Admittedly it probably doesn't take much to outcoach Laidley, but I thought Clarksons ploy after half time was just superb.

Moving our 'playmakers' in Mitchell and Crawford outside the pack, leaving the likes of Hodge and Lewis to feed the ball to them was the key move that saw us put on the points in the 3rd and 4th quarters, finally stifling the Roos horrible flood of the first half.

Good stuff, Clarkson.

He did well today.

I just hate that it takes after quarter or half time and a reitteration of to back your self before we do something. I would love to see us back our self from the get go!

it took a half for it to happen.

Untill then laidley - though VERY ugly was on top.

Good move, could have happened earlier but we have the benefit of hindsight. Happy with his coaching over the last two weeks. Like the players, he makes some mistakes but is definitely improving.

I think in the end it was leg speed, endeavour and execution that got us over the line.

In fairness being outcoached by Laidley is akin to finding a supporter with a full set of teeth at a Richmond game ;)

Dim in a dozen...

If Laidley had any decency he would resign, now.

1) Told us at end 2006 season that North would play an exciting brand of football, not the dour, dull, lifeless muck he served up during 2006. Hello Dean, nothing has changed...... more boring football from your lot. Why do think they introduced a "no pass out" policy at Telstra Dome, something had to be done to stop the stadium emptying by quarter time in a North match.

2) Got his team back training just after the Grand Final bell saying he wanted his team to be the fittest after realising they werent during 2006. Hello Dean, not much evidence of run, run, run, run... till we dropped. David Hale (or whatever North numnut) 2mins out 4th quarter, down by 13 points looked like he was a desert island waiting for his drink to arrive before deciding to go back and turn around and finally take his kick.

Laidley, finally admit what you obviously realise yourself, you cannot coach. The only true course of action is to acknowledge your plans for an exciting game plan and fitness campaign have failed. Do the football world a favour and resign.

Clarkson like last week took 1-2 quarters to get the game on our terms.

Early on we let the roos have a spare man (petrie/pratt/brown) in defence and we had jacobs. WHY? The roos play much better with a spare man in defence. They have no tall/quality/dominant fowards to drop in front of. By bottling it up they stopped the way we were going to win the game, by running to roos off their legs. It took a half of footy to get rid of the loose man in defence. Alarm bells should have been going on in Clarkos head about 20 mins into the first quarter when it was 8 points to 9.

Hodge was getting dragged out of the play and he took over a quarter to move him in the centre/play.

that's a bit harsh Rusty...i watched the kangas first 2 games and they did play extremely well...should've beaten the pies and almost deserved to beat port last week! laidley's game plan against us almost worked (luckily AC made the right changes in time...watch other teams employ the same). Also the Roos came off an interstate trip which is also taxing! Having said that, Laidley won't be there next year unless the miraculous happens and they win more than 8 games!!

Clarkson showe d that hes developed as a coach and that hes much more strategic then the other coaches. Ladley proved that hes style of coaches in learning under Malthouse is all wrong for the modern football and that CLakrons style and getting MBA educations shows that to be a master coach of the modern game you need to do both working and education aprenticeships. I cant believe that in just 2 years in being in charge hes already got us into challenging for finals. We are very luck that weve got Jason Dunstall to thank for hiring us Clarko and then personally making sure that we reviewed him again to make sure that hes the best coach for us. May be we rsign him now for another couple of years before he gets to expenseive and demands more money when we start playing finals.

Clarkson did well and adjusted to things that didn't work. We also play well with a spare in defense, and in the end it was Kangaroos wanting to play defensively and us wanting to attack that shifted in our favour in the third and fourth quarters.
