AFL Website 2007 Kangaroos Preview

Brady Rawlings - The Kangaroos' No 1 stopper had his best year in the AFL in 2006. Rawlings has been touted as the Roos' next captain and enters his eighth year of AFL footy as an important role model for the team's younger players.

Round 1 Match Report:

Stats: 6 Kicks, 6 Handballs, 1 Mark, 3 Tackles

This is going purely by following the match on radio (couldn't make it to the match) - The dual Syd Barker medallist had minimal influence offensively and subsequently there was no real moment where he stood out. Was opposed to Ben Johnson for most of the game, did well for 3 quarters, but Johnson killed him in the last quarter (couldn't do anything about his goal though). Johnson only had 15 touches overall (which increases Rawlings' rating a little) but it was still not a real good start for Rawlings.

Rating Round 1: 5/10
Average for Season 2007: 5/10

EDIT: Figured I was a tad harsh on his rating

I'd hazard a guess - and with the hindsight of 2 Syd Barkers - that Brady's game would be rated much higher from those at the club. Totally owned Johnson for much of the day though admittedly Johnson got away a couple of times in the last. Certainly at least a pass mark if I was scoring him (which I'm not!!)

Very likely that he'll miss round 2 with knee soreness :(

Round 2 Match Report:

Stats: 8 Kicks, 13 Handballs, 9 Marks, 4 Tackles

Ended up playing after a late fitness test. I wasn't really following him too closely but from what I gathered, he wasn't really playing a tight tagging role on any one player for the whole game. In the first quarter, was playing on the wing trying to gather touches and wasn't tagging. Was matched up on Salopek (who actually looked like the tagger in the matchup) and then moved onto Peter Burgoyne in the 2nd who didn't have much impact (in that quarter).

Rawlings was on the bench for most of the 3rd quarter and that's when the Port midfield run amok (Burgoynes, Pearce and Salopek mainly). In the last quarter played in defence on Pearce and kept him virtually touchless. Very strange role, don't know if his injury had an effect on that but I expected him to play on Shaun Burgoyne who killed us ultimately which was a bit disappointing. But overall when he was tagging did well and was handy offensively winning 21 touches.

Rating Round 2: 6/10
Average for Season 2007: 5.5/10

Round 3 Match Report:

Stats: 5 Kicks, 9 Handballs, 4 Marks, 1 Tackle

Keep this brief...

Tagged Crawford, kept him to 18 touches, but he was still non-existant. Brady no impact either but did his job.

Rating Round 3: 6/10
Average for Season 2007: 5.67/10

Round 4 Match Report:

Stats: 14 Kicks, 10 Handballs, 3 Marks, 4 Tackles

Tagged Black all night but couldn't keep his numbers down. Broke even with him though in possessions (Black had 25) but was far less damaging. The fact that Black got 2 goals in a low scoring game doesn't help his rating either.

Brady was good in the last quarter though keeping Black relatively quiet and he kept belting the ball forward with a few ending up as scoring opportunities.

Rating Round 4: 6/10
Average for Season 2007: 5.75/10
