View Full Version : from last nights team, who wont be picked round one
fridige's failures

considering we were full strength and victorious i doubt there will be any inclusions into the 24. from observing last nights game it appeared that wiggins (lacjk of game time) wont be picked, who else will be left out, or which 2 will be if not wigo

Suspect Hartlett might struggle to keep his spot in the 22 when round 1 comes around. I think Wiggins might be the other one in a bit of trouble to hold his spot as well, although he did do some nice things when he was on the ground.

wiggins will struggle to hold down a permanent position,if it was based on last night i'd be worried for eddie, he had a pretty tame one except for that great chase and tackle (in the 1st qtr i think). but he'l bounce back. doubt hartlett will stay in the team

I'd hate for it to be Hartlett, but like everyone else here, i do think it may well be him and Wiggins.

Does Gibbs need a run down at the Bullants?
Just putting the question out there.

I think he does, but I reckon he plays round 1, just for the publicity factor. He's a decent fit to play Richmond cos they have a lot of young midfielders who won't bully him physically too much - and Wiggins doesn't really fit our team for this week.
I say Hartlett and Wiggins get dropped this week.
wouldnt disagree totally but we have to remember he is 17 years old and we have to be patient with all the kids so they get the experience at the level required, a long way to go still but a run in the twos for all kids is a good thing so they get more game time and gain confidence from having a greater influence on a game
Wiggins is definitely on the fringe but I really like some of the work he puts in as a half forward and I hope he gets some time on the ground early in the season to prove his worth

did we Play any rookies? if not we should play the current side for rd 1 to see? i think we'll be a real hand full for Richmand to Handle and they will crumble :)
more wins we get the more confident we'll become :)
and get out of the Habit of Loosing maby 1 or 2 down the track but not to get in to the habbit of it
if we can start winning interstate games would be good
like last years premiers wce & 2005 Sydney swans

maby don't play him against Adelaide or Port for this year
don't want a repeat of what Brisbane did to Murph delibratly lined him up :thumbsd:

I like wiggins at HF. but i cant see anyone else coming out. maybye russel. but you have to reward young guys after a good game.
Gibbs will need to find his feet between 1 - 4 to avoid a bullants stint.

If Gibbs gets sent to the ressies he can carry Pagan's messages to Mitchell. Seamless communication at MC Hammer.

Yes!! i really think so. He has the talent, but he's not comfortable at the moment. dropping easy marks etc. i think playing a bit in the vfl, he could get comfortable playign wit some of his other teammates who are occasionally in the starting 22, as well as similar players from other clubs. just give him a few weeks there to feel comfortable wit himself, then bring him bak in teh starting 22, let his skill do the talkin
I really do think he would benefit heaps from a lil stint in the vfl

Yes he does, remember than not all no1 picks have been automatic selections come round 1, took reiwoldt till about round 15 to get a game, lets give the kid sometime and start to show what he is worth, it wouldnt hurt kennedy to start at the bullants too.

Wiggins will struggle to be there come round 1-was very quiet on the weekend. Needs a few weeks with the Bullants to hopefully recapture the form of last year.
Hartlett, as much as I hate to say it, won't be in the best 22 from round 1. He will be by the end of the season, though.

Not sure if I agree with you, however good point in that don't just play him because he's no.1 pick.
Pagan said on SEN this morning he will play Round 1.

Jeremias I know you love Hartlett, why did Pagan give him so little ground time in GF.
Considering JK was not having a great night, ideal opportunity to play him more.

You have to drop at least 2 players. Is there any concern over Fevola? When he grabbed his leg the other night before kicking a Cloke special I was a little worried he might be sore and miss training, or is he fine?
Thanks

Don't know why he wasn't given much of an opportunity to be honest.
Maybe Denis wanted more or less to stick with the players that would definitely be playing round 1 for the Blues.

Why would we have to drop at least 2 players?
As for Fevola-nothing has been reported on the injury front, so I am led to believe he is OK and as far as I know will be lining up at FF vs Richmond

Because the bench drops from 6 to 4.

I think Gibbs is 18 now, and will play round 1.
I would be in favour of them saying you'll play the first 8 games then have a breather.
If so then Blackers to come up.
Wiggo will miss, but I thought played well. Probably fighting for Fisher's spot.
Hartlett to miss.
Love our Depth.

I'd almost agree with this!!! His continual search for cheap kicks and backing away from putting his body in, avoidance of shepherding, etc. is frustrating...especially as overall I think he has the skills/attributes to be anything
As for Hartlett, I sincerely hope he doesn't miss out as I personally believe he could be the find of 2007 if he gets some good game time

Rather than continually use it as a throw away line, can someone please explain what a cheap kick is?

Running behind player who's done all the ground work for free (usually within 15-20m radius) asking for ball. A kick that adds no value, ie. in no better position than kicker (usually sideways). Campo was a classic at this and the cheap handball in his latter years...

No idea what it is. Haven't seen it in the stats. I have seen hard ball gets and I know who was in the top 2 in 2006. Some people like to throw these terms around just because they've formed an opinion and don't want anything to alter that (and it's starting to get a bit tiresome going on about it every week).

Drop Wiggins and Hartlett.
Harts needs more game time at VFL level. I want to see him really tear some teams apart down there before coming up.
I think we should play Gibbsy for at the first 5-6 games and then maybe give him a week or 2 at Preston if he is battling.

Funny, because it get used a lot for guys who lose their man and find themselves in space. Please tell me how many kicks hoops had that went to a man that added no value?
Awaiting your detailed analysis rather than just cherry picking from the stands.

He should only go down to the bullants if his is performing poorly after the first few rounds to get his confidence up. Right now his biggest weakness is that he isn't used to the pace of AFL football. How would playing in the VFL help him inprove this? It wouldn't it would hamper him.
