This thread is devoted to the 7 coaches who took part in the WC Cricket draft last month.

In line with comp rules, coaches can nominate, prior to ball 1 of the opening match (WI v Pak) 13th March, their best XI (who are candidates for various double points), and their keeper.

This post will show teams as selected for the pool matches. I've "defaulted" to the first XI drafted, but post any requested changes here. Everyone have a look, i think some coaches will want to tinker a bit.

SCOREBOARD

...................will go here

Here's a refresher on the rules and scoring.

***Rules & Scoring***

1. Top 7 highest Run scorers collect 2 pts per run.
2. 8th-11th highest run scorers get 1 pt per run.
3. Top 5 wicket highest wicket takers get 40 pts per wicket.
4. Any other wicket takers get 20 pts per wicket.
5. Must nominate one player as your wicket keeper.
6. Wicket Keeper also gets 24 pts per catch and per stumping (12 for runouts). All other players get 12 points per catch and per run out.
7. Maximum 2 players can be drafted from any one country per coach.
8. Any coach who drafts a player who gets replaced from country's squad prior to cup commencing, will get the replacement player instead (eg. Stuart Clark for Brett Lee).
9. Finally, there'll be a time limit between picks. If a full day (Midnight to Midnight) passes since the last pick, the delaying coach will automatically get the next highest available ICC ranked player as at start date of draft.

Players 12 and 13:

10. Players 12-13 get 1 point per run, 20 points per wicket, 12 points per catch/run out.
11. Your first eleven picked default as your starting XI - but you can change your starting XI by posting in THIS thread anytime until the first match commences, at which point it remains your starting XI throughout the tournament.

Jeremias

I think we should be able to nominate a captain who will get double points throughout the tournament. What do you think?

My starting XI:

Sachin Tendulkar
Inzamam ul-Haq
Ricky Ponting
Michael Clarke
Marlon Samuels
Shahriar Nafees
Mark Boucher (wk)
John Davison
Steve Tikolo
Mashrafe bin Mortaza
Makhaya Ntini

12th and 13th man:

Stephen Fleming
Anil Kumble
------------
After being disappointing so far, Fleming gets demoted to 12th man.
Marlon Samuels gets promoted, and will bat reasonably in the middle of the order, at number 5. This comes after some very solid scores with both bat and ball from Marlon, and he adds to my already stong all-rounders.

Batting is extremely deep, with everyone up to and including my number 9, Steve Tikolo, capable of scoring well with the bat.

Bowling is less impressive, with Ntini the only strike bowler in the team, the others just a bunch of spinners. I have made a huge gamble with this, but the pitches over there are very unpredictable, and I reckon we might see the ball spin a very long way.

BRING IT ON!

Guessing ill leave my side the same.. but will come back on later and see.

J you have tried this a few times, no captains - it will obviosuly just be everyones first round choice!! which just gives a massive advantage to those who picked first. IE:you! lol

Im not to fussed, because pollock should be pretty good. But cant see how it adds anything to this comp.

Unless i change my mind tonight, think i'll stick with the XI as named.

Styris isn't doing much but i'm sure they'll play him, especially with Fulton injured, and i think these wickets might suit his little dibblydobblys.

Jayawardene is horribly out of form but he'll bat at #3 and is the captain so no danger of being dropped yet.

But all eyes are on that man TAIT!!!!

OK, but this team will be locked in for all 3 group rounds, not just the first 2. Just to be clear. Otherwise we'd all be pre-chopping and changing based on when the good teams play the minnows.

I'd forgotten about Afridi's suspension.

I'd contemplate playing that side if I was NZ, I know it's a batter short, but it allows for both Vettori and Patel to play, who will be very useful on the WI pitches. With their group, you wouldn't imagine they'd be chasing too many runs in their group.

But, I think they'll bat McMillan at 5 and drop Patel for the first game anyway, and see what happens, but either way, I expect Gillespie to play

But either way, I'm sure Gillespie would play.

I'm only going to compile thes scores after the group games are over, as i don't know who the top7/top5 will be for each side yet but here's an update on game 1.

J - Samuels was very good (63 runs) and Inzy chipped in too. Very good start.
NWT - Younis failed and Mahmood didn't play. Inglorious start to campaign.
cfc05 - Umar was ok while Bravo did well. Good start.
DIG. Sarwan 49, Shoaib 62 and Akmal 48 (4 catches) set DIG off to a flyer. On the downside though, Shoaib was not named in XI (grrrrr!!) so miss double points there and Bradshaw didn't play. May not play next game either given how well all the Windies bowled (****it!!).
DC - Gayle failed and Taylor didn't do much. Poor start.
Sublime - Nazir failed but was not a Sublime starter anyway, no big deal.
Kahuna - Chanderpaul, Lara and Yousuf all so-so. Could've been a better start for Kahuna but could've been worse too.

