Well Round 1 really showed that this year is going to be vastly different to last. How about Rovers pounding the Dennington dogs! The boys at South Rovers are going to be pretty tough to beat by the looks of things. The Power also knocking off Merrivale is a pretty fair effort. Poor East copped a flogging at the hands of Panmure and Id say they are in for a long year.

Round 2 and what a sensational effort by the Allansford Cats to hold of Merrivale and nearly score an impressive win at the Tigers Den! Rumour has it that a couple of dodgy free kicks were paid late to the Tigers. Can anyone confirm this?

East, must battle on and off the field, they seem to struggle with clearing footballers, if they want to go let them go...

I think its a case these days that all country clubs are really struggling for numbers. Most of the teams around here are scraping to get reserves sidse on the field so they are trying to keep clearances to a minimum. I my honest opinion tho, if you have a talk with them and you cannot convince them to stay then clearing them and the player leaving on good terms is the best way to go.

Yeah, I have heard Beardy might be setting himself for the game against East in a couple of weeks. They have got Allansford this week so will probably have a rest rather than risk it against them.

very good to see someone else with some common sense, the way i c it, is that if they go on good terms, more than likely to return on good terms, and prob bring a few with them, Who's not struggling to fill a side, as a reserve coach i know what its all about.....

Thing is, after a while it all turn around, and they will come flooding back if you look aftem them....

Like DaKing said, I think its a situation of shortage of players full stop. But I also agree that if they dont want to play for you, you are better off to wish them luck and have them leave on good terms. As you say, the wheel turns. Our policy is to simply meet with the player, if we cannot convince them to stay then we let them go.

kl-noorat, russells creek, south rovers, merrivale, panmure, timboon, allansford, dennington, deakin, old collegians, east, nirranda

i'd say the only certianties on the ladder will be the power and creek in the top three and south and vale will be top five. will be a huge fight for that 5 position on the ladder and the last spot in the finals. just hard to judge where panmure, timboon, allansfod and dennington are at because of who they have played this year.

for the medal;
-matt steele (allansford) (gets lots of posessions but doesnt use the ball well at all however umpiers dont give much consideration to that)
-jim whitehead (power) ( racks up lots positions and hard ball gets, silky skills, takes a great pack mark and never misses a target...one of the most complete players gettin round)
-for a few roughies...luke maddin & shane hutchins (power), tim ward (allansford), mark evens (rovers)

Looks like Creek have recruited well. Allansford could be anything. Timboon looking the goods and Rovers motoring along. Add Merrivale and Kolora in there and you have your top five with one side being very unlucky, missing out on August/September action. I suppose it will all come down to injuries.

Deakin will be there or there abouts and then the rest. As for the Medal - Mark Evans looked a class above the rest on Saturday. Steel for Allansford will be close.

As for Sharpy...yes he can play and is a top bloke and not a bad fisherman too boot.

Cheers

Don't no much about the district league but I'll have a crack at the ladder and top medal chances!
Kolora-Noorat, Merrivale, Russell Creek allansford South rovers, Timboon, Dennington, Panmure, Old collegians, Deakin, Niranda and east.
Medal!
Jamie whithead kolora-noorat seems to be in the best each week and gets a huge rap in the paper.
Jason Porter- getting a bit of age but racks up the hard ball gets and is a known vote getter.
Matt Steele- is named on ball so he plays right under the umpires watchful eyes and gets in the best most weeks.

Roughies
Mark Evans-rovers i watched a game of rovers last yr he got a heap of it just kicked it long tho mainly cause he had no forwards to spot up.
Sam Mahony- I am a south w'bool supporter we got his older brother in the under 18's and i have seen this kid play y isn't he in hampden.

You on the Allansford bandwagon now King? I was at the game on Saturday and feel that Kolora/Noorat will improve vastly as the year goes on. Seem to have quite a good team of footballers, but just didn't seem to play well as a team on weekend. I am sure with the inclusion of Mills, Madden, Reed, Mahony, Moloney?, and a fit Jason Hutchins, the team will still be a force come September. Also noticed that Beard went off injured in third quarter. Not sure how bad his injury is, but could influence where the Power's season is headed.

