i was wondering if anyone knew of any where on the internet where you can find out what the charts were (in either US or UK) dating back to somwhere aroudn the 70's.

I've got a book with all No 1s from 63 to 90. You can ask me any specific week (US or UK) and I can tell you. Don't know about the net...

Virgin Megastore in London had a great concept, they had a section that had the chart from 5 10 and 25 years ago and each CD (and vinyl) was there.

You can try the following:

Or just do what I did - punch "top 40 charts 1977" or whatever year you like into Google and go wild.
