This thread is to discuss Aisake O'hAilpin.
It will be used throughout the season for everyone, and will be the home for his buddy poster.

Any news on Aisake?
Would be superb if he could emulate his brother.

Aisake was supsended for two games at the start of the season, and is now playing this afternoon for the Bullants. Has been named on the interchange.

Where's his buddy? how is Aisake travelling and can we expect to see him elevated by year's end? :) I hope so - imagine Setanta and Aisake - two massive monsters, a bit of aggression and a hell of a lot of athleticism causing havock for opposition forwards... :)
Monsters!

I didn't expect otherwise.
We can't expect him to step up immediately.
He needs a hell of a lot of time.

Boy he looked good on the weekend.
His ruckwork still needs some work, but he is getting there.
He is superb around the ground, he does some things he really shouldn't be able to do for a player of his size :D. His skills are actually pretty good.
Would love to see him get promoted to the senior list and debut for the Blues in the coming weeks.

I hear he is suposed to be a lot better than his brother but may take a while yet to fully adjust.

What's his pace and agility compared to Buddy Franklin? They may be future opponents.

****ing oath, injury permitting.
Needs to be promoted to senior list next year as he has spent the full three years on the list as an international rookie.

Was about to be promoted around round 12 - 13 for his debut, but broke down with OP.
Swann confirmed he would be elevated late in the year, and said he will be senior listed next season.
Has had surgery, and injury permitting, the league will see the more athletic version of Setanta (scary eh?) next season.........with Hampson looking O.K. (albeit in his two games) and Kreuzer likely to be picked up, watch out for him playing CHB instead of ruck IMO.

You reckon? Hasn't he been trained mostly as a ruckman? I would imagine Aisake getting more rucking opportunities next year than Kreuser anyway.
Still if he was to be CHB it releases Waite into forward line and Setanta And Aisake as the backline spine looks scary.

Yeah, wasn't thinking so much of next year as the years to follow.
1. Cloke
2/3. Aisake/Hampson
4. Kreuzer
2009
1. Hampson
2. Kreuzer
3. Cloke
NO room for a 4th, hence the CHB comment. Wait and see I guess.

Kruezer's most AFL ready position will be Center Half Foward think Riewoldt without the amazing pack crashing, Or maybe more accuare think Kozi. So I dare say there will be oppertunity for Aisake to ruck for you guys. Aisake Judd Fev Stevo Murph Fev Kruezer Waite you guys will be a massive improver next year.

Considering that we've needed to play our last few draft picks i'd like to see Kruezer only played if there is a need for him or if he has been playing well in the reserves.
Not simply playing him because he is number 1. Reward competition in the team, if Ackland isn't up too standard he will be bumped by Kruezer, same with all the others in the team

Very good, barring injury.
He was ready for senior football and would have made his debut late last season (about round 12 or 13), but he has had a recurrence of osteiitis pubis and has since had sugery. Currently he is in the rehab group, but most are tipping he will partner Cloke as the opening round ruck combo, with Kreuzer playing forward.
Hopefully he is fit for the NAB cup and can show everyone what he can do.

From what I read of the training reports he may well be.
In terms of development I have Hampson just a little behind, but he sounds like he is making up for lost time.
He is the fastest at the club!! OMG!!!
His tap work is improving as has his strength.
Aisake may always battle with the OP (hope not but he has for two years now).
Our young ruck depth is second to none in the comp IMO.:thumbsu:

I assume by 'he' you mean Aisake?
The thought is that once he learns that game a bit better he may well make a CHB.......but he has a LONG way to go.
He is being taught ruck with the Ants and at training, but may well move into a KPP.
His brother showed last year that he can compete physically, but often he would get turned by a forward, or go to a contest leaving his man when maybe he should stay back.
Good forwards will exploit them now, average ones will find their athleticism too much to handle before too long. Setanta is already beating much more heavily fancied opponents and he's only played about 30 games.
I can see in 2-3 years time though Setanta at FB, Aisake at CHB, Hampson and Kreuzer in the ruck, switching up forward.
The good thing is they are all fast athletic types that will prove difficult to match up on, and can rotate through the ruck if needs be........opposition rucks will be running very hard to keep up.:thumbsu:

