Now, I love my cricket......

But lately, I've just lost all interest.

The Domestic season kicked off in Early - Mid October from memory and its ben non-stop since.

We're still going in this WC and this Super 8's thing is a money making farce.

So far October - April non-stop with no end in sight. Still that 20/20 WC rubbish to come.

Well go off and follow AFL (21 rounds + 4 finals to come), tiddlywinks or lawn bowls.

Yeah how craps this. Imagine watching teams compete in a World Cup...

Bring on more 7 match ODI series...

I'm a massive cricket fan, but this is blatant overkill. How the hell can there still be THREE WEEKS until the WC Final? It's ridiculous. The ICC are killing the game.

The best part of the Cricket year is about to start - the County Season and the English Summer.

Bring it on says I - preferably with many trophies for Warwickshire & Test match wins for England over the West Indies & India.

The timezone difference has been a massive factor in the enjoyment levels of the WC this year. That, and the fact the atmosphere is lacking with only a few thousand people getting to each game.

But I agree, there are just too many games, particularly in the Super 8 stage. I never thought I would ever say that.

It is definitely dragging on a bit and, as Warwick said, the time is a killer.

a very good think piece IMO - raises some pertinent issues

what's the point in playing in the WI if you take out the best part?

the carnivale-style crowd behaviour is what the world wanted to see but they've corporatized/sanitized the whole event and made it an underwhelming exercise

it really does seem to be dragging on zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

When this thread first started I was thinking this was just a bit of silly whinging - how could you not be pumped for the World Cup?

But I'm starting to agree. It's going so slowly that when I see a game I think 'Oh, that's right, there's a World Cup on'. There has been a bit of excitement about a few games, but most of them are fairly meaningless. I mean, the West Indies have lost 3 of their 4 games yet they are still in it. Also, as far as a spectacle goes, it's probably not ideal that two minnows made it past the first round.

Wake me when we get to the semis.

This World Cup is almost an unmitigated disaster. Exorbitant ticket prices, empty stadiums, inept ground staff, imperfect grounds, Pakistan and India missing the 2nd round due to a solitary slip-up, Woolmer's murder, and the Super Eights progressing forever have all contributed to a World Cup that has failed to inspire.

Why does it take 7 weeks to determine the ODI cricket champion? The soccer World Cup, which includes 32 teams, takes under 5 weeks. And soccer would take more out of a player than a game of cricket, yet the cricketers are sitting around twiddling their thumbs for a week waiting for another meaningless match. Why one match per day? Two per day would have reduced the length of this World Cup by almost two weeks.

The Super Eights system for the second round should never be used again at the CWC. 53 games over 7 weeks is overkill. I suggest a better system is two groups of 6 with top 4 going through to the quarter finals. This way, Pakistan and India (or anyone else) could still have suffered one shock loss but be able to atone for it and still finish top 4 in their group. And the current Super Eight system is just dragging on when everyone knew that Australia, Sri Lanka and New Zealand would make the semis, it was just a question of whether South Africa or West Indies would grab 4th, and we knew the answer to that a week ago at least. The semis will be Australia v South Africa and New Zealand v Sri Lanka but we have to plod along for another 2 mindless weeks to reach that point.

Quality over quantity (which this World Cup in not about).

Looks like Haydos agrees with me: http://www.theage.com.au/news/cricket/hayden-joins-list-of-tournament-critics/2007/04/10/1175971100266.html

I blame the ICC. Choose a valid World Cup format and stick to it. Keep the duration to 5 weeks max. More sudden death games (ie. quarter finals). No Super 6 or Super 8 stage.

It's amazing after one shock win, Ireland managed to play in the super 8's. The system is flawed and is going on forever. It's worth putting on the Ashes DVD to watch some good test cricket.

Will this thing never end?

Actually doing more damage to the image of the game IMO, ICC should be ashamed of their greed and the way this tournament has been run.

Hearing the spin Speed put on the WC last week was nausiating. Worst WC in history. Period.

the schedule is extremely long. Australia went 8 days without a game!! I don't see why they couldn't play two games at a time during this Super 8's like they did in the early rounds. Cut the whole thing down. It is dragging out I agree and not particularly a great endorsement of the game. I feel sorry for the players too waiting around between matches so long can be detrimental to your form and concentration

But they won't be and unfortunately this means the next WC will no doubt be another tedious, long winded affair, especially on the subcontinent.

Just far too many games, and too long between each one.

The conditions at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua also annoyed Matthew Hayden, who was unable to use a bowling machine because there was no electricity.
Complete and UTTER joke. Hope you're enjoying your money ICC.
