According to the My Man Thread (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291068), it looks like buddy23 will be one of the posters responsible for looking after the man who's hair seems to get longer every game!

Take it away, buddy23!

Round 1: Brisbane
Thought on a night of poor skills, composure and decision making, my man BG was one of the few who looked okay. Along with a few of the other "elders" Brent might take a couple games to hit top gear, but his skills were good and along with Danny Jacobs managed an okay game I thought. It certainly wasn't a blinder, but I thinkg like Browny and Vanders, BG should get extra credit for not getting reported :)

Sewell claims first Peter Crimmins Medal

News
DANGEROUS midfielder Brad Sewell claimed his first Peter Crimmins Medal after a nail-biting finish in front of a 1300 strong crowd at Crown’s Palladium on Saturday night.

In the count to decide the 2007 Hawthorn club champion, Sewell (173 votes) and eventual runner-up Campbell Brown (172 votes) went into the semi final against the Kangaroos on equal votes.

However, Sewell scored the winning votes after his solid performance to narrowly defeat Brown. 2005 Peter Crimmins Medallist Luke Hodge topped off another consistent year finishing in third position.

After four seasons and 64 games, Sewell’s achievement crowns another sensational year for the 23-year-old, who played every game for the second consecutive season.

Shifted from a small defender’s role to the midfield, Sewell averaged 21 possessions per game – the biggest return coming in round 21 against the Western Bulldogs when he picked up 39.

He laid the most tackles of any Hawk with 104 for the season and had his fair share of clearances. He also managed to curb the influence of a number of the big names in the AFL including Chris Judd, Shannon Grant, Paul Chapman and Adam Goodes.

In other awards, Stephen Gilham was named the Most Improved after stepping up as a key defender and playing every game since his elevation from the rookie list in round 19, 2006. Gilham’s willingness to keep learning and working hard won him the honour.

Sewell also picked up the club’s award for the best player in the finals, while Brent Guerra was rewarded for his hard working year at half-back securing the Most Consistent award.

Xavier Ellis was named the best first year player for his impressive debut season.

In his second year at the club, Ellis made his debut in round one and played a total of 13 games for the season, switching between the wing and half-back.

The contribution of retiring trio Richie Vandenberg, Ben Dixon and Joel Smith was acknowledged during a fitting tribute to the popular players.

Vandenberg was also awarded Best Clubman, an acknowledgment of how his peers regard him.

The Peter Crimmins Medal - an Olympic-sized gold medal depicting a sculptured image of the former Hawthorn champion - was presented to Sewell by Crimmins’ wife Gwen who attended the awards with son Sam and daughter Amber.

Crimmins was vice-captain of the 1971 premiership team and captain for two years from 1974. He fell ill with cancer on the eve of the 1974 finals series, missing September action that year.

However, the ‘little fellow’ made a return from treatment to play at the start of the 1975 season. In round six that year Crimmins had to return for intensive treatment and never played senior football again.

Club awards

Most Improved - Stephen Gilham

Peter Crimmins Medal voting procedure
Votes for the 2007 Peter Crimmins Medal were awarded by the match committee, consisting of senior coach Alastair Clarkson and assistants Todd Viney, Damien Hardwick and Ross Smith after each home-and-away and finals match.

A maximum of 16 votes could be accumulated by a player after the four coaches’ voting cards were submitted using the following grading system:

- three votes to the best player or players

- two votes for a good game

- one vote to players who beat their opponents

On rare occasions a player or players may receive four votes for an exceptional game.

There is no restriction on the number of players who receive votes in a match.

Brent Guerra aka; Goo, Bruno, The Human Cannonball

Born May 29, 1982 at the Barham Hospital

182cm and 89kg.

Games: 135
Goals: 86
Position: Small Defender

Played his junior footy with Koondrook Tigers Football Club in the old Northern and Echuca Football League and then one year with the newly formed Koondrook-Barham River Raiders in the Central Murray Football League.

Graduated to the Bendigo Pioneers Football Club in the TAC Cup. Was runner up in the Pioneers B&F in the 1999 season. Brent also made the TAC Cup team of the year.

