View Full Version : Round 4: Carlton V West Coast
Should be an okay game. Not expecting to win but we did give them a run for there money last time. Id say a good effort would be a lose between 10-25 points.
Your Thoughts?????

i saw a Interview with one of the west coast players who watched the Carlton V Essendon Game
i think they be more wary of us then we are of them
theres certainly won;t be one sided game
by the End of the Day everyone will have a loss to the loss colum :)
blues to win by 4-5 goals

I am really looking forward to this game. It will be a great test. Hopefully the Blues faithful in Perth get down to Subi and make some noise!!!
I don't expect us to win but in saying that I think we will upset a few sides that aren't expecting it. If it was to be this game then it would be MASSIVE!!!
As long as they give it their all. That's all I wanna see :D
Key match-ups?
Initially I thought Russell on Judd but I think he will be more suited to Kerr. Walker on Judd.

blues to win by 4-5 goalsif carlton beats WC by that much in perth, i will eat my hat.
Good luck for this week blues fans, last year I remember on the way to the game we passed a bus full of blues supporters in our own bus with my eagles mates, we had a competition with them at the traffic lights to see who could sing their clubs song louder, good fun :D
And thank you so much for beating those Essenscum bastards this week.

I was in Perth last year when Carlton played Fremantle, and damn did those Carlton supporters make some noise. They are a terrific bunch of poeple over in the West, and if Carlton are a chance of winning in the last quarter, they'll be making a shyte load of noise. :thumbsu:

The Eagles supporters are loud, but when you have got that many jammed into Subi, of course they are going to make some noise. However, i'm almost certain those Carlton fans that attend the game will be making a fair bit of noise themselves.

Can we not go ferral if we lose this one
Can we not start a lets drop Houlihan and Scotland thread
Can we not start a lets sack the coach for not dropping players after one bad game
West Coast by 7 goals is realistic. They have improved by as much as we have since the last time we played

couldn't agree more. while i will be dissapointed if we lose, as long as we dont play like we did against geelong i will be happy. these blokes, despite the off-field dramas are IT. the real deal, number one, top dogs ah.... eagles at the moment. if we play like we did last year it would be super. the best part of this week unlike last week is that no-one expects us to win. we had a slight hope against the dons and lo and behold we won it. but this week we are definate under-dogs....... Blues.

Shouldn't you expect to win every game you play?
I think Carlton can give the Eagles a real run for their money, I remember the corresponding game from last year, very unlucky guys.
And yes it always gets me when Freo play Carlton at Subi just how loud the Blues fans are there, you guys get on top early all you'll hear are Carlton chants, bloody fanatics!
Blues by 7 points with Fev to kick 10 :D

Oh I don't know , we both have a new peice of silverware, so we are even in that regard. They have some recognised guns, ours aren't understood yet. Gibbs and Murphs class and brilliance varies from the weagles flash and flair.
Gibbs and Murph have the same ability to rip a game apart with not speed, but intelligent play.
Fevola has shown himself to be the best full forward in the competition, putting to bed the question forever of weather Lloyd is a blouse.
Big Kennedy will completely dominate this week as he gets moved from being a foil to fullfilling the prophecy.
Blues by 7 points.

Its a sellout crowd for the blues supporters in Perth. My dad couldn't even get a ticket. I have a game that day anyway but my little bro is playing at half time so at least he gets to watch and dad is hopefully going to be a helper so he might get to see it.
Will be a close game. Gave the Weagles a run for their money last year, and this year they've got no Cousins (drug problems you know) so will definitely be winnable as we have improved so much and Eagles are no better than last year. Wish I could be there to cheer them on but sadly I can't so I have to watch it at home.

Russell is definitely a good matchup as well. Russell is extremely fast over 100m, and has height and strength. Attacks the ball very hard this year. It's amazing the transformation he has made over 12 months. Used to be lacking confidence and a bit soft. Nowdays he's aggressive, vocal and confident and is clearly enjoying his footy. Walker is another obvious matchup, but Denis seems to be using Walker in more attacking roles. :)

completely agree. i think the issue with him being traded to port last year is a direct cause of his new found confidence. i think that, when he saw how badly carlton tried to keep him and not trade him, he felt wanted, and his confidence has soured as a result. carlton's desperation to not trade him led to him feeling wanted, needed, and important to the club - done wonders for his confidence

Imagine the impact a great game on Judd would have on his confidence.
Could be one of those defining moments in a players career this week if he is given a crack.

Thanks

that's going a bit far, but I do think we have improved more than them. In fact, we have improved more than any other team.
last year we got a standing ovation when we left the ground. I hope we can turn that around and have things hurled at us in disgust because we burried their beloved eagles.
carlton to lose by 21 points.
sorry, it is just my realistic assessment.

