Melbourne Cricket Ground
11am Friday January 26-Monday January 29
Last week, both teams dug themselves into holes with pathetic totals with the bat in their first innings to lose the first innings points. Centuries to Klinger and Hussey dug the Victorians out of that hole and got them the outright victory in the end, while another pathetic collapse from the Redbacks dug them almost to China and they lost by an innings to a mediocre total inside 2 days.
The Vics lose Denton to injury from that game but regain Hodge from Australian duties, while Darren Pattinson replaces Rob Quiney as 12th man. If Pattinson does somehow get in the side he'll be making his first class debut. To make room for Hodge, Klinger drops down to 5 and Moss to his usual number 7 spot.
The Redbacks haven't won at the G since Pura Milk bought the naming rights, and they only won that thanks to a generous declaration from Shane Warne and 150s to Darren Lehmann and Greg Blewett. Despite the result they take an unchanged 12 into this match, with the unlucky Paul Rofe cut from the 13 that went to Perth, but Dan Cullen has surely had enough chances to stop Bailey from taking his place, and the man most favoured as the next long term Test spinner should come in here. Ben Cameron was the best performer with the bat in Perth, and he returns to the MCG for the first time since making 50 in each innings on debut in 2004 (the rescheduled game after Hookesy's death), before his skipper for this match made 150 for the Vics to get the home side the 2 points before rain washed out the last day. Since that day Cameron averages only 14, while Elliott has an average of 22 since the SACA lost their minds.
Victoria XII: Lloyd Mash, Nick Jewell, *Brad Hodge, David Hussey, Michael Klinger, Andrew McDonald, Jon Moss, +Adam Crosthwaite, Shane Harwood, Bryce McGain, Mick Lewis, Darren Pattinson (FC debut)

Harwood, Lewis, McGain? Meh, play Pattinson ahead of McGain hopefully, we dont need a spinner here
Would love a repeat of the last time the 2 sides met here when I go down tomorrow, that was a great day, roll the redbacks cheaply then pile on the runs with even Warney and Harvs making runs all supported by a superb double century from the great one :thumbsu:

Surely the Vics won't drop this game, especially with Hodge back in the side to help strengthen up the top order.
Tait Taits will win this game.

Good to see different blokes getting a go for SA, would be nice to see Plant and Jason Borgas show something, hopefully a bit more than last week. Also good to see Ben Cameron back. Any of the bowlers (Bailey?) would be very stiff to miss out considering how many batsmen have gone through the side of late. Can't see SA making enough runs to win, but stranger things have happened.
For the Vics McGain would be stiff to miss out after 6 wickets last game, Pattinson about the 7th paceman after injuries but has been in good form for Dandenong. Mash needs a big score, struggled to crack the ton again this season. Would be nice to see Klinger make another big score and earn himself a spot in the side.

Not too surprised by the side named. McGain bowled well in Sydney, but will have less assistance from the pitch this time around and won't do as well. But you can't drop a bloke after taking 6 wickets, so he was always going to get a game.
Moss and Mash deserve to be dropped, but there is no one really pushing for selection, so they keep their spots by default.
It honestly would not surprise me to see us get complacent and drop this one. Although a win here would show that we actually are the real deal, so it is an interesting match coming up.

Interesting that we have dropped Moss and brought in a bowler. It certainly weakens our batting line-up on paper, but then again Mossy hadn't been making any runs anyway so I suppose Patto is a good chance of eclipsing Moss' performances batting at 11.
Last chance Mashy, I hope you realise it.
And good to see Bailey playing too, I hope he does well. Australia needs him to.

Agree. Some might say the ground staff should produce wickets that are more conducive to spin so that the selectors can accomadate 2 spinners in the side more easily. But then again you also have 2 excellent pace bowlers in Tait and Gillespie who need some assistance from the pitch as well.