I seen panmure play last weekend and they were terrible. I no they have alot of injuries but i still think if you brought them in they would still not make finals. All there recruits were always on the sidelines injured last yr like heffernan had a bad hamstring and from all reports didnt get super fit over the pre season......maybe they thought district league would be a walk in the park for them!!!!! yeah i agree members thats what alot of people think about district league this year especially the league has without a doubt stepped up a level with 5 or 6 teams a real chance to win the flag compared to lastyearwhen really only 3 teams looked competible, and its not until you ve played with hampden and district where you can really compare leagues..

Is that true about his playing future??

Nah, he played very well last week against Rovers. Should be interesting games between Noorat/Timboon and Creek ! I reckon that will sort things out.

Yeah ill give ya that but the creek are gunna be up there this year too.. they also have a quality midfield an probably the 2 most dominant forwards in the league.. also rovers an allansford will be thereabouts.. allansford beat the power round 3! If i was a betting man i'd be on the power for this weeks bout with the timboon dees though!

Nah sorry texas, your a lone ranger on this one pal!! the best is bens brother matthew, absolute freak! then chris his older brother.. but the best moloney ive ever seen would have to e vinny moloney, tough as guts, he has glass on his corn flakes. dead set!! joel, jas and sam have got alot of improving to do if they want to get to their level

Xavier Moloney is the best out of the lot. Joel should be concentrating more on footy then hair product and young Jas needs to tuck into a few Kermonds to get the KG's on. Ben has a way to go, but will be good enough. Sam also goes well.

you will be eating your words by the end of the year mate. VIC Country U18 rep and one of the best players in the region in stoppages. He had one average game against power and you jump over him, it doesnt help when the whole team has a bad day!

On the beard issue, my sources say he is out for the year, he just keeping a lid on it. If he is out for the year you could almost say he is out for career. anyone know his age,

Is it true timboon have picked up a few gun players because they are working at Gas Plant? because i heard they will lose a few soon when Gas Plant puts off some workers.

Anyhow lads.. my tips for round 6 are

Timboon 30pts
South Rovers 25pts
Russells Creek 50pts
Deakin Uni 20pts
Old Collegians 40pts
Dennington 10pts

good luck to all playing this weekend.

Matho is way way past his used by date and should of done the team thing last year and resigned. why would Timboon still have him coach when you can get a half decent playing coach for the same price or even better a half decent non-playing coach. I dont no how the players respond to a bloke who runs around in the twos like headless chook.. Timboon are killin tho i must say so then again he could be a good coach.. Yes they are starting to look more like twins every day, with jase putting in the hard yards to catch up in the boys attempt to be the 1st brother to become completly bold. On feild Shane in show all his class across the half back line and looks to be in B&F form. Jase on the other hand is only showing glimpses of brilance and needs to start kicking his goals (2 goals 18points for the season i'm told). i just wonder whether his heart is really in it at the power or whether he'd rather be up there on the murray milking cows n having a kick for the mighty blues.??????
they both however have been tremendous pick ups for the club and are both vital cogs for the power in there quest for september action:thumbsu:
And as for there off feild displays...well what did u murrabit boys teach them last year. they love there water n wont touch a beer. looks like the antics of henry hein and pistol have rubbered of on them.:D

Hi again guys! Just reading the paper down my way and chatting to some wdfnl regulars on the weekend, looks like Timboon will be the side to beat this year. In regards to Timboon coach Matho, i'd say he is considered a non-playing coach, i've noticed he isn't playing two's so perhaps he has unofficially retired. It seems he has his players doing the rights things so its probably fair to say its worked out ok for Timboon by having a non-playing coach. It doesn't happen all that often in country football but the question looms, can a non-playing coach be of more benefit to a football team than a playing coach??

Well would you rather spend lets say 15-20 grand or whatever for a non-playing coach who can only tell the players what to do and have no physical influence on the game or have a player that can lead by example on the field and also be an asset on the field also may bring players to the club.. Timboon are a good footy side i cant imagine anything Matho is saying can have an influence on the way they are playing. blokes like clemo rylance waggy thompson and flem bucket are doin it!! imagine if Timboon went out recruiting and recruited a centre half forward as coach! instead of a two's half forward flanker! BUT i could be wrong!
