Had this discussion at the game last night and there was no consensus.
If you had the choice between having Lonie or Bishop on the list this year, who would you take?

Bish is taller, so better for changing light globes around the club.
Plus he was a good player... once.

Lonie.
This year Lonie without doubt.
At their peak Bishop.
Bishop. My logic being that neither deserve a game, but Choco knows Bishop doesn't deserve games anymore, so if an 'act of god' could swap the two players positions, we'd be spared either appearing in a Port guernsey in 2007.

In our squad, I'd favour Lonie. In our best 22, I wouldn't take either.
The Chaplin, Wakelin, Cornes combination should work well this year. Chappy looks well suited to take the opposition's most dangerous tall forward, while I expect Wakes to take the tallest forward and perhaps be in a position to peel off his man a bit, ala Bassett. Bishop would have had no place in our side this year.
I've made my opinions on Lonie very clear. I have never had any time for players who don't naturally play a physical game of footy and go in and get their own ball. At his best you could forgive Dewy for being a receiving type of player, as he used the footy so well. Lonie has the archetypal neat-looking kick, but his decision making is not as good as Choco led us to believe when he was traded for, and his ability to hit teammates has never been tested in pressure situations (something Dew did well).
I'd prefer to play someone else on his wing.
We all know Lonie is soft, last night I saw some of the softest efforts I have ever seen from a player. You dont expect everyone to be a hard nut but any chance of physical contact and he will avoid it at all costs.

If Carlton can make Gibbs part of their leadership group, I reckon we can afford to give Boak, Stewart and Krakouer runs on the Lonie wing in various weeks this year.

Sorry - thats one vote for Bishop that should have gone to Lonie. I voted before I read the whole question - ie the "this year" clause.

Well done last night on the win too btw, it was an enthralling game all the way.

Looking at the run we generated last night, I reckon Stewart could be a real menace on a wing in that side. From what I've seen at training, he really motors, and he's tall whcih toughens the match up. Maybe a bit light at this stage, but he's not a bad size.

I agree Lonie was good last night!:eek: Good at leaving a team mate to battle against 2 players whilst he runs to space to await the easy kick. A couple of times it worked in his favour, but majority of the times we lost possesion because of his lack of pressure. He turns a 50/50 contest into a 33/67 one. :thumbsd:

Were you at the game, or did you watch it on TV?
I was sitting near the outer wing, and i can tell you he did this over and over. How else do you think he finds so much space?
Obviously Choco wants him to do this, and if he WAS able to hit a target it might be worth it, but so far, i have not seen him do this too often. IMO Wilbur has a more damaging kick than Lonie.:rolleyes:

Sticking strictly to the criteria I voted Lonie. Comparing them at their best then I would probably go for Bish.

In terms of where the club is right now you have to pick Lonie, to sacrifice the development of players like Chaplin by keeping Bishop would have been wrong (as much as I am a fan of the Bish).
In all of this though I don't see Lonie as a long term player at our club, good for 2007 but beyond???
One notable poster was heard yelling at the game on Friday night 'Break a leg Lonie', so you never know, he may not even make Round 1.
Just a note ........ it wasn't me yelling out such things.
