A 50-point gap is a realistic indicator of where Geelong stands against Essendon, on the whole AFL yardstick. The Bombers, at worst, are a top-three team, while Geelong's ongoing rebuilding project currently dictates that they are in the lower half of the table.

The Cats will improve throughout the season, certainly-- but for now, given the gulf between the two sides, they can have no complaints over a half-century-wide loss against one of the AFL's elite sides.

A small victory, however, can be taken in the final term, seeing how they were a slightly better side than the Bombers. Let's see if Mark Thompson sees that as such and chooses to emphasize some sense of momentum to prepare for the trip to Adelaide next weekend.

It was pleasing to see Geelong didn't give the game away in the final term and tried hard until the very end. Essendon are renowned for flogging whoever they play in round one and lets hope Mark Thompson and his coaching staff learn from this game and get stuck into the Crows next weekend.

Exactly true, my friend. It was kind of difficult for the first three terms knowing that every loose ball looked like a three-to-one man-disadvantage in Essendon's favor. If we could only perform tactically like that. :(

But after watching the Crows win today, next weekend's travels to S.A. will be no picnic at all.

However, if Thompson gets the Cats in the right mindset, then they might be able to at the very least, keep the game close and do some serious damage in the final term.

Right now, this does not seem like a team that can play together for four quarters of footy-- I saw that pattern in the preseason, and that has carried over to the home-and-away premiership. Perhaps something with the new faces in the squad has something to do with that, but no one should accept that as an excuse.

Oh, well, next week is another matter. We'll see if there is marked improvement then.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the team responds over there in Adelaide next week. Lets hope Geelong really take it up to the Crows and if they do, you just never know what might happen!! ;)
