View Full Version : Your username
Thrawn
13th February 2007, 03:35
Well... some of yours are as obvious as ODNs mod stick, but where did you get your username from? What inspired you to use it?
For those who have read Heir to the Empire you would know where mine comes from. Those who are offering blank expressions, my username is a character from a Star Wars novel. Haha yeah it's a bit nerdy, but then again I'm a Star Wars fan. Thrawn is basically the main bad character, you would call him an evil genius (although he wasn't really evil, just was trying to crush an illegitimate government - damn rebels). A strategic mastermind whereby he would study art to know the tactics of an entire species, I really enjoyed his character and his calm attitude so I guess it stuck with me! Perhaps the best character outside the movies.
Though I have to admit beforehand I was going to choose something more "Carltony" but that was too mainstream so I chose something more unique. Having missed chunks of last year, I've noticed a lot of new usernames so I think this thread is apt. ;)

My username doesn't really have any kind of story behind it, but i guess it does involve some sort of involuntary time travel of which i am still unaware of. The name is just something that caught my eye so i've been using it for probably 10? years now, perhaps longer.
The funny thing behind me picking this name is the my favourite band ended up having the same name, and i'd only ever heard of them a couple of years after selecting the name. They're awesome. Plus the name has a great ring to it i feel so its a win on both accounts.

Gordon Smith will forever be remembered for his miss in the 1983 FA Cup Final at Wembley. With just a minute to go in extra time Gordon lined up his shot from 12 yards, the commentator excitedly shouted: 'And Smith must score ...' and it was a moment which made Smith an all-time legend in the game. But not because he scored, but because he missed an open goal. What many people don't remember, however, is that Gordon Smith did score the first goal for Brighton in that Cup Final against the mighty Manchester United. It would have been one of the biggest giant-killing results in football and in his autobiography, Gordon Smith talks candidly about the effect that fateful miss has had on his life and how he has never been allowed to live it down.
I'm a Brighton supporter and the catch cry is famous throughout F.A Cup folklore.

You just need to change your username if it's nerdy and you want a football one. ;)
I chose the original because I didn't give it much thought and I'm a ******** just like a character in this film. ;)

I took my current username from this article In Like Flint (http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=305197) because I wanted a footy name.
But I'm going to claim I stole it from this fill-em. In Like Flint (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Like_Flint)
It's all much of a muchness, but I wish I had taken the username Whitnall'snumberonefan.

Well, when I started on BF all these years ago now, I wasn't very imaginative, and still aren't to be honest.
I'm a huge Carlton fan, so therefore HugeBluesFan was born.
However, I have been toying with the idea of a change, and I kinda like the idea of taking an older players name as my username. The one I have been thinking about is AlexMarcou, as he was one of my first favourite Carlton players.
I guess the other one I have been thinking about is FraserMurphy, whose name and number was on the back of my duffle coat for quite a few years.
What do you guys think?
Should I keep HBF, or make a change?

Jeremias is my nickname in Spanish, which i got as a result of founding a school band which plays percussion and south american music etc. It's sort of stuck now and to some it's my nickname.

Mine is not taken from the legendary australian wicketkeeper, but a mate once nicknamed me Happy Gilmore based on one particular dummy spit on the golf course where i picked up my entire golf bag and threw it as far down the fairway as i could. I ended up losing my 3-iron. From there it was shortened to Gilly........unfortunately gilly was taken on BF so i simply added my year of birth (we incidentally won the GF that year too :thumbsu: :D )

Tell me about it! Remember the Wizard Cup Grand Final? MAN IT WAS HOT INSIDE THE DOME THAT NIGHT!!!!
Well, I had cricket today, it was near on 40 degrees for the spectators, I have no doubts for the fielders (luckily it was the opposition) it was well above 40 degrees.
We were chasing 257 for victory (resuming at 2-30), we lost 4 wickets for 30 runs and were sitting at 6-61, not looking very good... Our #6 made a century, #7 a 20, #8 made about 15, I made 20* batting at #9 :D and we called the game off at 9-258, we got there in the end :thumbsu:
We are guaranteed top of the ladder now, last game before finals next week, but tomorrow, we have a One Day Grand Final, against the same side we chased down runs against today, tomorrow is a home game, and it's going to be just as hot! Hopefully they are very tired and they don't play very well!
I am now averaging a very impressive 33.5 with the bat and 22 with the ball! :D

Thanks Muji, didn't help today though, we got hammered in The One Day Grand Final, I bowled 6 overs, took 1 for 50, and made 2*
We were chasing 238, and bowled out for 179... We were shocking in the field, and our top order failed again, besides our captain, who played for the club we lost to last season.
