Michael Jordan. Absolute legend. The game of basketball is just not the same without him. There will never be anyone close to be as good as Michael. There will be plenty more "great" players like LeBron, Wade, Kobe, but they will never be on the level that Michael was.
As much as I still love basketball, I don't love it as much as I did when Michael played, and I suspect I'm not the only one. We all watch basketball because of Michael, we all wanted to witness his greatness. Anyone who saw him play only once, will still feel honored that they got to see him play. Even at 40 years of age, Michael was still the best player in the world. He may not of been the Michael we knew from his Chicago days, but he found other ways to beat you, and that makes him the greatest basketball player that ever and will ever live.

At 40 Jordan was nowhere near the best player in the world.
Basketball had a bad period during his second retirement though, mainly because the guys who were going to replace him as the best and most exciting players (Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway) absolutely destroyed their bodies with injury leaving a gaping hole in the sport of basketball.
but the sport is well and truly back on track now, and the next decade promises to be one of the best ever - there are some real stars emerging, and most of them are very young - basketball is heading into another renaissance, I guarantee it.

Come on Rick. When Jordan was 40, Kobe was considered the best player, and Jordan absolutely schooled him.
At 40, Jordan was still the best. End of story.

He's 43 right now, you do know that don't you? You're saying that 3 years ago Jordan was the best player in the league. . .
When he was playing for the Wizards he was nowhere near even being top 10 in the league, let alone the best. He could still score a bit, but he was nothing on defense and had lost nearly all his explosiveness.
But the fact you think at 40n he was the best in the league (clearly, you even said) - means that I now feel even more comfortable about arguing against you as to why Melo is better than LeBron.
