View Full Version : Attention WA supporters!

Just letting you know I am again helping galvanise WA supporters in 2007.
Last season, we got some good turnouts to watch games, and I am keen to do the same thing again this season.
I am happy to entertain all good suggestions for choosing a pub in Perth where we can watch games on Fox (which looks like it will be up and running again), but I would remind everyone that a central venue is best, as it gives people and south and north of the river an option.
Another thing I was looking at doing was organising a weekend jaunt to Melbourne for a group of WA supporters, where we could travel together to attend a North game
I could look into getting into the rooms before and after a game, attend post-match function etc, and organise a travel package with flights and accommodation, etc.
I was looking at Round 7, with the Roos to play Essendon on the Friday night at Telstra. We could also go to the G on Saturday to see Carlton and Collingwood.
I would like to know whether there is any interest in this.
Cheers,
Scotty

I don't know if its a good suggestion but I've watched some games at the Brass Monkey. Its big screen,ok food & comfortable seating.Maybe 1 or 2 others watching so should be easy to book
Close to train station. Not good for parking.

First of all, all positives to scotty for again taking this on. I never made it last year, but i must say i like the Brass Monkey idea, central to both south and north rivers residences. Will see some of you this year for sure, regardless of where we meet.
As for the 2 games here, i tried to get tix to the weagles game last year as a roos member some 10 days out, but all allotments were gone, how early does one need to get into this booking system, anyone had experience here??

I'd advise you to ring the club up or get in touch with the supporters group up to a month out.

I believe Cheers in VicPark was used quite a bit last year yes?
I think that's going to become my regular viewing spot now that I've dumped Poxtel.

For you! Only cos you live in South Geraldton!
Anyhoo, we did use Cheers last year, but a few people complained about the quality of the screen and they stuffed us around one time.
It was a match that clashed with an Eagles game late in the season, so I rang the bar during the week, reminded them we'd been there most weeks and checked we would have access to the big screen.
We got our biggest turnout of the season, but when we got there 4 or 5 Eagles fans were watching their game.
I spoke to the barman, who said too bad, first in, first served, at which point I asked him to contact his management, as we had organised it days earlier.
He refused (at which point I was thinking about the Seinfeld episode where the hire car company doesn't keep his booking) and just said "tough luck". I tried explaining to him the finer points of booking a venue and why I had rung during the week to avoid EXACTLY this scenario, but he was a cretin and wouldn't budge.
So about 20 of us watched it on a screen far smaller than the one I have at home.
As a result, I am reluctant to go there again.
The Windsor used to be okay, and is just off the freeway, but I am not sure what has happened since they renovated? Anyone know?

Never go back to cheers mate. That sort of crap is inexcusable.

Stadium sports bar in Bentley and The Carine are decent options.
Cheers incident described seems very WA view on footy. Eagles/Freo replay >>>>>>>>>>>> any other game live.

UPDATE!
Floreat Athena soccer club have offered to host we Kangaroos fans for any games we wish to watch. It is the same place that hosted the Kangaroos function last season.
They have a big screen, bar, and will even provide finger food, etc.
Apparently, there is a private room that will cater for up to 60 people we can use.
All it needs is for a couple of us to take out soccer club membership, which we are happy to do.
It is central, just off the freeway just north of Perth, plenty of parking and close to public transport.
I think it’s a goer and hope everyone agrees.
Pleased to hear any thoughts.

wish i lived in perth just to able to attend. By this clubs name, it sounds of the Grecian persuasion - are their colours blue and white?

It's the Greek soccer club in Perth.
Hope it's open till 1am, because I'm guessing that will be starting time for our round 5 game against Geelong which is being "replayed" on channel 7.

A few of us are gathering at the Kingsley Tavern on Friday to watch the game, 8.30 it starts.
For those who don't get the emails, below are details of the possible trip to Melbourne for a game.
Hi guys,
Below are the options given by the club’s travel agency for the proposed trip to Melbourne to watch the May 11 clash with Essendon at Telstra Dome on a Friday night.
Collingwood play Carlton on the Saturday, too.
I have spoken to the club about access to the rooms before and possibly after the game and their response has been encouraging.
There is also a function at Telstra Dome after the game and I hope to organise a couple of WA players to come up if we do make the trip over.
Another option would be a Saturday morning visit to Arden Street.
By the way, if you want a rundown of our intra-club practice match today, a good place to start is:
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298570.
I am also trying to find a way we can get to watch the Round 1 game live, but won’t have an answer until next week.
If any of you are interested, a few of us may catch up for beers next Friday to watch the NAB Cup game, if it is on tv!
Package Includes:
Return airfares with Virgin Blue
2 nights accommodation
Entry and Reserved seat at footy
Holiday Inn on Flinders ( 4 star property )
$ 890.00 per person
Grand Hyatt on Collins ( 5 star property )
$ 950.00 per person
Crown Towers ( 5 star property )
$ 1070.00 per person
Cheers,
Scotty
