View Full Version : Punter wants to unleash the new 'Lillee and Thommo'
With Tait to partner Lee in tests he sees a fearsome combination emerging. Bad news for the other teams in world cricket who thought the retirements of McGrath and Warne might offer some hope.
What about Hilfenhaus though?

Hilfenhaus should play instead of a spin bowler against India and Sri Lanka. Get the curators to prepare some greentops

yep, spot on.
Give the Indians what they don't like. That's what 'home' tests are about. NZ do it better than anybody. (although it didn't work so well against Sri Lanka recently, not when the oppositions pace attack is better than yours)
Although Pathan plays pace as well as he does spin (which is expertly) so there's no stopping him but the others are pathetic on seaming wickets.

No way should Tait play with Lee in Tests. Our attack v India should be
Lee
Clark
Hilf
MacGill/ Johnson
Roy with his seam up/ off spin filth

Johnson's more erratic than Tait.
hence why he was dropped.
as always you make little to no sense Ted Ed.

Tait is brilliant in Pura Cup while Johnson has been mediocre until last year which was average.
Why should Johnson and MacGill get a go?
They won't trouble India the way Tait will
Can see them playing ODI together, but not tests.
FFS we need another Clark in the test team, not another bloody Lee. Especially with the loss of McGrath and Warne... where is the scoreboard pressure going to come from.
Hilfy is the man for the next test birth. If they want to include Tait then they should drop pretty boy Bollywood Lee.

Tait > Lee
But they'll never drop Lee. Against India though, with MacGill, Tait and Lee in, there's three guys who could potentially be very expensive which could be a worry.

Sequels are never as good as the original.

Being Thommo would be hard enough, but which one of them is going to be Lillee?

Hayden
Rogers / Hussey
Ponting [c]
Hussey / Hodge
Clarke
Symonds
Gilchrist
Lee
Clark
Hilfenhaus
Tait
12th Man: MacGill/Johnson
I'm happy with that lineup

Prior to his back injury on a West Indies tour, Lillee is probably the best fast bowler I've seen. Neither of them will be the next Lillee.
Sequels are never as good as the original.

I'm sorry but Lee >>>> Tait. Lee's ODI record speaks for itself, and Tait is far more expensive in tests than Lee is.

considering Tait has played two tests you can't compare test records.
In Pura Cup, they have similar records, with Tait slightly better however Tait has never got to bowl against South Australia.
However Tait and Lee aren't as similar as people think. Lee ain't a strike bowler, Tait is. We can fit both in the same side

yep, lets go off the test stats of someone who's played two.

Its just a shame Pathan has tuned into a pathetic bowler.

About as brave as bringing up Tait's Pura Cup record when comparing him to Lee in the longer form of the game. As soon as this WC is over and the next test is played, his bandwagon will be considerably lighter. Nice cheap shot though, N/T, did it make you feel good bringing a totally useless arguement to the table? How anyone can say Tait is better than Lee at this stage, is beyond me.

Lee is mediocre, it isn't really high praise.

There is a big difference. Both Lee and Tait have played more than 20 Pura Cup matches. 20 matches is enough to be able to tell if one bowler is superior to another.

with his grand total of three tests....

I thought reading skills were a given to post on an internet forum. Evidently not.
How anyone can say Tait is better than Lee at this stage, is beyond me.
It wouldn't take much.
I suggest you check a test series by series breakdown of Lee's performances over the last four or five years.
In a dominant team, his performances/record have been decidedly mediocore. That's inarguable fact.
Tait has dominated the Pura Cup, a competition who's teams comprise better quality batting strength than a few international sides.
Tait may turn out to be inferior, who knows?
but many educated cricket people are of the opinion that Lee is an average test bowler. Facts befriend this opinion.
many would consider Tait to be a better option, considering the time Lee's had to establish himself and his generally dissapointing returns.
Being Thommo would be hard enough, but which one of them is going to be Lillee?
Exactly.
This is as stupid as those comparing Mike Hussey to Donald Bradman.
Closer to "Holdsworth and Muller" than "Lillee and Thommo".
