Watching all 3 of the Cats games so far, I have hardly seen either of these two classy forwards spend any time at all up there. I realise they've had shots at goal but these are more from drifting forward than the crumbing goals they used to gather.

Both must have worked extremely hard on their fitness over the summer to be able to run out games in the midfield now and I believe their presence in the middle is a massive reason for our excellent start.

Will we see Gary or Chappy in the forward pocket again?

I think the answer is no.

Now, if only Chappy can find his kicking boot then the Cats will be 2 goals a game better off. :)

I love seeing them in the middle, they're both creative, intelligent, classy footballers. Plus midfielders get more Brownlow votes:thumbsu: :D

Too good to be tucked away in a pocket. Gotta use their skills to advantage.

Forward Flankers/Midfielders.

They offer up some creativity in the forward line and run and skill in the middle

Agree absolutely chapmanmagic (and I'd almost say the same about Mooney). Ideally, I'd have SJ playing as the permanent small forward, with Stokes, Chapman and Gazza rotating through the midfield and forward line. Bomber seems to have the same idea, has Varcoe playing forward and Byrnes spending time forward and in the middle.

Nice to have some midfielders that can kick goals too in Chappy, Gaz and Prismall. Selwood looks like he can kick a couple a game too as long as Mooney doesn't mark them on the line ;)

Yeh it has been a good move. Gazza's disposals have been poor of late especially against Melbourne but hopefully it was just a odd bad game or two.

I personally think they're both too valuable in either roles to use them in either forementioned role on a full-time basis.

Basically, whilst you could certainly make a case for them in the midfield (the creativeness, skills, hardness etc), you could almost certainly make a similar (if not equivalent) case for them spending a good proportion of games (pending match-ups and form) up forward as well as per the past (the goalkicking nous, pressure, presentation, play reading, and general rep as the best small foward-duo in the land etc).

I agree, they are both our best small forwards, in that they not only kick goals but also create goals with their vision, tackling, pressure etc..but this also applies to their midfield work also.
Fortunately we have Stokes (who will become a gun and quite possibly as good as them ), thus enabling us to rotate them through the midfield and still keeping 2 quality smalls in the forward line, which is essential now that we have finally got 3 good talls up there. A Good problem to have don't you think.

Way too early to determine whether Stokes will be as good as Gaz or Chappy. Even so, I think we can afford to leave them in the midfield, we've got Varcoe and Stokes to develop, SJ to come back in and even Byrnes that we can use up forward.

You right it is to early to determine its just I think he could well be.
But you would have to agree that at this stage he is ahead of Varcoe and Byrnes.

Don't forget Djerkurra. Has a big future too.

Chapman's best spot is definitely in the midfield IMO. Love watching him play, tough, skillful and loves it in close :) :thumbsu:

Yep, ahead of Byrnes and Varcoe. Varcoe is a different type of small forward though and he does what he does better than Stokes does what Varcoe does. And vice versa, make sense? ;)

Yes and No :eek:,but I maintain that at this stage Stokes does what he does better than Varcoe does and does what Varcoe does better than he does. :D:D Therefore Stokes does it better, get it. ;) ;)

Yup, totally, which is why I agree that he is ahead of Byrnes and Varcoe when it comes to our best 22 :)

Varcoe will be a very good player but he might be 1 or 2 years away yet, I liken him to Leon Davis who is only just showing how damaging those explosive types can be.Having said that,Varcoe will be a much better player than Davis, got a lot more tricks to him.
Djerrkura also will be an explosive game breaking addition to the team later in the season. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Before the season I was a bit unsure about them as midfielders........I'm not anymore. I'm now totally convinced. They're both courageous, tough, but more importantly brilliant with disposal by hand or foot. And they're also both quicker than our normal onballers (Corey, Bartel, Ling even!). I'd say the good results over the last 2 weeks are due in no small part to these guys both playing great games on the ball 2 weeks running.

They will still wander forward from time to time, but I'm rapt the way both have stepped up. Hopefully it continues.

I hope so too, great to see them pick it up around clearances and then be able to shrug off or ride a couple of tackles before getting a decent disposal away :) Gaz especially is so hard to take down :)
