--------------------------------------

Kangaroo fans will be expecting big things of Drew this year, after finishing last season very strongly. For 15 rounds it seemed, Drew was one the supporters wanted to trade or delist. No one really stood by him besides Laidely. Dean gave him every chance, and sent his love child down back in a master move against Deluca. Petrie held Deluca for the rest of the game, and everyone was thinking he might be a backmen, but many were still doubtful.

Drew finished the season off down back beautifully and will be our number one backmen going into the 07 season. He is more suited to the bigger/slower moving forwards like a Whitnell, Lade, McGregor, Bradshaw etc.

So far, his pre season has been impressive. He has kept up is form down back, and no forwards have gotten on top of him yet. He was very impressive against Whitnell in the NAB cup. The only time big red got the ball off him was when he pushed up centre wing, and Petrie just floated around the 50 - metre line, and was filling a nice whole in defence.

AFL Website 2007 Kangaroos Preview

Drew Petrie - Kicked four goals in 21 games in 2006, his lowest total since his debut season in 2001. On the positive side, Petrie averaged 17 disposals per game compared with 10 per game in the previous two seasons.

(Worst preview ever - they must have taken an in-depth look at his move to defence for that one)

Dont even bother with those previews. I read through them all. None were accurate and most of the things they said was pointless.

Round 1: VS Collingwood

Probably in our best 4 on the day. Was immensssssssssssse

Totally owned Rocca, and moved up the ground well and offered us something more.

Sure hands all day, as well as good disposal.

Not much too say than he totally outplayed his oponent, and was in our best for sure ;)

8.5/10

Against Port Adelaide, many people had him in there top 3 roos players on the ground. Did a good job all day.

8/10

(I didn't see the match)

Against Hawks:

He was good again, but when he pushed forward his decision making was poor, well one time i recall it was. Other than that, his disposal was good, and he pushed up well. Did well in defence and filled a few wholes. Mainly played loose.

7.5/10

Is it just me or is there no thread for Drew as yet? I can't believe after the pasting we've all given him at times over the last couple of years that nobody is willing to put themselves forward and reward his efforts.

Rd 4. Another very solid game on the weekend despite the fact that he was being moved around all over the place with the Spud-Brown matchup. Thought he was reasonable up forward although he's never going to be a natural I feel. That being the confidence he's gained by earning his place down back seems to have given him the kick he needed to be demanding up forward as well.

Also read a stat today in the Hun saying that he's the only Key Backman in the league without a goal kicked on him after 4 rounds. Considering the fact that one of his strengths seems to be leaving his direct opponent to chop out his teammates this seems even more impressive. I really think we need to appreciate how much his game has improve in the last year. Thoughts?

Edit: My Bad, can mods please merge with other thread :)

Lions;

Saw a replay of the game. Was reasonable up forward. Didn't get much of the football but provided important structure.

Geelong;

Similar to last weeks game, but he was very important today, slightly better up forward, and good in the ruck.

Thought he was a solid contirbutor. 6 goals in the first 20 minutes really set us up nicely.

Unfortunately dropped off as you would with 6 goals in a quarter. Still presented very well and played his heart our for arch. I still reckon harvey pipped him as BOG yesterday.

was absolutely positively brilliant yesterday just whenever the ball was kicked near him would take the mark, has been super up forward this year. i understand it was against the carlton defence but he really did dominate them, from the parts of the game i saw.