I am really looking forward to this game :) you guys are playing a better style of footy and also have a lot more self belief which can make you dangerous.
My biggest worry is Fev (no disrespect to anyone else in your team), his form last week was nothing short of outstanding!!! when he is on he is DEFINITELY on!!! I am just hoping that Glass can hold him....for once :o
Good luck for the game, but because the game is at Subi I am going for the Eagles by 2 goals :D
I have a feeling most of the football world want the young Blues to knock off the Weagles after their ugly culture has been exposed. I'm amazed at how lenient the AFL have been. Can you think of any other sport, where a player caught on tape making drug deals with a criminal would not get a several year or lifetime ban? Not only is Kerr still playing, he hasn't been fined a penny. It's just amazing. :)
We can win, as long as we don't let them jump us like Geelong and Essendon did.
If we can be there abouts in the first half we can give them a real run for their money.
Our forward line has the potential to beat their backline, and our backline can contain Lynch and co I'd suspect.
We just have to hope our young midfield led by Stevens holds their own as well and comes close to beating theirs or at least negating their midfield goal scoring.
The only place we will most likely get smashed is the ruck.
GO BLUES
If we're there abouts first half, Blues by 9, else Weagles by 24
I think this could be the week to bring in a bit more pace. West Coast are just so quick and fit in the midfield, I reckon our young guys might not be able to go with them for 100 minutes even though we match up pretty well (kind of like what happened last year), especially on their home ground.
Maybe drop Cloke, and use Ackland in the ruck (then pushing forward) and Whitnall as an on-baller again. Maybe drop Kennedy as well to find some form this week, and bring in Blackwell and Bannister, or maybe Grigg if he's up to it.
Just a hunch, but my feeling is we match them, maybe even get a shock lead for a bit, but run out of steam in the last quarter. Some fresh legs might just even it up a bit...

Be more interesting if this game were played in Victoria, instead of Subi - to see how they go against us at our home, instead of theirs.
Home ground advantage, i'll say Weagles by a few points.
Great game all around!:thumbsu: Come on blues.
Blues have the legs, we have shown this time and again, I really think we are one of the fittest teams going around.
The Eagles are several classes above us. They are much faster and have silky delivery.
We have a great ability to use the ball well (sounds odd dosent it) but its true. This has come from Ratts, Braddles, Murph, Gibbs, etc. We also have more pressure than the Weagles. If we man up and play accountable footy we may be able to slug it out with them. The score line against Essendon was 240 -250 points. If we were kicking straight we would have been 150.
I think we can go with them.
The real worry is the week after....we are gone.
Should be a really good game, can't wait too see how it turns out.
Carlton finished really well in the second half against a very tired essenscum side (and I think every west coast fan would want to thank Carlton for that) and have shown they have the fitness to run out a game despite their poor start.
However I do believe West Coast's new defense structure will stop Fevola from having such a big affect on the game.
We we're in strange form last year against carlton (the nail biting come-from-behind stage of the season), I think our form is much better at the moment and the result could easily be the Eagles by 10 goals.

I'm sure I'll get called arrogant for this but the Eagles have won 14 games, and lost 1, to victorian teams at Subi since 2005, when we made the trasition from top 8 team to top 4 team.
Also, in that time, we've gone 25-5 at Subi. As a result I doubt we'll lose but I'm looking forward to seeing how Glass handles a red hot Fevola and how your young guys are travelling.
Good luck with the game and all. Lets hope for no injuries and an entertaining match.

With Stevens out it makes a tough task almost impossible......but maybe your guys will relax because he is out and we jump you again....this time we will run the game out......fingers crossed for no injuries and a result under 3 goals,:thumbsu:

True, I'm obviously hoping we don't get jumped, and after what you guys did last week I'd be disappointed if we were, but we've taken you lightly before, after we played poorly against Geelong, so it could happen again.
As for Stevens, it might be a blessing in disguise. Plenty of young guys on your list who could make something from extra responsibility.

B:Thorton Livingston Scotland
HB: Bannister Whitnall Teague
C: Simpson Mcgrath Stevens
HF: Lappin Koutoufides Houlihan
F: Betts Fevola Wiggins
R: French Walker Murphy
Int: Russell Kennedy Prendergast Bentick
Emg: Blackwell Carrazzo Sporn
i think somehow we have a better and mature team than last year. even with stevo out and kouta out.
I honestly don't think Stevens being out will affect us much - this week...
Stevens, as we have all debated, lacks accountability in his game. Thats fine most weeks - he takes a gamble on getting more of the football than his opponent and his ability to use it better than his opponent, and most times he wins that gamble.
But against West Coast? Their mids just get so much of the ball and use it so well, that if they prepare well for him... a matchup like Selwood or Embley on Stevens really hurts us, I reckon. Getting someone more defensive in there might work better IMO. That's how Sydney have matched up so well with the Eagles in the past - shutting the game down, then winning the ball at stoppages. Keys for us are clearly going to be Bentick, Walker, Carazzo, Murphy and whoever replaces Stevens (I'm assuming Blackwell on form, or Bannister as an extra defensive mid).

If he had done something illegal, your question might well have some substance.
No surprise that it hasn't.
Eagles will not take the Blues lightly, particularly not in view of the game at Subi last year and your superb comeback against the Bombers last week (thanks for that).
While you do need to be mindful of Kerr and Judd, don't make the mistake of thinking that if you stop them, you've got the game won. The derby showed the value of our second stringers and emerging players like Rosa, Staker, Hurn, Priddis etc.
Looking forward to the game. Eagles by 4 goals.
