's renowned larrikins, a complete knee reconstruction and gruelling rehabilitation was anything but a laughing matter.
His promising football career hung by a thread but with the support of the Lions and girlfriend Claire Hollier and her family, Corrie fought back to play two senior games at the end of 2007.
With 30-plus touches in two eye-catching appearances, Corrie proved he belonged at the elite level and was elevated to the senior list for 2008.
Corrie said he trained like he had never trained before during the pre-season, driven by his desire to make all the hard work count.
"My number one goal this year is to repay the Lions for the faith they showed in me and for what they have done for me. Their help along the way with the injury was just great," Corrie told The Sunday Mail.
"Like all the boys, I want to play all 22 games this year and play at a consistent level to repay the club and show them they made the right decision to keep me.
"Those two games last year were probably my last chance to impress and prove that I was worthy of playing in the AFL after what happened to my knee."
Corrie said the support of his girlfriend Claire and her family had proven just as invaluable as the backing from Brisbane in reviving his footballing fortunes.
He curbed his partying ways to ensure he gave himself every chance of a long-term career in the AFL.
"I've normally been one of those guys who likes to let his hair down now and then but I was able to really knuckle down thanks to my girlfriend," he said. "She made sure I didn't go out as much and we would go to the movies or something like that instead of going out with the boys.
"Her family also cooked perfect dinners for me that were in line with my diet and I pretty much moulded myself to their couch after I got home from the knee surgery.
"They have been like a second family to me and I can't thank them enough."
Corrie has received an extra boost during Brisbane's pre-season foray in north Queensland by visiting a number of schools and indigenous communities.
He said being a role model for indigenous children had become another source of motivation.
"It's great to go to these schools and communities and see all the kids. They see you as role models and it makes you want to inspire them," he said.
"I just want to get the message across to them that they can't let anybody tell them they can't do something."
Brisbane opens its NAB Cup pre-season campaign against Essendon at Carrara this Saturday night with the Lions starting the 2008 premiership-proper against West Coast in Perth on March 22.
Corrie said the club was determined to qualify for September action for the first time since 2004. "The vibe around the place is incredible, the boys can't wait to get stuck into it."

I normally don't pay too much attention to this type of talk, but Corrie really seems quite genuine in what he says. I'm tempted to find a spot for him in my 22 based on attitude alone.

Would many consider him in the 22?
I had him slated as a probable first 22 starter for my Dreamteam.

Look, he's no certainty to play but he's saying and doing all the right things at the moment and his two games last year were very reassuring. I'd imagine his DT cost would be minimal, so he's potentially a 'great buy'.

out of curiosity, do many of you think his Round 1 performance was good enough to hold others at bay?
I didn't see the game, just listened, so didn't get a brilliant picture of how he was going.

I don't see Corrie as someone under the pump at selection, his ability to carry and break lines is quite rare in our side, he didn't have a great game but he wasn't alone, his best was exhilirating and with a bit of polish he may have really hurt the eagles, he will only contribute more as time goes on.

If a couple of those streaking Corrie runs up the corridor were finished with goals, we'd be singing his praises as a potential gamebreaker.
His 4th quarter performance a few years ago that dragged us over the line in a thriller against Essendon still stands out clearly in my mind.
He's only played 3 senior games since doing his knee... just needs some time to put it all together.
I hope we keep playing him.

As much as any of our players, he suits the style of footy played currently. Worth persisting with for 3 or 4 games.

Yep, spot on. He really should have kicked two, and that would have been a fair chunk of the midfield goals we needed -- quite possibly turned the result.

if corrie, black and lappin kicked those goals, the game would have been different. we showed we can get the shots on goal, and twice corrie had a good run. he is also a decent defender and should be well and truly safe. adcock went down in the first and we played with a 3 man bench for 3 qtrs. bushy also injuried his ankle in the first i think and could miss this week which is why he prob had a quiet one. we did well considering. with corrie back there i think it helps to free up drummond a lil bit too.

The more Corrie plays the better he will get, he is one of our blokes building, we have to remember that these guys have talent in spades but have been literally stuck to a sinking ship for 3 years, i think he now realises that he belongs at AFL level!

he was one player who really showed belief near the end of the game that they could come back and steal it. when he kicked his second his face lit up and you could see he just knew they could do it. really sparked the team. brave effort and was rewarded for it.
on a side note, our attack on the ball was brilliant, our players did everything they could to get the pill, didn't always get rid of it or keep possession, but just to see the commitment from the players in those conditions to throw themselves at the ball was great, and corrie was definitely one of those.

Corrie had the Most inside 50's (10 - 3 more than Jed) 3rd most contested possessions (10, behind Power 11 and Black 15) and the 2nd most clearances (5 - Black with 10). Also had 2 goal assists, 1 behind TJ
He's a vital ingredient in this side.

Still can drift out of the game too easily. If he can become more consistent he will be an extremely damaging player.

he will only improve this with more game time. can sometime lack some confidence and not back himself, but again, he will fix this with more games under the belt. automatic selection til further notice.