I worry that if Aisake cant establish himself to some extent (at least stay on the list for a few years) and gets cut from the list that it may have a permanent impact on Satanta and influence his decision to stay.
Having said that, Setanta is a highly motivated individual
Its funny that when both brothers were elevated to the senior list, they both succumbed to OP in the same week and werent able to make their senoir debut upon elevation. Hopefully, the improvement Setanta experienced once permanently elevated is imitated by Aisake!

I knew a few would disagree.
I think this kids special, but he does not mark the ball or read the play up forward as well as waite. Hampson was more damaging for the ants last year than Aisake in the forward 50, imo.
Hampson, Kreuzer rucks. I think he'll settle into a position rather than becoming the bit playin ruckman everyone here thinks he'll become. Waite CHF and the in irish defence.
Lets have another look at it this time next year:thumbsu:

spent a year in Cork city and used to drink at a pub Smilies where the barman were friends of the O'hAilpin's, they were always of the opinion that Aisake would make it with his size (obviously bulked up alot since his hurling days) and freakish ability. So if he can get his skills right could be a player to watch. Watching the hurling abit, I reckon older brother Sean would also have made it if had the chance, fearless leader for the Rebels.

Ah ya that he is Sean Og is really is THE Rebel, completely genuine lad as well. He's only ever got a yellow card once in his whole playing career and that was when he was u12, and as rumours go, it was a pretty harsh one. He has a spotless record (or well had till the CCCC had a stick up their arse and thought it'd be fun to select, randomly pick out 3 Cork lads from a massive brawl..no more then handbags, in the Munster Semi final, he along with 3 other Cork players..and 4 Clare players were suspended wrongfully for a match, THE match against Waterford, the what was supposed to be match of the decade.) He captained Cork to win the final in 2005, his entire speech was in Irish, and he is the rock in our defense, well the Rock is the rock, he's the anchor.
He was in a car crash a good few years ago. They said he could never play again, his knee was pretty much crushed, they said he could never play again yet there he was in 2005 lifting the Liam.
What a ramble..lol!!
No em, apparently Aisake is or could be better then Seanty, when he's not injured that is.
*sigh*, they were always the ones who got away. Only now really have we replaced Seanty up front, well, Pa Cronin a young lad from Bishopstown, he lifts as many heads as Seanty did when he got the ball. That's what I mean when I say replaced.
It's a pity though, you know we don't resent them, we wish them well like, we hope they succeed but the thought of what could have been if Seanty had stayed can be overwhelming at times, looking at what he did in just a year, he went from being Sean Og's little brother to SEANTY, the fame, the success he had after just one season was insane. He was special, and that's saying something because Cork teams are full of fantastic players but he really was a diamond. When he left, it really hurt, he left a trail of broken hearts behind him, but at least we have young Aisake, sure he's turning a few heads at the club, so that softened the blow..but then he left.
Like I said, no one will wish them anything but success and happiness but by God he'll always be the one who got away.
Ramble, ramble, ramble.

Change the title - he's no longer a rookie.
Given his size and mobillity, he should be able to make an impact but lets not rush things.
Big men normally take longer to develop, so one could assume big men from non-AFL backgrounds would take even longer!

Yeah, but if Kreuzer starts to develop as a CHF/ruck rover then it may be Hammer and Zacky with Cloke being left behind.

Aisake looked the goods in the Bullants practice game last weekend, was moving through packs out of defense like a 202cm midfielder, pace to burn for his size, spent some time in the ruck and tap work has improved as well. Needs to learn more about body positioning and balance and assert his body more in the marking contest, but those little nuances of AFL are the ones that will take longer, his development continues nicely :thumbsu:
