It looks like a decent card. Gabriel Gonzaga impressed me with his Jiu jitsu last fight I saw him, but he wont be able to get Mirko down so he'll be no match for Cro Cop.

Elvis - Nice guy, but I reckon he might be past it, and I think Bisping should have a reasonably easy win here. You never know though, if Elvis can get him down and work some submissions, that would be his best shot in stopping the 'count'.

The other fights look interesting too. This one is in the UK.

MMAWeekly.com probably the best ones out there. But none are perfect.

Definately, top10's for the most part make sense, but some placings are just mind boggling.

Forrest Griffin (Pictures), The Ultimate Fighter season one light heavyweight winner, has been forced to withdraw from his bout with Ryoto Machida (Pictures) at UFC 70 with a severe staph infection in his knee, the Las Vegas-based promoter announced Wednesday on its official Web site.

Zuffa is expected to announce a replacement for Griffin, who was scheduled to face Ryoto Machida (Pictures) in Manchester, England on April 21.

Bugger. That really undermines the quality of the card unless they can get a like quality fighter.

yeah, I was looking forward to that match... After Forrests loss to Jardine he'd be hungry for a win, would have been a great fight.

I watched TUF 1 finale again over the weekend, Bonner vs Griffen, such a classic war :)

From Sherdog:

Chuck Liddell (Pictures) will finally get a chance to erase the only un-avenged loss of his stellar mixed martial arts career when he takes a second crack at Quinton Jackson (Pictures) on May 26, Jackson's manager and trainer Juanito Ibarra told Sherdog.com Sunday.

There was speculation that Jackson (26-6-0) had asked for another tune-up fight before wanting to face the UFC light heavyweight champion, however Ibarra indicated the Liddell bout should be officially announced by Tuesday of this week.

In their previous encounter, a PRIDE Grand Prix semifinal bout in November 2003, Jackson stopped Liddell in just over 13 minutes. Liddell (20-3-0) has not tasted defeat since, winning seven in a row, including two wins apiece against Tito Ortiz (Pictures) and Randy Couture (Pictures).

Jackson has had mixed results since defeating Liddell, compiling a 7-3 record (all three losses by KO) including a pair of devastating knockout losses to former PRIDE 205-pound champion Wanderlei Silva (Pictures). "Rampage" made his February UFC debut a success, knocking out Marvin Eastman (Pictures) in the second round.

IMO Jackson isnt ready for this fight, the UFC has rushed it to try protect Chuck who is a major cash cow for them.

In a perfect world, this fight should have been hyped up with at least another fight or two for Jackson. Then a Super Fight could have been made.

Going on Jacksons last performance, I see a big KO for chuck, but Jackson should come in a lot better with a few months more preparation.

An amazing ko. I think this (on top of trigg, diaz, henderson, werdum) adds merit to the thinking that pride was overhyped and did not have the clearly superior fighters as so many used to think they did.

I don't think it'd be wise to assume fedor unbeatable either quite frankly. He's fought a lot of cans in his time. He really needs to come to the ufc now if he wants to validate his reputation as the best fighter on the planet.

Yea, it is looking a bit like that, Pride was always a little weird with their rankings/matchups etc. It was harg to guage sometimes.

What never occured to me was size, Gonzaga was a lot bigger and stronger than Cro Cop, but what got me was the size of Randy interviewing him! He was bigger (harder to tell because he was in a suit, but at least the same size).

In hindsight I guess, but not really because of that fight, I think Randy would have had a much better chance against Mirko than I originally thought. Randy would have struggled with freestyle wrestling type takedowns no doubt, but if he could have closed the distance, I think he would have overpowered him in the clinch and got the greco-roman type takedown at will, which is Randy's real strength. And the hype going into that one would have been off the charts!!!

Randy is correct, Gonzaga will be a hard matchup, because not only does he have a strong wrestling/JJ base, his striking looks pretty solid, much better than most gave him credit for. Should be a good fight.

Fedor has to come accross, he really does. Although Zuffa may decide not to, to keep his hype going in Japan. I dunno. Reports also suggest Zuffa and Fedor are at loggerheads over his contract, in which Fedor signed with pride on a non-exclusive contract. Zuffa demand exclusivity. Who knows what will happen there.

Cro Cop will come back better than ever after that. His defence needs a good touch up then he should be right to go.

I think Randy picked every fight on the card too. Except he had Gonzago winning by submission.

Size is something i definitely considered, but moreso with Sylvia against Fedor. Sylvia is 6 or 7 inches taller than Fedor and obviously the reach is far greater, but hey Randy proved that meant squat. I think i had a point, but just on the wrong person!

WTF is going on?

Over the last few months we've had the following go down to guys who are massive underdogs.

Little Nog
Arona
Sylvia
Gomi
GSP
and now Crocop

Wandi and Huges have been done over (by respectible opposition). It's turning out to be a piss poor time to be a belt holder. Fedor, Chuck and I suppose Henderson left to stand tall in the two big comps. Who will come to the top and challenge for the title of worlds best p4p fighter?

23 Apr 2007, 16:58
Chuck looked fked in that interview where he fell asleep, but i'd be pretty surprised if he wasn't 100% for the rampage fight. Fedor is a funny one, he hasn't fought anyone decent over the last 18 months since CC. Coleman, Hunt, Lindland? Jeez. It's almost laughable that he's still ranked 1. I know i'm repeating myself but he really needs to step to the plate against the UFC guys if he wants to leave no doubt as to his greatness in the HW division.

You know what, he's not that big either, maybe he should drop down to LHW and take on Liddell if he beats rampage?

Agreed with most of the comments made by you guys..

I always thought Gonzaga had a decent chance vs Cro Cop, he's impressed me with his abilities since I've seen him.

As for Pride fighters being overrated/better than UFC, at the time the UFC vs Pride hype was at it's strongest, probably nearly 6 months ago, I think at that stage there was NO DOUBT Pride had it all over the UFC in terms of fighters (bar say the 155/170lb div). And Fedor certainly is not overrated, however I do agree with Deej that he should step up and fight the best (saying that, Mark Hunt is no can). Though, if I want to see Fedor fight, I want to see him in the Pride ring, under Pride MMA rules. Thats a truer test of a fighters skill IMO.

I believe because of the recent Pride toubles and signings of Prides top guys to the UFC, obviously much of the balance has shifted, but also what is muddying the waters is that the Pride guys who have switched to the UFC have had to fight in the UFC domain.

I think that the 'proving ground' favours the UFC guys in these recent matches because of the cage and the rules. Obviously hypothetical now, but if the UFC top guys were put in the Pride ring with stomps and down kicks, I think it would not bode favourably for the UFC guys. Thats just my thoughts anyway.

Anyway, I guess its becoming a moot point now, and any future "Pride vs UFC" fights will be in the UFC in the cage, and therefore under UFC rules, so obviously the dynamics will change. I'd say soon anyway, all the best fighters will be fighting under the UFC banner, including Fedor. Although, I still love UFC, I like the pride rules more :)

It was a shame to see elvis cop a beating too :( He's gotta learn to control someone's posture! He's awesome at JJ, but his body and jiu jitsu style aren't working too well at the top level.
