Just interested in your thoughts as to who will line up against the Blues next weekend. I would take a fairly youth oriented approach but with a mix of senior players in the side.

My team:
B: D. Fletcher M. Michael H. Slattery
HB: N. Lovett-Murray K. Bradley R. Cole
C: A. McPhee M. Johnson J. Winderlich
HF: A. Lovett C. Johns C. Dempsey
F: P. Ryder M. Lloyd A. Davey
Foll: J. Laycock C. Heffernan A. Monfries
Inter: L. Jetta S. Gumbleton J. Neagle T. Hislop B. Houli S. Lonergan

I picked senior guys who on the basis of who's fit that didn't play against the All-Stars and the one's who have something to prove or need to practice structure coming into the H&A season (e.g Michael and Fletcher). I also put the guys that played for the All-Stars in so they can get match practice with Essendon. As for the young guys, picked most of them because I think any one of them could provide something big for us in 2007.

Dont think Gumby will be playing yet. Nursing an injury I think. Possibly Laycock also may miss.

imo Laycock will play, he only missed the Darwin match because his partner was due to give birth iirc.

Hirdy will play in the NAB cup in my opinion. he played in darwin so i wouldn't see why the wouldn't play him. he would want to get his fitness up and it is important that he has confidence in his own body. expect him to play between 50-75% of the match.

i take it dyson is injured?.. i would have him in the team before the new draftees if fit - its a big year for him (and window licker) he needs game time to show us whether he could sink or swim..

Yeah it doesn't look like he will be fit so I didn't pick him

Some people think I act like a Capital A at times so might have some merit.

Bolton will be give a chance to prove himself and Bradley will play on the wing. Fletch will be given as much time at CHB as possible before the season starts.

kind of irrevelant to the subject, but this is my dig at the Dons best 07 team..

FB Welsh Michael M Johnson
CHB McPhee Fletcher Lovett-Murray
C Camporeale J Johnson McVeigh
CHF Watson Lucas Johns
FF Lovett Lloyd Monfries
R Hille Hird Stanton

INTER Dyson Laycock Heffernan Bradley

Fletcher at CHB can use his ability to freely flow up the ground a bit more.. nothing will beat that foward line.. nothing stands up to that quality.. intelligent and champion midfield with excellent sweeping wingman.. all in all.. good enough to win a flag..

Ok just to clear a few things up.
Lee wont be playing . He only started running laps today. The injury is coming on ok but he isnt ready.
Gumbleton is fine. He has been back into full training and kicking with his right leg for 4 sessions now. He is a chance to be in the squad.
Campo looks like he will be out until the regular season with his ankle problem. is still in the modifed group.
Dyson has had a week back in full training after spendin a few weeks in the modifed group because of hammy tightness. At this stage i suspect he is behind the likes of Winderlich, Dempsey and Davey for a spot.
Nash spent more time in the modified group than Dyson and has also only been back in full training a week so he is doubtfull.
Laycock will play. No problems with him.
McPhee may have a minor injury. It was reported he picked up a minor shoulder injury in fridays intra club run and he didnt do any contact work today.

For what it is worth the group was split at training today for a while. The rookies, Bendigo listed playes, Nash,Dyson,Jetta,Neagle, Hislop,McPhee and the modified group where down one end doing some drills while the rest where up the other end doing some kick in work and positional set up work. Obviously i dont know for sure but it looked like we had some sort of preliminary squad picked out.

Gumby is now fine. Has been training with no restrictions.
Chook is also ready to play and i suspect he will be playing.

Given the way the playing group split up at training yesterday and Lloyd's comments in todays HS i would say their is a good chance that Jetta,Hislop, and Neagle wont be playing. Davey ,Houli and Gumbleton trained with what we thought looked like the main sqad. If i was going to have a pick i would say Davey would be the one.

I actually think Hislop will get a run this weekend. Certainly has the body mass of a mature footballer. Based on our outing against the NT ALL Stars, Id have to say Lonergan, Houli and Jetta would have to deserve a crack at it first.

Looks like Davey is the only one under consideration. A little disappointing but hopefully it means they are going to give guys like Nash, Lonergan and the like a decent hit out.

A little dissapointing but also fair enough, they've been around longer and haven't had huge goes, I think we'll see some of at least Leroy Jetta (little more than the rest bar Davey) during the H&A season, how much time the rest get all depends on how we travel

Yes he did but he is also behind a number of players in his preperation so far. I suspect Cole and Slattery to be slected in front of him at this stage.

I disagree.

He's fit and he's ready to go. They'll want him in our best 22 and I reckon he will be given every chance to do that.
I think they'll play as close to our best side as possible this week.

I reckon all three will play.

I take it Longy if all 3 play one of them will be running around the midfield depending on match ups?

Thats all fine. I am only going off my observations at training. He has only been out of the modified group for a short time and i dont belive they will be in any rush with him at this stage. He is pretty close and he did ok in the little scratch match they had today but i think they will give him more time.
Who really knows though ,as far as selections go i have been wrong just as often as i have been correct :D

I reckon Nash will play on the wing and Slattery could very well tag Simpson or Murphy.

So if it's 24 then four from that list miss out.

I'm guessing we won't play with three ruckman and Ryder isn't needed forward or back, so he'll be one.

I don't think Houli will play either and I'm hoping the other two are Bolton and Peverill.

Ryder is being trialled at CHB and has impressed...reckon he'll play. JJ was in the modified group at training on Wednesday, so might be in doubt. Lucas was speaking to the doc at training and missed most of the session as well...came back late and did the last set of drills though. Hird is no certainty to play either. MJ is available, but has only just recently returned to full contact training. McPhee has a very minor shoulder (courtesy of Tommy Hislop) and is being extra cautious - in other words, he'd play if it was the season proper. Laycock missed the last training session due to new baby commitments, so good to see he is injury free for a change.

Longy413
22 Feb 2007, 23:28
Yeah you're right, he could play and he has been played at CHB, but he's also played at FF and in the ruck. The CHB thing could just be an education process rather than an indicator as to his future position.

I think working out our backline structure and forward structure will be high proirity, which leans me to think Fletch and MM will take the key defensive posts. I think the more exposure those two have playing together the better.

JJ and Lucas should be right.
