What on earth is going on with that new(ish) building near the casino, Brisbane Square?

I know it has been around for a little while, and i see it most days, but i still can't get over how ugly it looks. It is the sort of building you would expect to see in a childcare facility. One big shoe box lopsidedly placed on top of a smaller shoe box. It dominates the Brisbane sky-line, and sticks out like a sore thumb.

I would like to see it demolished, and construction to start all over.

I'm not 100% positive, but I do believe its the new Brisbane City Council office centre

Walk past it every day, I actually like most of it, but the ground level coloured box stuff just doesn’t work at all.

I really love a lot of modern architecture, but it is so obviously trying to be way too clever.

The library inside is fantastic.

I don't mind the design as such, just that it is totally out of keeping with the rest of the George St precinct. Dogs balls don't stick out this far. Maybe the proposed redevelopment of the North Bank will make the look more consistent with its surrounds.

One building I do love is the new Gallery of Modern Art. It is a brilliant addition to South Bank.

Thanks Warwick, it's my first look at it...i remember the construction going on (forever) but left before it was finished.

Just reminds me of that bloody atrocious thing they put over the shops at Bardon (where the pasta place is). Looks like they just put a half finished shed roof on top of the building. Not the biggest or greatest eyesore by any stretch but just always thought how terrible it looked when driving past.

I like the tower itself, but I agree with weevil that the coloured blocks at the bottom were a poor choice. Far too garish - more subtle greens and blues and browns would be far more fitting. Those colours right next to the Casino are just too jarring.