First of about 50 games so we've barely started yet.

2nite - Australia v Scotland. Jon Davidson v Kenya

Reasonably happy with my start.

Very happy with Samuels, especially considering I picked him up very recently and only 2 days ago put him in my first XI. Surprised he didn't bowl, though.

Inzy was solid, would have liked to see him score a few more runs. One catch as well which is a small bonus.

Really looking forward to tonight's matches, we might just see a huge score for me. Clarke and Ponting for the Aussies should do well with the bat, Clarke may surprise with the ball. Davison could score a heap as I expect himto be the best for Canada with both the bat and the ball. And Tikolo may do well leading his team with both the bat and the ball as well.

I think I have more of a right to be angry with Gayle not bowling :p

He is the #2 all rounder in the world, but he wasn't needed, oh well, Hodge and Bracken to fire tonight!

We already discussed this on MSN, you players will only do a lot better than mine if Australia bat first, if not, I have Bracken, and you dont :p and he'll tear through Scotland with Tait, then we wont be chasing more than 65 runs, so Gilchrist and Hayden will get them easily...

Tikolo and Davison will be useless :p

DIG
14th March 2007, 17:18
Neither of you have Tait, who'll take 14 wickets tonight and 700 for the series!!!

With McGrath too my team will be happy to chase tonight, like DC's side.

........although away from this i'd love to see if the Aussies can set 400+

Djibril Cisse
14th March 2007, 21:09
We wont get 400, the pitches are too slow, and in the first 10 overs when the ball is hard, with Scotland only having medium/fast bowlers at the best, the ball wont come off the bat, so, we'll struggle to get 400, but I think that we could set a score of 75 and it would be enough, having said that, if we bat first, 340 looks good

DAY 2

Jeremias - Massive day for Jeremias who must surely be leading so far. Ponting (113) and Tikolo (136) were huge contributors. On the downside, Clarke (15) and Davison (8) failed. Great start though J.

NWTRYX - Hayden (72) got NWTYRX out of first gear, but Hussey (4) offered nothing.

cfc05 - MJ didn't play so no addition to yesterday's score.

DIG - McGrath (72) and Tait (52) were solid to continue DIG's good start. Is probably 2nd at the moment.

Djibril - Not much overnight for DC, Hodge 29 and Bracken just 12. Hodge is also sweating over Roy's return by all reports.

Sublime - Only Watson 30 played overnight

Kahuna - Gilly was very good with 70.

(All points quoted are without the top 7/top5 bonuses. eg. Jeremias will actually get 113x2 = 226 for Ponting......actually it's a good thing we didn't have the captain rule, would've been even 3 or 4 times his actual which is just too much).

2nite - Sri Lanka v Bermuda and Ireland v Zimbabwe

Jeremias
15th March 2007, 09:57
Had a pretty good night with Ponting and Tikolo shining. Punter 113 with the bat, Tikolo a half century with the bat and 2 wickets with the ball...huge scoring for me.

Davison was very disappointing, as was Clarke. Clarke will bounce back for sure. Hopefully Davison will as well...

Djibril Cisse

Sri Lanka didn't play Atapattu and Taylor took 3 catches for Zimbabwe, but I didn't have him in my XI.

Day 3

Jeremias - no action today meaning the rest of us can catch up a bit.

NWTRYX - Disappointing day really, Jayasuriya 22 and Vaas 20 failed to cash in on Bermuda.

cfc05 - Maharoof's 4 wickets was a great return, but Dilshan only got 12.

DIG - My faith in Jayawardene paid off with his 85 runs (97 points) overall. But can he carry this form into the tougher India and Bangy games? DIG's possibly in front now.

Djibril Cisse - Tharanga contributed 30, Atapattu didn't get a game but sub Zimbo Taylor did best with 72 in the classic tied match just completed.

Sublime - Sangakkara was huge overnight, including keeper bonuses he'll get 148. Murali chipped in with 40 but sub Porterfield failed to trouble the scorers for Ireland.

Kahuna - Malinga offered 60 but Fernando didn't get a game.

Seems we missed a couple of the Sri Lankan preferred starters in Silva and Arnold.

Tonight - much more action with the Kiwis facing up to the Poms while the Dutch take on the Saffies.

I can't promise to do these updates on the weekends, but will see how i go. After every team's played once i'll put together a running total (without bonuses) to get a better picture.

Day 4

Mixed bags for all overnight.

Jeremias - Boucher made 75 but strangely took no keeper catches. I haven't heard why Ntini didn't play.

NWTYRX - Gibbs Sobersesh knock meant 72 pts, Oram 83, Nixon 42 plus a catch and Anderson 40 meant a pretty good day for NWTRYX. Only Nel (0) failed.

cfc05 - Graeme Smith racked up 111 in an all-round effort, KP 60 and keeper McCullum took 4 grabs. On the flipside no 3 draft pick Pollock only got 32 while Taylor did nothing.

DIG - Men of the metches Styris 139 and Kallis 140, kept DIG's campaign rollocking along. But Vettori 0 and Bell 5 put a dampener on things.

Djibril - miserable day, God Devilliers got a duck and a runout, while Kemp and Bond took 2 wickets each. Strauss didn't play.

Sublime - Simulation king Ten Doeschate made 57, Plunkett 49 and Franklin 52. But like most other teams, there was disappointment too, Vincent and Flintoff made 0 and Hall took the 1 wicket.

Kahuna - Poor day for Kahuna, but it was mainly his lesser lights playing anyway, Collingwood scored 31, Monty 20 and Prince batted too low to get a bat, just a run-out to his name. Gillespie missed.

Tonight it's the Bangys vs India, while the Irish take on the Pakis, and may go alright if they get over the combination of their tie hangover and st patricks hangover!

I'll try to put some spreadsheets together to work out an official update after 8 games (every country played once).

Jeremias
17th March 2007, 10:27
Reasonable day for me again. Not happy with Ntini not playing, hopefully he isn't injured. Very happy with Boucher who batted magnificently, scoring the quickest 50 in World Cup history. Hopefully he continues the form throuh the competition. Would have liked him to take a few more catches, though.

Looks like I may have a very big scoring night tonight, though-I am represented in both games, particularly strongly in the Bangladesh vs India match. Mortaza and Nafees for Bangladesh should be their best players, and Tendulkar will be hoping for a big batting innings, hopefuly he gets a bowl as well-he is usually handy with the ball. May take a few catches as well. Inzamam could have a batting field day vs the Irish, too.

Sub Zaheer 35 was ok, but Sreesanth didn't play.

Younis Khan made a duck vs the Irish but took a catch.

cfc05
Sehwag's poor form continued but his 2 wickets were handy.

Rana didn't play and Umar scored buggerall too overnight. Miserable night for everyone with Pakis it seems.

DIG
Dravid only made 14 and Dhoni a duck, but his 2 catches and stumping helped redeem.

Shoiab made 9 plua a wicket, and Akmal 27 plus a stumping, so DIG extended the lead a little after this game.

Djibril Cisse
Uthappa 9 failed and Pathan didn't even play. Has no Pakis.

DC's gotta start making some runs soon - just 96 total so far.

Sublime
Yuvraj 47 and Ganguly 66 did the job for Sublime in the Indian's 1st outing.
Subs Nazir 24 and Porterfield 25 chipped in as well. A good night night for sublime given so many others failed in the upset games. Campaign is on track.

Kahuna
Harbhajhan did nothing and Yousuf just 15. Kahuna's well behind the leaders but does have Afridi and Symonds to return.

All of us with Paki players could be ruing this by the looks of things, can't see them making the next round....or can they??

Looking for some better scoring tonight, and I reckon I will get it with Ponting and Clarke-especially since we are playing the Dutch. They may not end up getting to bat, though.

Nah i deliberately didn't include the Pakis v Ireland stats in the comp-to-date update scores as it was their 2nd game. Wanted to get a clear picture of standings after every country had played once.

Don't worry, before the super 8s i'll do another update and the calculations will be from scratch too. I doubt i'll get the time to do an update after the 2nd round of group games but will see.

If Ireland makes the next round, as seems likely - you'll have the only irish guy porterfield, left in this comp for an extra 7 games. Great foresight!

Day 6 Update

Jeremias - Clarke had a huge one, 93 runs plus a catch and a runout. Ponting made 23, Davison chipped in also with 21 and a catch.

With his Bangys looking a big chance to progress, J's sitting pretty.

NWTRYX - A bland night all-in-all, Hayden 29+catch was handy but Hussey only made 2 plus a catch. Anderson took the 1 wicket and Nixon made 23 + a stumping.

cfc05 - Joyce (66) was very good but KP 5+catch wasn't. MJ missed again. None of us wanted Hogg which has cost us.

DIG - No star efforts overnight but is probably still leading, tho J would've eroded most of it. McGrath took 2 wickets and Tait 1, Bell made 28 plus a catch.

I'm sweating over the Indians now, if both them and Pakis are knocked out, I'll have just 9 left for the super 8s, including Bradshaw.

Djibril Cisse - Hodge Hodge Hodge! 123 and surely won't be dropped for Roy now....surely?? Bracken took 2 wickets but Strauss was overlooked for Bopara this time. DC's campaign finally gets into 2nd gear.

Sublime - must be tearing his hair out after a loaded up Freddie Flintoff was found drowning in his own puke in the water. No points there. Ryan Ten Doeschate got more wickets (2) than runs (1) and Watson made just 12no. Plunkett took 2 wickets.

Kahuna - Gilly was good - 57 plus stumping and runout. Roy missed as expected. Panesar took 1 wicket and Collingwood made 62 plus a runout. Not a bad day all in all.

Tonight - Bermuda vs India and Windies v Zimbabwe.

Yeah, while Sehwag was showing us that he can actually remembers how to play cricket, Uthappa was promoted to open the batting, and was caught for 3 by a diving one hander at slip by Dwayne Leverock. But oh well.

Oh well, after losing my real cricket finals, I have lost a bit of interest in this, as I'm not very happy with the game of cricket at the moment.

Djibril Cisse
20th March 2007, 10:49
While im here though, I just had a look at my score, and it seems that my batsmen are terrible, aside from Hodge, who made runs.. Sooner or later they'll step up, and if I start liking cricket again, I'll brag about it, but if not... I'll just let them play.

As it stands right now, Australia and West Indies are the only two teams guaranteed of a place in The Super 8's (with South Africa to join them when they beat Scotland tonight). So I currently have four players going through to the Super 8's :D

Overnight scores: Uthappa 3, Pathan DNP, B. Taylor 50, C. Gayle 40, J. Taylor 2 wickets

Tonight: AB De Villiers (vs. Scotland) & Shane Bond (vs. Kenya)

Day 7 update

Jeremias - Tendulkar 57, Kumble 60, Samuels 40. Super day for Jay.
NWTYRX - Zaheer 40, Sreesanth DNP.
cfc05 - best day so far, Virendar 114 and Bravo 49.
DIG - miserable. Dhoni 41, Sarwan 12, Dravid 7 and Bradshaw DNP. Probably lost the lead now and looking grim for the super 8s. I think the best of my team is behind it. If India fail to beat Sri Lanka and progress, i'm gone.
DC - B Taylor 50, J Taylor 40, Gayle 40, Uthappa 15, Pathan DNP. Pretty good day but still well behind.
Sublime - Yuvraj 83 and Gangoolies 89 cashed in v Bermuda, double these and it's a massive charge from Sublime overnight.
Kahuna - Lara 44, Chanderpaul 21 and Harbjajhan didn't play.

Guys I reckon I'm screwed for the Super 8's-not sure I will be able to field a full team. What do we do in that case-is it tough luck or do we let people draft undrafted players into their team?

Sublime
22nd March 2007, 21:02
Hmm this is a tough one. I think perhaps we'd just keep everything as it was but if everyone agreed i'd have no problem with people 'filling' their sides up. Would need to work out a way of doing it though. If anything i'd suggest the 'reverse draft order' as used in Yahoo Fantasy Leagues, that would seem to be the fairest way i'd imagine.

cfc05
22nd March 2007, 21:05
Defiantely tough luck!!! otherwise i would of made chnages before the world cup!!

We picked these side to last the whole thing, hence we didnt pick bangies and other minows - cause we thought they wouldnt make it to the super 8's!

BTW i have two pakis gone and Mithchell Johno who wont play, so im screwed aswell.

The 13 picked is your 13, if you only have 6 participants in the Super 8's stage, that's unfortunately, but when picking your 13, you should have thought of that :p

Don't worry man, i reckon i'll have 9 max for the super 8s as well!

In hindsight maybe we should've gone to 15 players, likes of C Silva, Smith and Hogg were never picked up.

If Sri Lanka beat India, and they should, except that the indians have more motivation (1. cos need to win to make super 8, and 2. need to win or their houses will be bombed by crazy fans), then no Dravid or Dhoni and DIG's campaign will be derailed.

Sorry for the lack of daily updates, just mental at work lately, plus i've got Dreamteam Draft Night on sunday to think about now.