Drafted by Port Adelaide with pick 28 in the 1999 National Draft wedged between Cain Ackland and Adam Hunter. He played 65 games and kicked 39 goals. The highlight of his time in Adelaide was playing in 3 successful GF for Central Districts in the SANFL and being a member of the successful Port Adelaide night series win in 2001.

Brent also received a Rising Star nomination in 2001, unfortunately he didn’t win because the judges thought he was 30.

Brent requested to be traded to the Saints to return to his home state and to gain more opportunities. The Power received pick 39 in the 2003 National Draft for Brent which was used on Robert Forster-Knight.

He played 31 games with St Kilda in 04-05 kicking 44 goals. The highlight was Round 9 in 2004 when he kicked 7 goals against West Coast. He also played in St Kilda’s successful pre season cup side in 2004. After a poor 2005 season he was delisted by St Kilda.

Brent was picked up by the Hawks with pick 3 in the 2005 Pre season Draft. Clarkson immediately swung Guerra into the back half where he had played successfully in his time at Glenelg. He has been exceptional for Hawthorn playing the role of a small defender he averaged 18.3 disposals a game in 2006 and 20 disposals a game in 2007.

Brent’s 2007 was fantastic finishing 7th in the PCM and winning the award for the most consistent player. Lets hope he can put together another great season in defence now that he is one of the most experienced players on the list.

I would like to wish Goo all the best for the 2008 season

Brent Guerra Round 1 Performance

11 kicks
10 handpasses
6 marks
1 tackle

Solid contribution from Goo in Round 1, 21 touches and most of them very good he didn't waste to many of those 21. Also did some solid defensive work also highlighted by the effort in the second term when he threw his body at the lose ball which prevented a Demon player swooping and having a shot on goal.

Did a good job on a few of the small forwards the Dees pushed through there. Hopefully more of the same by Goo in Round 2.

Guerra played one of his best games for the Hawks on Sunday against Adelaide.

Seems to have taken over the Luke Hodge role of QB the backline allowing Hodge to move forward or mid.

Guerra's precise kicking is such a feature of his game.

Personally was not a fan of his selection. Felt that St Kilda then Port Adelaide had troubles with him that he wasnt worth the risk. Since he has come over I doubt he has played a game at Box Hill. A wonderful addition to the team.

ps: The Messenger, good stuff :thumbsu: good to read

Guerra out for a month - Sam Edmund

May 19, 2008 12:00am
HAWTHORN defender Brent Guerra could be sidelined for up to a month after tearing his hamstring in Saturday's rousing comeback win against Port Adelaide.

Guerra needed help getting off the field after breaking down during the second quarter in Launceston.

The 25-year-old joins fellow hamstring victim Luke Hodge, who is still a fortnight away from returning.

"It looked like your regular hamstring, so his progress is usually determined somewhere within that first week of the injury. But we'd say three to four weeks," Hawks football manager Mark Evans said.

Resilient Hawks skipper Sam Mitchell (concussion) is expected to play against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

Mitchell was carried off on a stretcher after clashing with Shaun Burgoyne, but returned to play a major role in the victory.

"He bounced back pretty well during the game, which is why he was cleared to come back on," Evans said.

"You could see that he wasn't overly affected in the second half, so we would expect him to be fine."

My man will be put on ice for a few weeks and will be back flying off half back in no time. Laddo and Dew will have the job of kickouts in his absence, I'm sure both will do a great job.

All the best with your recovery mate.

Had a chat with my man at the Box Hill game on Monday. Hammy is coming along well back running and will be doing full training by the end of this week. Will be back in for the Kangaroos game in 2 weeks time. It was the first Hammy he has done in his life so hopefully that's a good sign that it won't be a recurring problem.

Will be a handy man to get back into the side.

Just letting everyone know that it is my mans 150 game vs Brissy this week, a great effort by a short, stocky, bald man. George Costanza will be very proad of your achievements.

He is in career best form and I hope he can carry this form well into the finals and into another 150 games for the Hawks.

Good luck in the big game champ.
