He is quick aswell, the only skill he has to work on is his kicking. I was at training on Thursday and it was great to watch him run down Buddy from behind. This lad has some serious pace for his size.

No need at the moment, were using a two ruck system with Tails and Campbell, and arent risking playing Campbell in defence.

Taylor has been playing good football lately and doesnt warrant ommision. Also with how well our defence has been going, even with the absence of Croad there is no need to bring Renouf in for the backline either.

He will get his chance eventually just not yet. Im more then prepared to let him be in the VFL. There are too many hawk supporters obsessed with continuing to blood youngsters, we need to start building a solid structure of core players both young and old, instead of having a revolving door of ommissions.

This week is in fact the ideal week to include him, what with the indigenous bomber flyers. Height, speed and aerial acrobatics..........."Reniff" or McEntee are backhalf options with genuine flight and speed to combat Ryder and Lovett-Murray(if he plays). Wack Roughy onto Lucas to see if he can repeat his 2005 effort on shutting the bomber down. Goal kicking lessons for our fwds this week displayed by Lloyd and Lucas and Johns.......pls boys take note. It absolutely stuns me how Brereton and JD can stand watching our atrocious conversion attempts, without grabbing our boys by the earlobes and dragging their sorry backsides to goalkicking practice more than once a week, from dawn to dusk, until their feet are droppin off.

I believe that he deserves to play for the seniors in the AFL. Been watching him against williamstown, and is very even, or if not better than Peter Street, who is about 10 cm taller, and has player 50? (not sure) or so games at AFL level.

Don't know where we could slot him though

For the second week in a row Brent Renouf has been named as an emergency for the senior team.

Round 10 v Western Bulldogs

Round 11 v Essendon.

In part I believe as recognition for the good work at Box Hill.

Hawk faces two match ban

4:14 PM Mon 30 June, 2008

HAWTHORN’S Brent Renouf has been offered a two-game sanction with an early plea after being charged with a Level Four striking offence against Adam Selwood.

The Match Review Panel assessed the incident as reckless conduct (two points), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points), totalling seven activation points, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match ban. As he has no existing good or bad record he can make an early plea, reducing the demerit points to 243.75 and a two-match ban.

In other Match Review Panel decisions, Darren Glass, Adam Hunter, Trent Croad, Mark Williams and Lance Franklin have all been charged with engaging in a melee and can all accept $1200 fines with early pleas.

Carlton’s Brendan Fevola has been charged with a third offence for wrestling with Kelvin Moore of Richmond. He can accept a $3000 fine with an early plea.

Young ruckman Brent Renouf takes two-match ban
Bruce Matthews | July 01, 2008 11:15am

YOUNG Hawthorn ruckman Brent Renouf's bid to shore up a senior place has been disrupted by suspension. Renouf must sit out the next two rounds after pleading guilty to striking West Coast defender Adam Selwood with an arm to the head during an attempted shepherd in the third quarter at the MCG on Friday night.

The strike by Renouf, playing only his third AFL game as a replacement for the injured Simon Taylor, was assessed as reckless and high impact.

The offence drew 325 demerit points and a three-match suspension, reduced to two games by pleading guilty.

Renouf, who shared the ruck duties with Robert Campbell against Dean Cox, escaped censure for a clash with Brad Ebert in the second quarter.

The match review panel decided the 20-year-old made contact to Ebert with an open hand in an action considered to be a tackle.

Hawk teammates Lance Franklin, Trent Croad and Mark Williams, along with Eagles Darren Glass and Adam Hunter, all accepted $1200 fines for their part in a second-quarter melee.

And Carlton spearhead Brendan Fevola received a $3000 fine for wrestling Richmond's Kelvin Moore in the third quarter at the MCG on Saturday. It was Fevola's third wrestling conviction.

No action was taken against Port Adelaide forward Daniel Motlop despite the match review panel scrutinising two incidents from the last quarter in Darwin on Saturday night.

The panel decided Motlop made contact to Bulldog Dylan Addison's left shoulder and chest.

It also felt the contact to Dog Daniel Cross's right shoulder and back was not forceful enough to be a reportable offence.

Power forward Danyle Pearce's contact to Bulldog Brad Johnson's face in the last quarter was assessed as an open hand brushing motion.

And Richmond's Jake King and Carlton's Bret Thornton were cleared of wrestling charges.

Eight Hawks re-sign for two more

August 14, 2008 HAWTHORN have signed new deals with eight players, which will keep them at the AFL club for the next two years.

The eight players are Jarryd Roughead, Chance Bateman, Jordan Lewis, Robert Campbell, Mark Williams, Mitch Thorp, Brent Renouf and Jarryd Morton.

Hawks football manager Mark Evans said this week's re-signings were a great boost for the club's future.

