Far from his better games. Minimal influence.
His lack of pace in this game showed with the new game plan. Other than in a pack where he tries to use a releasing handball with plenty of attention he really struggles to run free off his man. He went to Lockyer most of the game who got good stats. After a bounce it's hard to know what to do with him. I think running with a slower paced midfielder might be the right idea.
I did notice how he used his smarts running off his man to chop off an incoming ball in defence once or twice. That's a positive use he's found for himself. Really though he needs a Ling like engine to make himself useful. We know he lacks gut running and now that is becoming more apparent. He can't use his pace to outrun his opponent so he needs to improve his engine and be in close at every contest. Kerr is another example. Other than that i think 10-15 disposal games will be more frequent this year. We'll get good contested work from him at centre bounces just we'll be a man down when this isn't happening. Needs to run to every contest all day.
Harsh I know - but I have faith, he's a quality smart contested footballer we require and I think he will improve as he learns how to adapt to the game plan.
Feel free to add anything.

Very modest assessment BF Harro... can't argue when you consider Hamish was one of the team bests.. did spend two stints in the vital (can I say that?) last quarter on the pine... WTF is JYD doing with our best (AFL best) hardball accumilator??? this rating can apply to JYD I guess.

Does any1 know his I50 contribution because I thought he was insrtumental in a few of them. but didnt have his same usual influence which warranted a below par score.
Probably a bit harsh, yes.
I sort of view 5 as a standard game. so he was quite away off it, that's not saying he was really poor.
so for your standard score out of 10 i'd give it a 6.
^Hope that makes sense^
He is a clearance specialist - we know that. I would like to know if he should be spending 67% tog (thanks for that stat) or if the coach is choosing to do that for an unforeseen reason.

You're pretty critical of his lack of pace, and I agree, he isn't one to stream down the wing in the clear.
He has pretty good acceleration though and is quite capable of breaking free from an opponent from a standing start. Did you note the clearance in the last quarter where he took off and ran at least 25 metres from the centre square burning off two or three Collingwood players (yep, the one which had the entire Pie's supporter base calling 'how far?')
Missed today's game altogether unfortunately - it was my birthday and all.
I was out in the bush so no access to foxtel and no radio's around - would appreciate someone else to chip in for me this week. With some luck i may be able to look at the game later on in the week.
Thanks.

I actually quite liked Harro's game on the weekend.
I was surprised to see in the stats that Simpson had more clearances than he did. Harro really seemed to get stuck in and win a lot of hard ball.
On the downside - we probably lost the midfield game this week, the two Burgoynes and Pearce killed us. So while we may have won hard ball we didn't use it or run with it as well as Port did.
My feeling is that Harro will be really valuable for us as the weather starts to worsen and ball-winning ability becomes more important.
Again not sure how much time he spent on the ground - perhaps someone else can enlighten?

Harro had a massive last quarter on the weekend and a good overall game.
I think he also put down the suggestions that a loss in body weight will mean he won't be able to stand-up in tackles.
Not sure which stats you saw TMT, but in the Herald Sun he was listed as having 8 clearances, which was the most in the league for the weekend (from memory Simpson and O'Bree had 7 but it dropped away to 5 after that).

Defining the definition of clearance. Harro takes first possession from tap out... shrugs off opponent, handballs/ passes to Simmo who kicks it forward... do statisticians give Harro the clearance or Simmo the clearance?
That's the burning question.
I'd give it to Harro. The HardBall get is what it's more about IMHO.
I gave Harro 2 votes vs Port Power. Prefer a hardball getter instead of a pinky pie easy reciever kinda game like Simmo or Sinclair.

One his best games. Ran all day through the middle and instead of being a specialist at the base of ruck duals made it to a lot more packs in general play. His lack of pace has not changed but he made it to far more contests which is what he has needed to do - it leads to increased tackles (19!) and possessions (especially with those killer releasing handballs in close). Went with Sam Mitchell for a time and did well against him at ball-ups and kept up in general play.
Spent more time running forward to keep a ball inside 50 rather than dropping back to help out defence - but in general just ran down the corridor making each contest.
If he can keep up that sort of run and mix it in with his smarts to make the contest we know how much of the ball he'll win. Really impressive game and shows me he is capable of becoming a better player - dare I say elite?
Feel free to add anything.

Dare.
Great game from Harro. Ferocious in getting the loose ball and trying to get the ball when someone else had it.
Must back it up next week with a solid performance.
If anyone wants to add something feel free.
I missed this one and was set to watch the 4pm replay today.
Unfortunately had to coach last minute so i'll have to get the torrent.
Harris says body is getting stronger
Brought to you by Jordan Chong, AAP
KANGAROOS midfielder Daniel Harris says his body is catching up with his intense, physical playing style.
Speaking before training at Arden Street, Harris said the benefit of several pre-season campaigns had meant an increase in game time from about 70 per cent in previous years to somewhere approaching 85 per cent this season.
His tough, in-close approach to the footy was best shown in round three when he laid 15 tackles against Hawthorn.
After four rounds, he has accumulated 28 tackles, second in the league behind Sydney's Brett Kirk, who has 29.
"The more running and the more pre-seasons you do, the better off you're going to be and I suppose you can get to know your body a bit more and what you can do with it," Harris, 24, said. "That's really helped me over the last couple of years."
"Just over time I'm slowly developing a bit more of an engine and hopefully I can get up to around 90 per cent (game time)."
The 24-year-old Harris said some different midfield rotations meant he is able to go up forward instead of coming off the ground.
"It is high impact and it does wear you out pretty quickly so I've just got to learn how to play with it," Harris said.
"I know how far I can push myself and when I need a rest so that's been a big difference, especially this year."
The Kangaroos broke through for their first win of 2007 at the weekend when they defeated Brisbane at Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast.
Harris - who has played 95 games since his making debut in 2001, including all 22 matches last year - said the team was pleased to finally put together a four-quarter effort that yielded a victory.
"I suppose the pressure's been lifted a little bit but we've been playing some pretty good football in the last couple of weeks and we knew that a win wasn't too far away," Harris said.
"(Against) Port we came (within) six points and obviously Hawthorn blew us out of the water. It was good to show the character of the boys to never give up against Brisbane.
"It's a good sign we know we can do it."
Cheers to GR for this.

