Looks like South Africa is hoping England makes the semis.
Does Kallis have enough overs left to make a 50?
kallis to make a gutsy 100 in difficult conditions, followed by a verbal tirade by BF posters calling him selfish

And ANOTHER dropped catch. Gibbs this time. The difference between the two teams fighting efforts has been like night and day.
Edit: Had to leave that typo there cause I found it amusing. I obviously meant 'fielding'. I get dyslexic when I'm sleepy.

They're making us look like a ripping fielding side.
NZ should be safe unless SA pull a few quick wickets.
4.3 rpo required.

Pollock strikes. A little too late though you'd think. Need another one right away to shake up NZ.
The toss went a long way to deciding the outcome to this one. Pitch conditions were vastly different for the two teams.
First 15 overs for SA were nightmare conditions, made worse by facing blokes like Shane Bond.
SA had their chances though and if they had held their catches... that Boucher drop was embarrassing. Gibbs also increased his level of difficult trying to perform an in air cartwheel during his drop. Not necessary and deserved to drop it.

Gibbs didn't drop the World Cup again did he? :)
Surely he would've learnt wouldn't he.
More discipline required from the NUMBER ONE team in the world.

Number two actually, and by a long way now.
South Africa cannot regain the #1 spot from Australia at this World Cup unless Australia loses their next 3 matches and South Africa make the final.

England, if trends continue.
I didn't watch much of the game but am dying to know about this famous drop of Boucher's. Can someone fill me in please?

Barring a miracle, the 4th spot will be either England or South Africa.
SA has one game left - England
England has two games left - South Africa and West Indies
Australia still has to play NZ and SL so we have not secured top spot yet.

Be funny if England beat South Africa but then get pummelled by the West Indies.

I wasn't having a go at you. It was merely a commentary on the ridiculousness of the ICC. For the record, I didn't see the drop and I would really like to search for it on YouTube.

It would also be funny if the Eng/SA match is a tie, and then England beat the West Indies.
England have the better run rate so even a loss to WI would probably see them through.
Basically, whoever wins SA v Eng will make the semis!
Yeah I think toss was a big part of it, cloud cover, a few damp spot, difficult early, then the sun came out. Fleming did well to win the toss.
Kallis basically said that when they lost the toss it was a foregone conclusion that they would lose.
Kallis blames conditions for SA loss
Posted on Sunday, April 15, 2007 - 05:36
South African vice-captain Jacques Kallis blamed the unpredictable Caribbean weather for his team's defeat by New Zealand in a World Cup Super Eights match on Saturday.
New Zealand restricted South Africa to 193 for seven and replied with 196 with five wickets and 10 balls to spare.
Kallis felt the result was almost a forgone conclusion when New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming won the toss and opted to field after early showers and overcast skies made the batting conditions challenging in the morning.
"It's frustrating when the conditions play such a big role in the game, the toss was vital," Kallis told a news conference.
"In the first 20 overs it was a green test wicket and the guys did well to stick in there as well as we did and get a total we could bowl at."
The cloud cover dissipated and circumstances were better for batting during New Zealand's innings.
However, South Africa did not help their cause by dropping four catches.
"Who knows, if we had hung on to one or two chances maybe we could have been in a different position," Kallis said.
"Credit needs to be given to the bowlers for putting in a performance like that on what was a different wicket in the afternoon."
Kallis brushed off suggestions that the team was inconsistent even though South Africa had scored their highest World Cup tally -- 356 for four against West Indies -- at the same venue just four days ago.
"Not at all, I think it's inconsistency in the wicket," he said in reply to a question. "There's no way we would have got 350 on that wicket this morning.
"If we had managed to sneak in another 10 or 15 runs it might have made it more difficult for New Zealand and anyway it did go down to the last few overs."
Saturday's result means South Africa must beat England in their final Super Eights match in Barbados on Tuesday to reach the semis.
"It (the England match) was always a must-win game for us, it just becomes more must-win now," Kallis said.
The seven-week World Cup culminates with the final in Barbados on April 28.

Just to make things clear, the operative word in my post was pummelled.

Agree, although I think one day cricket recently has too often hinged on the toss outcome. I thought by definition it should give a roughly equal chance to whoever bats or bowls first. I noticed this trend in the Champions Trophy as well where dew, early life etc. came strongly into play. Surely over the course of one day they can provide equal conditions.
Or are the starts too early?
That's one thing that could scupper us if we have to bat first under gloomy skies with the ball swinging everywhere only for it to dry out later on. With the cut-throat nature of finals it's a scary prospect.
And Fleming gets it right. Significantly nobody watching again! Does anyone in the WI follow cricket?