"It's a strong message to have eight players who are such a big part of our future quest for premiership success all coming out in the one week and agreeing to terms, it's a great message of solidarity," Evans told the Nine Network's AFL Footy Show.

The Hawks are currently second on the ladder.

Renouf in for Campbell

Brent Renouf is one of five inclusions to the Hawks' squad

HAWTHORN ruckman Robbie Campbell has been ruled out of the clash with the West Coast Eagles on Sunday at Subiaco after withdrawing from training early on Thursday.

Campbell is suffering a respiratory and throat virus and will be replaced by 20-year-old Brent Renouf, who came in for three rounds earlier in the year to cover for Simon Taylor.

“He left the track early, so with the flight to and from Perth and a six day turnaround, we’ve decided that we’ll hold him out of this game,” football manager Mark Evans said.

“These things usually just last a few days and even though we’re not leaving until Saturday, we just think with the turnaround it would be best not to take him and that gives young Brent Renouf another chance to have a crack at AFL football.”

The Hawks will also be without Luke Hodge due to suspension. It’s not the first time this year that the club’s engine room has been undermanned, with injury or suspension ruling out Shane Crawford, Brad Sewell and Jordan Lewis at various times.

“We have had a year like that but I’d have to say that we’ve been a little bit more stable over the last few weeks so it’s a matter of all those guys getting into good form.”

In better news for the Hawks, forward Tim Boyle returned from injury in the reserves last weekend and despite Box Hill suffering a 60-point defeat, he made a solid contribution.

“He had a run at Werribee. It looked like he’s starting to get into a touch. Hopefully he’ll keep progressing this week and put some real pressure back on for senior selection.”

Other Incidents Assessed:

Contact between Hawthorn's Brent Renouf and West Coast's Quinten Lynch from the first quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. Renouf went to push off Lynch in a contest. At the same time, Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell dragged Lynch to the ground. Mitchell's action contributed to the high contact on Lynch. No further action was required.

Hawk Brent Renouf rides his luck
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/spo...-19742,00.html (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,24341434-19742,00.html)

HAWTHORN ruckman Brent Renouf is two wins from a fairytale, but his toughest contest could unfold at the team selection meeting.

The 200cm Queenslander was a surprise selection ahead of Simon Taylor for last week's qualifying final against the Western Bulldogs.
Instead of being overawed by the occasion or his opposition, Renouf emerged from the win with his reputation enhanced.
The second-year ruckman had 10 disposals, four marks and nine hitouts in a competent finals debut.
"I think he'll stay in the mix, and if anything, he'll get better and better," said Craig Crowley, who coached Renouf at the QAFL team the Southport Sharks in 2006.
Renouf, 20, has capitalised on his opportunities this season.
An injury to Taylor opened the door for his debut earlier in the year and he would have played more than six matches but for an injury of his own and a two-match suspension.
He seemed destined to finish the year with Hawthorn's VFL affiliate Box Hill until coach Alastair Clarkson rested Campbell and Taylor ahead of the finals.
Renouf's form since then has been so good Taylor may not get another shot.
Crowley is hardly surprised.
Renouf is the latest tall - Daniel Merrett, Clark Keating, Matthew Kennedy and Sydney's Jesse White are among the others - to emerge from the Surfers Paradise junior production line.
As a teenager he played under Norm Dare in the Southport Sharks' 2005 premiership win, and again under Crowley the following year.
"He's worked really hard to force his way in and you can see by his body he's got himself fit and strong," Crowley said of the beanpole.
"He worked really hard when he was with us. With all the work he did (in 2006) with the under-18s, he was still focused and always wanted more."

Love his aggression will he play this week i think he might just get the nod?:thumbsu:

Campbell ready for ruck battle (http://sportal.com.au/default.aspx/mediaplayer/audio/AFL/campbell-ready-for-ruck-battle-3516)

Hawthorn's number one ruckman Robert Campbell admits he feels sorry for his long-time deputy Simon Taylor, who looks set to the unlucky story of this year's AFL Grand Final.

Taylor, who has played 66 games over the past four seasons for the Hawks including 18 this season, is set to be overlooked for Saturday's premiership decider against Geelong in favour of the younger Brent Renouf for the role as Campbell's ruck partner.

The 26-year-old finds himself in the same position as Geelong's Mark Blake found himself in last year - a regular member of the team who finds himself out of the side at the wrong time of the season.

While Blake - who will definitely partner Brad Ottens in the ruck for the Cats on Saturday - was only left out for the grand final last year, in favour of Steven King, Taylor has found himself on the outer since Round 22.

And Renouf - a 20-year-old who only made his debut in Round 12 this season when Taylor was sidelined for three matches with a badly cut knee - has certainly made the most of his opportunity since being recalled.

