Just downloaded all of their two albums, and i must say, that i reckon these guys sing the greatest load of trash ever.
Really pisses me off when i see people like that who just trash around on their guitars belt the crap out of the drums and just yell into a microphone make it this far in music.
My mates band, called Stoic, are a thousand times better than SOAD, and hopefully one day that is recognized i hope, cause they deserve it, and i'm sure there are thousands of other bands or guitarists who have tons more talent than these guys, and don't get the credit that they deserve.
What is with these guys?? Why do people like them??

I liked Chop Suey...its catchy but the rest of there **** is just that...****.

And it just goes to show that most people will enjoy and continue to be fed whatever is in the top 40/top 10. I wouldnt rate Chop Suey in the top 6 or 7 songs on that album....yet people only consider Chop Suey as the best because all the stupid bloody teenies went and bought the single

Until then, i'll keep telling myself not to be too harsh, as i'll be debating the artistic talents of a fantastic band with somebody who likes Live - the most overrated, talentless, egotistical, unoriginal, and boring band of the past 10 years.
SOAD have more to say in their first song on Toxicity than Live have had to say in 5 albums.

I've heard some of their old stuff, not much of it though, and its not too bad.
One of the songs that i reeally do like is called Spiders, anyone else know it?

Well said Macca.
SOAD have a unique sound that no other bands copy. When everyone else wants a Korn, Limp bizkit sound, bands like SOAD release Toxicity and you are reminded that not everyone needs to be like that.

Saw 'em live, and they are so intense and just, well, f*cking awesome.
Chop Suey is a great song, but it's by no means their best.

I always thought SOAD had a reasonably original and ever changing guitar sound. Not many other bands sound like SOAD in that aspect

Ive listened to both SOAD cds hundreds of times and i cant say Serj simply 'yells into a microphone'. Maybe if you actually listened to those songs youd figure that out.

Doubt it...somehow i dont think a band that "mainly does covers" and has "maybe half a dozen original songs" deserves to be recognised at this stage....and it is very very very doubtful that they are "a thousand times better" than a band that is selling hundreds of thousands of cds worldwide.

Of course there is...I bet there is hundreds of bands/groups/DJs out there who only play in their garage who could well be the best in the world at what they do if they ever decided they want to be noticed

The fact you love Metallicas new stuff, that S&M is your favourite metallica cd and that you love Live shows that you have no right to question how people can like them.

If i was a teenybopper my CD collection would be filled with Britney Spears, N'Sync and the Backstreet Boys. I knew you would like them though, there loud, they scream alot and they kill there guitars....just your kind of music.

Again not at all. That doesnt make you a teenybopper. Its the fact you reckon Chop Suey is a catchy great song, yet the rest are crap....which leads me to believe either:
a) youve only ever heard Chop Suey
b) you only like what is commercially popular
Listen to Forest or Aerials or Toxicity or Suggestions and tell me they arent more catchy than Chop Suey.
I knew you would like them though, there loud, they scream alot and they kill there guitars....just your kind of music.

1) They dont scream a lot...in fact they scream very rarely
2) They are loud...most bands are
3) They do NOT kill their guitars...which again leads me to believe youve heard maybe two or three SOAD songs.
Maybe you should listen to more than 2 songs before you pass a WRONGFUL (ie. they scream a lot) judgement on a band.

I would have thought that Daron Malakian would have been one of the more adept guitarists in the metal genre.
Anyways Systems would have to be one of my faves included with Dry Kill Logic, Mudvayne, Taproot and Deftones, closely followed by Tool.
You've got a great taste in music Macca.

NOt at all. You are quite wrong (lol ironic). What gets up my nerves is when someone says they hate a band for being crap etc when theyve only heard one song!!! For example about 10 months ago before their was a music board...i told jod about incubus and he said he doesnt like thrashy screamy metal bands...now incubus are furthest thing from thrashy and screamy...so how can someone say that when theyve never heard their music. I hate when people have a go at bands when they havent even heard them....like jod when he says SOAD kil their guitars and scream a lot....which is also far from the truth.

I couldnt care less if Jod likes one song from a band...but when he goes round having a go at my favourite bands, and gets his information wrong, arent i allowed to defend that band and correct him??

Mudvayne are one of my favourite bands (obviously)...Dry Kill Logics cd is absolutly awesome, its really suprisingly good. When i bought it i wasnt expecting it to be as good as what it was, but i reckon it was 2nd best metal cd of 2001. Taproot are another favourite of mine, Gift is a great cd. Tool i dont like. Deftones are ok...i cant get into White Pony at all tho..i just cant get into it.
A band you might like to check out are Stereo Mud!! I reckon theyd be your style. Adema is another!

Thanks Meg...he's always on my case about something....i just like music that appeals to me, i couldnt care less if its popular, teenybopper, or if nobody has ever heard of them (which according to Macca is good music)

LOL...your a teenybopper as much as me...you like all the popular bands, SOAD, Incubus, Mudvayne etc etc...
The problem i have with Incubus is this...there songs are what we (my friends and I) call flatliners. They have no interesting bits at all, it starts it goes it finishes ______________________ you get it. At least Creed who i agree are pop rock for the masses have good catchy songs.
Anyway Creed arent even in my top bands...my fave bands are and write this down Macca so you can finally stop thinking i like Sum41 and the Mavis?? Jebediah, Garbage, Marcy Playground, Nirvana, Silverchair, SFK and many others....
Oh and i hope that the i love this band when they have only heard 1 song wasnt directed at me....

The difference is ive been a fan of Incubus and SOAD for 3-4 years...i didnt jump on the bandwagon with Drive and Chop Suey like many many other people did

Well thats a matter of opinion...but all their hit songs sound the same as well.

Sorry Jod but I'm going to have to back Macca up here. These bands too have been favourites of mine years before years before any mainstream music followers had even heard of them. Phil Anselmo had it right when he said that thier songs didn't belong on the radio or MTV, that they should only be heard in peoples cars and in thier living rooms. The problem with mainstream music followers is that they will drop a band as quick as they picked them up once that band is considered not "popular" anymore, whereas that bands true hardcore following will stay loyal to them forever.
I'll have to check those two dands out Macca, have you heard Glassjaw, VOD, Drowning Pool and Cold just to name a few.

I bet Mudvayne have a bigger fan base than Jebs...no i didnt go to BDO...way to pricey, really wanted to go though to see Garbage. But i saw the Jebs for free down in Wanneroo around the same time as BDO to make up for it :D
