Most people have got the lions as the 'under dogs' for rd.2
I think it'll be close.

This is a tough match for both clubs.
Lions come off a 4 day break !!
Saints are off a 5 day break and must fly interstate to play in front of an hostile crowd.
Lions are without a "decent" ruckman and Saints may have 2 exceptional ruckman playing.
Both clubs have players who have yet to find their feet after extended injuries and it may be the management of these players that determines the structure of each side.
Both club play an uncompromising hard at the man, hard at the ball style and when in possession both teams tend to run in numbers as directly as possible and rely on their marking forwards.
The game should be a cracker.
I would favour the Saints at this point - due to:
1) Ruck supremacy
2) More mature bodies
3) More forward options
The Lions are not a rough chance of winning this - especially considering the Saints problems in defence.
They have rebuild their squad while they were top of the ladder - but many of the kids they acquired weren't good enough to force their way into the premiership / grand finalist side. Last year we saw some of what their kids are capable of - in a team absolutely devastated by injuries.
We Saints know how frustrating injuries can be.
The Lions had a horror year that made our problems seem mediocre by comparison. If they can hold it together with their squad sufferring just the normal amount of injuries, then they will be a force to be reckonned with.
...and much sooner than they can justly expect.

Our midfield is very good consisting of Black, Power, Lappin, Sherman.
Wood is proving himself in the ruck and doing an excellent job.
Our Defense is decent with Brennan Finnaly find Consistancy.
But our Forward Line is our Problem, Brown will most likely have 2 players on him at all times and we are without a decent full forward.
We have the Home Ground Advantage. The Saints Have a Terrible Record at the Gabba.
This Should be very Close match.

To quote Goldfinger 'I expect you to die'
On a more relevant note, there is never a clear favourite in football. Adelaide proved that the other night. Conditions, fitness and the turnaround will all be factors.
Bradshaw was a massive loss for you guys, and there's an even greater weight on Brown. I'm not sure even he's enough to carry it. If Riewoldt plays, your backline will be incredibly stretched. I'm not sure it'll be close, but it will be interesting
Lions come off a 4 day break after playing in Tassie !!
Wasn't that a home game for Brisbane at the Gabba? Looked like the Gabba on TV ...

Wow, I can't believe I went to Tassie on the weekend to watch that game.
Felt like a short trip, and man that stadium felt like being at the Gabba.

Um, no. I flew home from Tassie on Saturday so that I could be at the Gabba that night. Well, that's what I thought I did anyway...

dono about this "decent" ruckman business.. i gather charman isn't playing? but its beside the point, cam wood is a top notch ruckman and i'd be suprised if clarke beat him even tho the doc was exceptional last friday night

Cam Wood is still a kid. (A very big one ;) )
He will probably end up being a great ruckman, but I think it is premature to say that of him just yet. He will be up against it against Matty Clarke alone but if Gardy plays as well then I think he will struggle.
The coach has to look for areas that may be a weakness in the opponent.
This is one area where I would focus on to gain an advantage.
Knowing that - Matthews would probably be counterring this possible weakness in some manner - so my thoughts may be moot.

What about Mcdonald?
He's stil a dominate tap ruckman.

Dominant?
Is he?
Charman is your main ruck. He generally gets more gametime - and better stats.
Beau has had some hard luck with injuries and maintaining match fitness - so I probably haven't seen the best of him - but I still believe that Matthew Clarke would be first ruck if both of these players were in the same team (as they were in the past).

Can't wait for this one.
I really rate Brisbane's youngsters. They have a great future. The only thing potentially holding them back is another tall defender.
Unfortunately, I'm tipping there could be a blow out in our favour. Hopefully Riewoldt hits his straps straight away. If he does, I can only see Brisbane containing 2 of Riewoldt, Kosi and G-Train.
On the selection front, I'd like to see McQualter replaced by either Voss or Armitage. I know he's got leg speed and all that, but he's also got a touch of the Fiora's about him, in a bad way...

If you are doubting McQualter's courage then I think you haven't seen him play much. He doesn't flinch at contact, is a great tackler and is often used in a run-with role. I'd agree his skills need polishing, but he's brave enough. It's a make-or-break year for him this year, and I reckon he knows it.
And for what it's worth I don't think Fiora squibs it either. He's more outside than inside, but there's plenty of league footballers making a living in teams who are in the same boat. No player's going to get the option of not pulling his weight under Lyon; the physical aspects of the game appear to have been highlighted under the Lyon gameplan.

Definately a make-or-break year and I hope you're right :) Much easier to keep guys with pace and skills than it is to find them.
