Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad
12:30am AEDT Thursday March 22

Second round of the group stage wraps up with this one, where only Bangladesh can guarantee themselves a spot in the super eights, joining Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and the West Indies who have already qualified from the other groups. The Bangladeshis go into this match with all the confidence, having beaten New Zealand and India along with minnows Bermuda, Canada and Scotland since arriving in the Caribbean, while their opponents lost to New Zealand and have beaten only minnows Bermuda and Scotland in their three games in the region.

Thanks to that run there will be no change in the Bangladesh side. The best news out of the win over India was the three players who scored all the runs were the three kids – then 17-year-old Tamim Iqbal (he turned 18 yesterday), surprise selection as keeper Mushfiqur Rahim, and to a lesser extent since he’s been doing it for a while even though he’s a few days away from his twentieth birthday, Sakib Al Hasan.

Their opponents got some batting practice against the Bermudans, with Jayawardene getting some much needed runs, his first ODI 50 since leaving England last July. The man he replaced as captain missed out in a lineup including seven batsmen, while playing only the four specialist bowlers was not tested due to Bermuda being skittled in less than half the allotted overs. The team will likely remain the same, however while Bangladesh may still be considered minnows by many, it’s a big step up to make runs and take wickets against them compared with Bermuda.

Bangladesh XII: Shahariar Nafees, Tamim Iqbal, +Mushfiqur Rahim, Aftab Ahmed, Sakib Al Hasan, *Habibul Bashar, Mohammad Ashraful, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mohammad Rafique, Tapash Baisya, Abdur Razzak, Syed Rasel

Bangladesh should bat first, IMO.

Tamim to go off again.

Agree, can't see them chasing the 275+ that Sri Lanka would make batting first.

Might put a bit on Sangakkara for SL high bat.

this is a tough game for SL. If they send Bangas in, under 250 should be ok. If they bat first they need 270 plus i reckon. We need Malinga to fire for us early as well.

My prediction, SL by aboiut 30 runs or 5 wickets. But dont be surprised if the Bangladeshis win.

Sri Lanka should certainly still be strong favourites but I wouldn't have throught they'd be this strong. Bangladesh would be worth a flutter.

I think the next world cup will be when these young bangladeshi's come of age, we could see a Sri Lanke type break through.

Bangladesh might have to be wary of their net runrate in the next 2 games, in case India beat Sri Lanka.

I believe we have to win tonight or we won't make it, as India will beat SriLanka and both them sides will have a higher NRR.
In saying that i think we'll beat sri Lanka.
As long as Vass doesn't have a day out.

I'm not ruling out the Bangas here. They've beaten the Lankans a few times in the past and are in some pretty damn good form.

I'm on the Bangas.

Malinga 3/27 was the best but SL tried out all 7 bowlers and 6 of them got 1 wicket each.

Sri Lanka win by 198 runs and play India on Friday.

What on earth was that shot at the end from Chamara Silva, A reverse drive pull shot? Amazing, must have a lot of strength in his wrists.

About 4 mins 30 seconds in with he score on 304... A flick into the leg side from outside off, from one of Bangladesh's quickest bowlers too, amazing.