In the Hawks' two finals, the agile 200cm giant has provided not only valuable support in the ruck for Campbell but given the Hawks some extra run around the ground as he wracked up 10 possessions, nine hit-outs, four marks and four tackles in the qualifying final win over the Bulldogs and then backed it up with a handy nine possessions, eight hit-outs, three marks and two tackles in Saturday night's 54-point win over St Kilda in the preliminary final.

Campbell, the 26-year-old who has played 101 games since debuting in 2002, says the Hawks are in the fortunate position of having to decide between three good ruckmen for the big job of taking on Ottens and Blake on Saturday.

"We (the ruckmen) are all pretty close and we sympathise and emphasise with each other pretty heavily but that is football," he said of the likelihood of Taylor missing out on a place in Saturday's grand final 22.
"Whoever gets the role on Saturday will have the backing of each other and it's probably a position any team wants to be in at this time of year to have such a good selection of players - not just in the ruck but all over the field - to choose from."

Campbell admitted he was surprised when Taylor was first axed in favour of Renouf but not surprised by the way Renouf has seized his chance in the finals given the way he performed when filling in for the injured Taylor mid-season.
"We didn't think by having Brent in we would drop a level and we knew he would come in and play his part," Campbell said.
Campbell said Renouf's pace and aggression had added much to the Hawks' line-up during the finals.

"He is just a kid, he adds a bit of vibrancy and he hunts the ball and he has got a bit of aggro in him," he said of Renouf, who was drafted at pick 24 in the 2006 national draft.

"He just loves a contest and he loves a bit of the crash and bash."
"And he is great for me because he goes out and runs the opposition ruckmen around a bit."
But Campbell knows that regardless of who partners him on Saturday, the ruck contest against Ottens and Blake will be crucial to the outcome of the game.

"It's very well documented over the past how many years you want to go back that the ruck duels are always pretty critical in grand finals," he said.
"But we love a challenge so let's go."

One Hawks ruck faces grand final dumping

September 21, 2008 - 4:52PM

Hawthorn are bracing to provide one of their ruckmen with the hard-luck selection tale of this year's AFL grand final, just as Geelong big man Mark Blake was unlucky to miss last year's decider.
While Blake and Brad Ottens form a settled ruck pair for the Cats in

Saturday's grand final, the Hawks must decide between playing their proven pair of Robert Campbell and Simon Taylor, or sticking with bolter Brent Renouf.
Taylor missed rounds 12-14 with a gashed leg, but returned to partner Campbell in the closing rounds of the season, until the Hawks sat him out of the round 22 win over Carlton to rest.

That omission allowed Renouf, 20, to grab his chance and he has held his spot ever since, although he had little impact in Saturday night's win over St Kilda in the preliminary final.

Campbell, the one ruckman assured of playing, said the big men formed a tight bond, and that whoever missed out would be unlucky.
"We're very close and very supportive of each other, so whoever gets the role to go out on Saturday has the backing," he said.

"We're pretty close so we sympathise and empathise pretty heavily, but that's football and that's (the grand final) where the team aims to be start of the year.

"At this time of the year we're obviously pretty happy with the number of players we've got to choose from."
If selected, Renouf would play a grand final in just his eighth game, similar to former Hawk Greg Madigan, who earned a premiership medallion in the epic 1989 grand final - against the Cats - in just his sixth senior match.

Indicative of Hawthorn's style, the Queenslander is admired for his no-nonsense attack on contests, which will be pivotal against the reigning premier.
"He adds a bit of vibrancy and he hunts the ball and he's got a bit of aggro in him and he loves a contest," Campbell said.

"He's got a skinhead and he loves a bit of crash and bash."
Regardless of which pairing Hawthorn select, their clash against Ottens and Blake will determine which midfield gets first use of the ball in the stoppages.

That was the case last year when Ottens and Steven King - who replaced Blake for the 2007 grand final only to be traded to St Kilda a few days later - gave the perfect illustration of the physical presence needed in grand finals.
"It's very well-documented over the past however many years you want to go back that the ruck duels have always been pretty critical," Campbell said.

"We love a challenge, so let's go."
Provided stars Luke Hodge (ribs) and Lance Franklin (thumb) play, Hawthorn's other selection poser lays in defence, where Thomas Murphy will be out to prove he has overcome the back problem which cost him his place in the game.

Murphy has played 18 games this season, and took part in every match between round 12 and the qualifying final win over the Western Bulldogs.
But his injury made way for Stephen Gilham's return, after the key defender missed the win over the Bulldogs with a virus.

"Football is a funny game sometimes," Gilham said.
"It was just through misfortune that I missed a couple of weeks ago, and we've got a great side now that has a lot of depth."
