Why isn't Richard Chee Quee playing for Australia? Is it cause our selectors are racist or is it cause he lacks talent? Intresting question indeed.

Another intresting question also is why isn't there a coloured person playing cricket for Australia?

Maybe because he is about 38 years of age and has not played for NSW in about 6 years.

This is quite possibly the most ridiculous statement I have ever come across.
Who the hell is Richard Chee- Chee anyway?
Has a non-white ever donned the Baggy Green?

Yep, I'm pretty sure that the first ever Australian team to tour England was made up souly by Aboriginies.
Although I could be wrong.
Indeed you are correct MetalGrind.
The first international touring side to England was composed entirely of Aboriginals (I believe sometime in the mid-1860's).
I think the 'qualification' for that tour that all tourists were to be of Aboriginal extraction. The question, however was whether there has been a non-white member of a full Australian international side.
On the note of Aboriginal tours - I think there was a second tour of England during the late 80's. If I remember correctly - I think one of the Ella brothers was involved on the organisational side.
I can think of quite a few example from the Australian Rugby Union side (Willie O, Gregan, Ella, numerous ex-Fijians) but no Cricketers! Anyone any thoughts? I remember reading an old Ozzie cricket anthology about a quick bowler, during the 40- 50's I think, however I think his performances were confined to country XI's - wish I could remember his name....
Is Sport a cultural issue in Australia - ie. would Union, League, or 'Footie' be favoured above Cricket?

I meant in Australian cricket.
I have seen millions of Pura Cup/Shield Games in my lifetime and have never seen an Aboriginal player in any lineup.
I am not against the idea, but I am against putting a coloured player in the side just to please the politicians (sorry South Africa).
Name me one current Aboriginal player who is good enough to wear the Baggy Green.
Yeah I think the South African government should pass a law requiring two Aborigines in the starting XI of the Australian team.
Would solve all of Australia's social ills.

I've read somewhere Jason Gillespie is of Aboriginal, or at least part Aboriginal descent.
I don't think it is a racial issue at all, I just think most Aboriginals prefer the Football codes (AFL, Rugby, not soccer) to cricket.

I could have sworn Andrew Symonds also is of aboriginal decent.
The good thing here in Australia is that players are picked purely on merrit and if someone, anyone for that matter starts making runs and deserves to play for Australia, he is given a chance!!
"We'll be right back with another post in just a few moments, and I look forward to your company then!!" :D:D
Cheers!! :)

Yeah, he and Andrew Mcleod won that prize (South Australian or australian aboriginal sports person award or something along those lines). One of his grandfathers was aboriginal.

And more importantly: do you pronounce it chee-ky??
Gillespe is part aboriginal but was quoted when he first made it into the SA team that he did not want it to be mentioned as an issue because talent should be the only consideration.
I have a feeling that there has been an aboriginal player wear the baggy green back before WW1 but I don't have my books on me in Europe.

Was Richard Chee Quee that fella in the late eighties with a mean mullet, precursor to Billy Six-Killer out of the "Renegade"?
Did he play for NSW?
Richard Chee Quee played for NSW a few years back. A big exciting batsman. Never really did much so it was back to grade cricket.
He won the O'Reilly medal for best 1st grade cricketer in Sydney this season just ended.
If memory serves his ethnic background is part Chinese, part Fijian and part Irish or something.
Biggest claim to fame being the lead singer of the marvellous band Six and Out.

Hard to see him get a game for Australia if he isn't even a current member in the NSW Blues team. Talent Issue only.

Darn. Chee-ky sounds so much better.

stupid implication that chee quee is not in the aussie side because he is asian. i used to love to watch him in the domestic one-dayers when he was on song. he sure could thrash the bowlers around. he was never ever going to play for australia. just like slater will never play again for us (and last i knew, slater wasn't asian).

Rocco is taking the pi$$ - am I the only one who sees that?

"Gillespie being classed as aboriginal is like saying Herschelle Gibbs is black. Doesn't work".
That could be pretty offensive to both those players. We don't know what race they see themselves as.part of.

We're in the presence of idiots mate, as much as I hate to say it.
It must be race issues. He was a swash-buckling batsman just like Gilchrist. Shoulda picked Chee Quee before him.

I am seriously amazed this post in up near the top.
Of course I am not taking the piss, I actually reckon Richard Chee Quee should replace Steve Waugh as our test captain.
