NEW South Wales batsman Phil Jaques blazed a triple-century in Sydney grade cricket yesterday, posting the second highest score in the competition's history.

Jaques' 321 for Sutherland against Norths was just 14 runs short of the record 335 posted by the legendary Victor Trumper for Paddington in 1902-1903.

Jaques struggled early in the season for Sutherland, scoring just 116 runs before Christmas at an average of 16.57. Since the New Year, he has bagged 658 runs at 219.33.

Jaques, who has played two Tests and four limited overs internationals for Australia, has also been among the runs for the Blues. Last week, he slammed 192 against Tasmania at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Well, I think he's found his mojo again.

The only way he will get into the Aussie team is to get big scores in NSW colours, not meaningless grade cricket.

I didnt know he played 4 ODI's. I thought it was only one, when he made 94 against South Africa.

Jeez, he banged 192 against Tassie a week ago.

You're right, grade scores don't count for much, but I'd have thought Sydney Grade was the strongest grade comp in the country.

The good form of Jaques came about a month too late. If had been batting this way before the tri-series started, he may have found himself opening the batting for Australian in the ODI's ...... and the World Cup.

Wouldn't he now have to start converting this form into domestic cricket for NSW? Talk about going backwards this summer.

I don't care if it was achieved in Sydney Grade, 321 in a day is still an absolutely amazing achievement. :thumbsu:
