No Gibbs and Kallis, this time the Dutch get to bowl to Gilchrist and Ponting. The Aussies will be unchanged after Symonds was told to have another game off after the slaughter of the Scots, unless they decide to give McGrath a rest ahead of the ‘crucial’ clash (that really doesn’t have a huge impact on anything if they beat the minnows) against the South Africans next weekend. Stuart Clark is the most likely replacement after outperforming Johnson in the warm up games, and being similar in style to the veteran. Another chance for Tait to use his pace against batsmen more accustomed to medium pacers opening the bowling. A few run milestones – Ponting’s 31 away from 10,000, Hayden’s 100 away from 5,000, and Clarke’s within 92 of 3,000. Bracken went wicketless against the Scots and remains 4 away from his 100th ODI wicket.
The Dutch are regretting the decision to leave out all four specialist bowlers against the Proteas, and Daan van den Hoogenbunge may pay the price for helping Herschelle Gibbs send a million bucks to charity, with one of the Pakistani spinners to come in. In the pace department, Mark Jonkman, I believe, is the only option with Schiferli having a hamstring problem. Medium pacers Tim de Leede, Peter Borren and Luuk van Troost are the contenders to make way there, with Borren the favourite to give Jonkman an early 21st birthday present, as de Leede top scored amongst the mortals against South Africa and van Troost is the skipper – those two also have a strong Mars or something, which I’m sure will have a lot of influence on the Dutch selectors. Ryan ten Doeschate is again the major hope for the Dutch, maintaining his 50+ average with a 57 against the top ranked Proteas, while Boucher destroyed his bowling figures with 19 off the over before letting Kallis hit a four to end the South African’s spell an over earlier than planned.

Maybe the Netherlands are as dumb as Scotland by winning the toss and electing to bowl.

I can say that I have seen Australia play at Basseterre (St Kitts). It was a tour game between the 2nd and 3rd Tests in 1995. I remember goats were grazing down at fine leg.

I hardly think you can compare Australia to Pakistan & India at this stage. Those 2 sides are going to be lucky to make the super8.
I do hope Australia bats first otherwise the game will be over too quickly.

Why?
The game could be over in an hour if that happens.
Let the Aussies bat - score 400+ then give Hodge some bowling practice.

I'm betting ed wants to give full attention to the Might of England against Canada....if australia finishes things off before lunch, he'll have plenty of time for that, and more importantly, won't have to see big scores for his least favourite Aussie players....

Actually that 2nd part is wrong, if the Aussies batted first there would be more chance for Hodgey in his last game than chasing a mediocre total in which the hack at the top will boost his average with a 100 ball half century

Not true. Carry over points for the Super 8's may be crucial!

Sleep? FFS, ed, the Cup has just started- and the England v Canada match is one you've been looking forward to. Suck it up and stay up....Advantage here (disadvantage during the week with work) is that matches run from 10 AM to 6 PM.....But that wouldn't suit your sleep pattern.
As for the batting...well, Hodge would at best get a cameo (slogging in the last 10-15 overs)- and big scores for your heroes Haydos, Punter and Pup would not have you in a good mood.
Gilchirst would be licking his lips with this bowling attack that the Netherlands have. I have a feeling the quickest century record is in serious trouble. Were just unlucky that Symonds isn't playing.

Hayden making a big score means you obviously dont expect Australia to challenge any record scores during this game should the Aussies bat first :)

Yeah, I get a week off in mid April- right at the end of the Super 8s.....I don't really give a stuff about record scores- I want to see good matches- neither of the matches today look to be competitive, though- not like yesterday.
A ODI can be fantastic with a team chasing 220 in the right conditions.

Why should a minnow choose to bat first? If I was captain, I would bowl first. Most know it won't be a contest, so why bat first and get 40-50 overs of experience when you can bowl first and get twice as long in the field? What does it matter if they lose by 300 runs or 9 wickets? Their goal should be to continue to learn and improve, and batting first and getting dismissed for 100 does them a double disservice.

And batting trying to chase 400 is better? They are better off trying to build an innings against a top nation and seeing if their batsman can compete and then give their bowlers something to defend
If the opposition makes 350+ they can exactly play out the 50 overs, they are going to have to go for it and fall over, they will learn more from building an innings and their bowlers attempting to defend a total

Hayden better get on with it today, its the Dutch FFS Matty, no slow starts, 100 should be up inside the 1st powerplay.

Starts each game like he's just had a 20 match run of single figure scores. Singles for a few overs, then plays the one attacking shot he has, the walk down the wicket slog which either goes for 6 over mid-on or for 4 over point.
Then he feels like hes done his job and bats out another 10 or so overs before he goes walkabout again.
Comes off the field with a 40 (60), "oh well done Matty".

100% correct.
And he needs to learn how to play on the backfoot, he's just terrible, at the start of the innings all he wants to do is straight drive, it's annoying. Learn to pull and cut properly you slow bastard!! :p

Exactly what I was looking at. And needs 42 to get his average to 40.
If he does get to 31, it will have taken him 265 innings, 3rd to Tendulkar (259) and Ganguly (263).
Umm according to his profile he has an average of 42 already
Who does go out when Symo comes back? Watson, Podge or Haydos..
It got to be either Watson or Hayden if it was me .. but will prob be Hodge.