Lucky me, apparently this was "game of the round" for fox and it got a few more replays. McIntosh, Wells, Edwards and Petrie (shouldn't go into the ruck - let Hale do it when he is around - or Moran) all impressed me from the young brigade, with Harvey, Simpson and Archer doing well in the older brigade. Watt and Gibson worry me in general play - Gibson doing well in 1-on-1's. Well that's my thoughts on the game.
Harris was not at his best in this one. He linked up well which is what i wanted to see but he hangs of packs a lot - not prepared to go in and get the ball. Roles should be reversed here. Often I'll see Sinclair or Wells fighting for the ball to feed out to Harris. Harris has to be in the packs.
Again, great performance at stoppages when he is already at the contest. I think it was Notting and/or Fixter he fought with in these contests.
From these contests he really was everywhere. Back, forward and in the middle waiting for a mark. The ball just didn't get to him a lot in these situations. I think he should be running to the contest rather than being a linkman through various areas of the ground.
Last week I said:
"If he can keep up that sort of run and mix it in with his smarts to make the contest we know how much of the ball he'll win. Really impressive game and shows me he is capable of becoming a better player - dare I say elite?"
The difference was he wasn't getting to the contest with his "smarts" - this may be a coaching thing or a Daniel Harris thing - we'll see.

Harris bounced back from a fairly average game last week. What I love in this game was his ability to keep his feet in clearances and in defence to help clear the ball.
He went into packs this game to give a handball and set of a chain of possessions out of defence - a great feature of our game today, we killed geelong when they didn't score. We were actually accurate this time as well.
We have a lot of in and under players coming through now and Daniel may find it hard to keep his place, but what I saw today was evidence enough that he will be fine. He gives us quality access to the ball with a good releasing handball and can pick it up off the deck cleanly. Impressed with his fitness this year.

Thought we did well getting the ball from the centre time and time again even when McIntosh or Petrie failed to win the hitout. Our players just harassed the Swans midfielders all day. Grant, Harvey, Edwards, Brown, Campbell etc. all pushed right up the ground outside of the forward 50 - impressive stuff, something i have not seen before. Edwards was leading all the way to defence to link up. The result of this was that when we rebounded we always had an option.
Harris was also in the category. Went with Kirk, Ablett and the bald guy (i never remember his name. would like to know it though as i think he is a good player - sydney midfielders, so damn vanilla). Beat Kirk when on him and managed a handy goal on him from a free kick. Went to defence to help out as Ive said and also used to link up when we got the football out of defence.
We really converted well from effective clearances and pressured the swans into mistakes when they went forward - great signs. We have an abundance of players of Harris' ilk now and because of this things look rosy :)
A standard circa 20 possession game today for Harris - liked his pressure, his clearance work. Still not what I thought he would be, but still a mighty impressive player.

A bit more passion from me this year.
Round 6 is pathetic.
Was unsighted at training by "The Zebra". Would have been with his baby boy Sam.
Again, a big congratulations to Dan on his new son.

Daniel was another very good player in a good year. All the Kudos seemed to go to Jesse Smith in the semi final, however I personally thought that Daniel was the most influential midfielder in that game. If he can keep up that level of work he will be one of our best this year.
Thought he did well in this game. Kept the clearances level.
The quality of some of his clearances in the last quarter led to goals.
Overall he should be happy given the humid conditions.
Four clearances, many handballs. Typical Harris game.
Went missing after the bounce. Needs to link up more and be prepared to dish it off to players with better disposal. Four inside 50's isn't desirable from a player like him. Having him and Swallow on at the same time isn't the best idea - both never seem to want to run at top gear.
Look forward to a similar week in and under the packs with hopefully more impact when the game is flowing.
Vs. Geelong
good game. improved once the ruckmen started making it at least a neutral ball in the middle.
Ran forward of the play. This is so much better for him than chasing tail in general play. Especially given how the game has become more and more risky where you play on at all costs. He has been putting a goal to his name more often.
Quality game after being down on form for little over a month.
Vs. Fremantle.
Again made himself useful outside just the stoppages and centre bounces. Handy 20+ possession game but failed to have any real impact. His impact is through clean take aways and giving it off to others. He had 1 or 2 great clearances but is still well done in this area - an area he made his own 2 and even 1 year ago.
Vs. Hawthorn and St Kilda
I'm starting to think he is the barometer of the team.
32 possessions after a spray from Laidley against the Hawks. He follows this performance with a lackluster 16 possessions and ~50% game time.
North return to their 2007 form against the Hawks and continue it for 1 quarter against St Kilda before throwing in the towel once the Saints got a run on. Honestly I don't understand why North and Harris can be so good one week and then so poor the next.
Against Hawthorn he was definitely the Harris of old. He was involved in every tight situation; he ensured he got there to help out his fellow midfielders - this is his strength. There was a very nice highlights package for him from that game and it was seeing him play like that made him my favourite player. I really hope we see him find a way to maintain that type of form and eradicate his inconsistency. There is no questioning he is a good player and that we always want him at North... but we need him to perform for the team's sake.
Go North.

Loyal servant and a quality bloke by all accounts.
Good luck Harro, hope you get picked up.
