This thread is to discuss Bret Thornton.
It will be used throughout the season for everyone, and will be the home for his buddy poster.

T-Bird taking the 3rd forward = a class above. Plus you know he is still the go to man if Waite or Setanta are getting beaten. How dynamic is the backline looking now?

Great game by T-Bird last night...Rebounded well all night!
Reads the play really well and uses his skills on both sides of the body extremely well...
Looks so much more at ease now he has some support (Waite and Satanta)
Will have a great year IMO...

So glad he is still with us.
our backline looks the best it has in years, and it's wonderful being able to have Thornton as a floater, being able to take the 3rd forward, and play his own game like he did last night.

Fantastic pre season by T-Bird, couldnt have wanted it to go any smoother...
Great disposal for a big bloke either foot.
Reads the play well (as third tall defender)
Links up and gives us good run off HBF.
Matches up well on small forwards (gives us flexability)
Also plays well as loose man dropping back to help out Setanta (would like to see more of this)
From what ive seen so far he is going to have a ripper this year!
Few observations so far this pre season, looking forward to my first real report after we slap the Tigers!!!

Shut Lucas out of the game in the second half...(Should have started on him to be honest)
Didnt give us much drive (Scotto did that well) but solid game by T-Bird

Gave his all as per usual but he's still gets exposed on occasion and looks like an undersized defender.
14 disposals - 10 kicks, 2 marks - one contested, 2 inside 50, 3 spoils, 2 FA, 1 clearance.

Good game against St Kilda. Good to watch.

He has been one of most consistent this year I think... That probably doesn't say alot, but he gives everything everyweek.
Go T-Bird.

He has certainly proven his commitment to the team. Some had called it into question after trade week.

There was a passage of play fri nite right in front of me where I saw Thornton turn & run to Simmo's man demanding Simmo go pick up his player. Simmo turned & ran to pick the opponent (cant recall who exactly) had a look at the height difference between them and realised 'shit no this aint gonna work'. Next thing you know the opponent leads, takes a mark in front. Lines up and kicks a goal.
Thornton IS the most experienced defender in our side, but what the hell was doing putting Simmo in that situation?
REALLY needs to toughen up mentally, very weak.

Thornton showed up in suit and tie at the Elsternwick Hotel an hour after the Coll game finnished to have a punt.
No limp.splints, bandages or band-aids......walked around like there was nothing wrong with him.....expect him back next week
