OK, Ive been a little slow to start this off, but its NAB CUP Final time & the H&A season is only a few weeks awat :thumbsu:

Up to now Lapinski has been a little quiet in the 3 NAB prelim games but the last appearance against North he certainly lifted in tempo & output.
That said he has been used off the bench,

The positives is that when in play Matty has been a very cool head in deision making & his disposal has been generally terrific as usual - not to forget very creative.
His goal in the first game against the bombers slotting it through from 40 on a tight angle was "vintage".

Matthew Lappin (born February 17, 1976) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Debuting with the St Kilda Football Club in 1994, Lappin was known as a solid running half-back flanker. After five seasons with the Saints (including the 1997 Grand Final), he moved to Carlton where he established himself in a variety of roles - initially as a goalsneak, but more recently as a sweeping half-back, or linkman, rotated sometimes through the midfield.

Matthew Lappin is easily recognised on the field with his lightly built frame, for which he has attracted the nickname "Skinny," and well-cut long hair. He is a great mark, regularly outmarking players much bigger than him such as Fraser Gehrig and Barry Hall.

Lappin took the Mark of the Year in 1999, with a specky on the goal-line in Carlton's round one game against [[Essendon]. He has represented Australia in the International Rules series in three seasons, and is noted for kicking the round ball better than most of his teammates.

In 2004 he won All-Australian selection and was consistently among Carlton's best players, but in 2005 he didn't have a great year for the Blues, which led to him considering walking out on the club. In 2006, after a particularly poor game against the Western Bulldogs coloured by some soft efforts, Lappin was dropped to the Northern Bullants, playing two games there and improving his intensity. He averaged 29 disposals and 3.5 tackles in the four games after his return.

The experienced utility was not in career-best form in 2005, but played all 22 games and was selected in the Australian team against Ireland in the International Rules Series. Finished sixth in the best and fairest and averaged 16 disposals a game, playing a variety of attacking and defensive roles. Has signed a new contract which keeps him at Carlton until the end of 2007 and is still a very important player.

Lappin is very lucky Grigg busted his collarbone or he would have been dropped.

That's harsh, he's been decent in the last three weeks after a quiet start to the season.

Matty has been pretty consistent up until today.
Providing good experience, leadership & nous....... he has played mostly off the bench, pinch hitting up forward & down back.

Today he was sensational.
It shows where we are as a side in terms of development that a guy of his quality can bob up under the radar and set us up for the win.
We have many quality & dangerous options up forward, this is why if Matt keeps up this form he should definitely go around again next year.
We need a balalnce of opportunity for the kids, but also some wise heads to ensure we get over the line as we develop what will become an awesome football side to watch.

Good onya Lappo, great game & keep up what has been a pretty consistant season.

Another solid game, no goals........ but set up a few & with 19 disposals & 8 marks Matty again presented well up forward.
