Just heard from the Cheer Squad that the Anti Cheer Squad trouble makers ..well the ones that they know are being singled out and are being made examples of - ie not wanted!!

I think this is a great call.

Seems security will also eject undesirables the moment any trouble breaks out

This seems to be a really HUGE topic down at Collingwood at the moment.

Good to see them standing by the real supporters and getting rid of the scum buckets!!!

Hey Butcher,

Your post have been funny in the past and have done their job in trolling collingwood.

But arnt you going a bit too far now. Your post and threads contain nothing but same old lines and abuse.

Have you got anything better to do? You seem to spend a lot of time on these boards.

What is your MAIN OBJECTIVE? To stain the club you go for? Dont you go for Collingwood?

It's getting boring now mate.

Back on topic - well part of the topic anyway - Cheersquads.........

Whether most general supporters realise it or not, Cheersquads are in essence the public face of a teams supporters. And more often than not they are the yardsticks by which supporters of other teams categorise or judge a teams supporter base.

For a number of years now some Cheersquads have been getting some not so favourable reputations due the actions of a minority of their members. With the media spotlight looking for any little indiscretion it can use to discredit or sensationalise any sort of incident, the behaviour of Cheersquad members is moving towards the forefront.

Personally I think that in the public view the 'family friendly' environment of cheersquads has waned into near non-existance. Whilst a number of clubs and cheersquads are actively seeking to rectify that, there will always be an element who see themselves as 'above' the other supporters, and 'more important' than a member who has chosen not to join the cheersquad of their given team.

Being in a cheersquad is more than sitting behind the goals at a game. It involves giving of your time and skills in any number of areas to support your club. When ppl start remembering they are in a cheersquad to give what they can to their club in different ways of support, rather than using their membership as a status symbol and a self postulating excercise, then Cheersquads will start getting a better wrap.

As for the Butchers comments about 'security' etc.........it is the same in every club. Every club has the right to vetoe or recind cheersquad membership of any member, every cheersquad has to follow the guidelines or be fined. If one or two cheersquad members at ANY club continually caused trouble, the same would happen to them. It is far from an exclusively Collingwood situation.

I think the Collingwood Anti cheer squad topic..is an important one and something that should be addressed..thus far a few members have tried to bury the threads and stop the momentum for their own reasons..ie i think the word is SHAME!

A few of us are quite concerned about the issues at hand for the average football goer who love their club...who shouldnt have to put up with trouble makers, people who hurl abuse at their own cheer squad and drink alcohol and think it is funny to cause trouble at games like throwing cans at players..not to mention violence and being ejected from the ground on countless times

These things are all topic worthy..and something that should be addressed

*Addressed by whom?
*Aren't cans now (and have been for some time) not available at the ground? so this is a historical reference that has no validity in todays game?
*It is a sad fact - but members of all clubs encounter similar problems at every game. That is what ground security is for, and that is why as human beings having the ability of movement and speech, can haul our butts out of our seats and alert the powers that be to the situation. Since when is something going to be fixed by someone sitting in their seat complaining to themselves?

I really don't understand why this is all being directed at Collingwood. It happens sooner or later at every club during every season.

I go to watch the game not the fans/supporters.

Frankly I couldnt give a **** as there is bad supporters out there going to games for every club.

Now the footy season has started a few posts about onfield stuff would go alright instead of boring off-field 'dramas'

SHAMEFUL!

For those wondering, the following quotes were attributed to Kerri Baptist on page 9 of the Melbourne Herald Sun on the 30th of March. This was in an article entitled Police turf out rebel Pie fans by reporter Michael Warner:

Official cheer squad president Kerri Baptist said the rebels were opposed to the cheer squads ban on offensive language and alcohol.

Ms. Baptist said she would meet Collingwood president Eddie McGuire next week to express her disappointment.

"It was absolutely disgusting. It's not on.

I ended up watching the crowd and not the game because I've got to be aware of what's going on. I can't have the cheer squad sitting under those conditions."

The actual quotes from Ms. Baptist do no explicity refer to the rebel cheersquad but clearly have been placed in that context by the reporter. Whether or not this is accurate reporting is another question and one that I am not in a position to answer.

the quotes clearly state there is trouble within the fan base at magpie land..the anti cheer squad are thugs..and the members on this forum know it..

the fact that they have been pin pointed and exposed is shameful even to them..especially when they make themselves out to be the lifeblood of the club..in the end all they are is an embaressment

the fact that eddie condones can throwing by mocking it on the footy show is just as disappointing..

I stand in the bay next to the 'unofficial' cheer squad or whatever you want to call them. 90% of the time their chants are fine, far more effective than the offical cheer squad in terms of generating noise.

Funny thing is security stands all around them and tends to laugh and joke with them, so sounds to me like people are making stuff up as if security don't have a problem I can't see why anyone else does.

And I repeat they never chanted about Abletts dad. No one I was with heard it.