But will get the official updated results out after super 8s, people can post their teams for the 2nd half of the comp from any time now and i'll add them to post #2 of this thread.

Think we are all in a bit of trouble now... but it all adds to the intrigue of this type of comp. No point in changing the rules.

Guessing a few people are praying Bermuda can beat the Bangers and save India.... Sehwag could be saved for me in that case, however it would mean some of you others will have 2 kept in.

Good bye to two quick bowler in Gul and Ul-Hasen for CFC, bowling attack looks very bare now.

Ohh the fun begins tonight... MASSIVEGAME~!

Had a BRILLIANT night for scoring last night.

Ponting-91 runs
Clarke-92 runs, 1 catch
Boucher-22 runs
Ntini-1 wicke, 7 runs
Tikolo-76 runs, 1 wicket

That will be avery high score for me, and I need it. Considering I won't have enough players to fil a team by the Super 8's stage of the competition, some of my players will need to pick up the slack-and it looks like that's exactly what they are doing.

OK everyone, we're at the halfway mark. Post your teams for the second half, before the first super 8 game (Tues night our time).

I've got 9 left with the Indians and Pakis out, will need to decide on a new keeper too with both Dhoni and Akmal out. Haven't checked the scores lately but i'm sure i would've lost the lead a while ago. (to J? or sublime?)

I'll pump out the results this evening and those points will be locked away. The results after the finals will award the double points for top 7 runmakers/top 5 wickettakers per team for the super 8s plus finals and that will be added to what you've scored so far to determine the winner....

OFFICIAL SCORE UPDATE AFTER GROUP PHASE.

........and it's tighter than a nun's fanny at the top here:

Jeremias 2981
Sublime 2925
cfc05 2876
DIG 2856
NWTRYX 2085
Kahuna 1975
Djibril Cisse 1973

Djibril your score includes 2 points for Jerome taylor being your 7th highest run scorer. :p

I'll try to do another update after the super 8s - that way we can see the standings going into the 2 semis and the final.

J - bad luck on the players, we can't draft now otherwise some will be angry as they might've gone likes of Tikolo etc earlier.

We'll all have around 8 by the looks of things - maybe we should've drafted more than 13 at the start - i thought we'd all have about XI for the Super 8s but this just means this comp's tested us more than we expected!

Jerome Taylor huh :p :D what a gun! Hopefully Strauss and Atapattu play, and Hodge gets back into the side somehow... I might be able to make a charge with all 10 players playing

Too bad, I cant be bothered sorting it all out.

I think that DIG is probably in the best position going into the super 8's. Pretty solid lineup still!

DIG doesn't have AB de Villiers, so I am in the best position :D

Gayle will come good aswell... but, I'm very worried about the three players who wont play

You have a good point there. AB has single handedly guided you into a commanding last place so far ;)

Still fairly happy with my situation...equal amount of players left as Dig - 20 points up on him.

Pollock to fight back!

Hayden's awesome form is keeping NWTRYX in touch with the leaders.

No update today with game to continue into tomorrow. Hayden's the only big scorer so far though - 158 runs.

I'm not as confident with my lineup as some of yous! Styris is playing above himself, Mahela still looks dodgy and Bradshaw will hardly play now. Really need Kallis to make some big, slooooow hundreds for me.

Sublime looks to have lost most of his bats - may struggle a bit from here unless Flintoff can fire up.

Taylor didn't take a wicket, Gayle has not batted yet, Hodge DNP and Bracken has not bowled yet...

So, I've had a pretty lackluster day, unless Bracken can take 8 wickets... I will be struggling

Who would of thought Hayden would dominate for NWTYRX only to be cancled out by Hussey's miserable world cup to date.

Bravo taking two is probs the best outcome i could of hoped for so far in this game... hopefully he make a few with the bat and a few catches can be taking by Australias (sub) Johnson.. lol does that count

haha, yes... i can't believe my number 1 pick has made probably 20 runs in the tournament so far

And you gotta remember Hayden didn't exactly set the world alight against The Minnows, he decided that he would come to the party against South Africa & West Indies, and good on him. Bravo has been more than handy, he will get more wickets as the tournament goes on, and will make runs... as for Johnson, I'm sure if Australia needed a fielder, Hodge will be first choice to go on the field.

Hussey is allowed to have a bad run, he has been so good since coming into the side, it was bound to happen, so what if Australia win the World Cup without Hussey actually doing anything at all, we know that when he plays in 2nd and final World Cup in 2011, he will dominate and then retire!

I'm so glad I didn't choose him with the number 1 pick.

Happy I went the safer option (Ponting) instead.
