He bowled well during the last game.

I would have taken Hauritz to the World Cup to be honest. Form spinner in the Ford Ranger. Hogg has been woeful this year in both forms!

Hogg >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Our next best spinner
Agreed, but I don't see the need for a genuine spinner in one-day cricket, unless they are world-class, or it is a notoriously spinning pitch. What does Hogg offer compared to a few overs from Clarke and Symonds? How many runs fewer Hogg might concede is negated by his (in)ability with the bat. I'd rather have 3-4 part-timers that offer something with the bat.
That said, Hogg has proven himself to be a wicket-taker and match-winner in the past, and I don't mind the bloke.

Isn't he wicketless in the games he has played to date?

I know he did nothing in the CB series, although he wasn't given a fair go.
Just checked his stats and I could have sworn he had had taken a few wickets and won 2-3 MOTM awards in recent times, but I think I'm mistaken. If you take out his 9 wickets against Bangladesh in the 3 ODI series, he really hasn't done much in the last 2 years. Definitely not enough to warrant World Cup selection I'd say. And he hasn't scored 40 or more for over 2 years either.

Seriously, why is McGill simply not considered for ODI

Oh god, you must be joking, Hauritz is the worst spinner to ever play for Australia and arguably the worst player

I hate him as well, but reality is that he has done well this year. Hogg hasn't.

Hogg would be in serious trouble if we had a decent spinner. Its sad when Hauritz is probably the no.2 spinner in ODI Cricket in this country.
If Cam White was to learn to bowl then he would be a shoe-in in the ODI Game but ponting refuses to bowl him!

I agree with this part of your post. Why play a spinner for the sake of playing a spinner. It seems in ODI cricket at the moment, unless the spinner is very good at a minimum, he is going to bleed runs

Would we really gain much from having another fast bowler though given Hogg's economy rate isnt too bad compared to our quicks of late

Very short term memory, he's out of form but so are most of the other bowlers and his lack of oppurtunities certainly haven't helped but with a career average of under 30 and over 100 wickets to his name you can't write him off especially as the next two best leggies are around 20 and 36 (Cullen Bailey and Stuey) and the off spinners haven't had enough experience at the top level to come straight into the World Cup. Hogg will play several of the World Cup games but the 4 prong pace attack looks the go so far so it will hard for him to really come out of that form slump.

Truth is they are all out of form but when they fired in the ICC series, there was no need for Hogg
I accept that Hogg is not the only issue here

I'd replace him with a batsmen/all-rounder.
I just wish Cam White could bowl :(

If he's not taking wickets then there's no point in him playing. He's an attacking bowler so he could get hit for a fair few runs. Might as well bowl part timers in Clarke and Hodge.
attacking bowler? i've always seen hogg as a ODI bowler, eg: can be defensive and aggresive.. he has just been unlucky lately and been taken off for no reason really..

People struggle to find Watson adequate and he is leagues above any other all-rounders given Roy's injury.

like Voges? And get hit for 4+ more an over? no thanks! Even if that was extreme, part-timers are much more unreliable and prone to getting spanked.

hogg was ok in the series. just ok, but he could have gone a lot better was a bit unlucky but at least he is a proper spinner unlike the crap taht some of the part timers were bowling

The fact White goes at 7+ an over couldn't have possibly anything to do with it could it?
