I think we all know what Selwood said to him. Would be a disgrace if Headland got any weeks for this.

Saying something about someones child is very bad, but violence is never the answer, you should use your words, thats why i will not vote

No
So your saying because somebody mouthed off at him, it means that he can start hitting people and get away with it
On SEN this morning, the accusation is that Selwood called Headland's little 6yo girl a S___. If that is the case, I challenge any father to not react in an angry and violent way!!!

I would agree if it was in the street or somebody's house
but a western derby ?
players need to have some level of mental toughness, quite sure that Chick, Cousins ect all cop quite a bit each week from taggers like selwood, baker, copeland, carr's ect and don't put them in the same situation as des has put himself in.

What a weak prick.....
About as pathetic as saying something about someone's race and/or religion.

So what youre saying is that anything goes in a "Western Derby"??? That comment is ridiculous!!!

If he really said what he said then yes.
I have a two year old daughter, and if anyone was to call her a ****, I punch the absolute shit out of them.
Every father I know would do the same thing.

No. Nothing justifies hitting another player in this day and age. Hope he gets weeks, Selwood done a great job made Dessie totally lose the plot. Doesn't matter what he said (unless it was racist). I 've heard worse things said than that on a footy field, and only the mentally weak people lash out. If the AFL fine or sanction Selwood they better do the same for Hedland, because threatning to kill someone is far worse than calling some ones daughter a s###. Your a big girls blouse Hedland, and I hope Woosha puts Adam on you in next derby aswell.

I'd be thoroughly disappointed if that's what Selwood actually said, however Headland should learn not to react so harshly. He should've done nothing and taken it up with the AFL instead of heading to the tribunal. Obviously it's not nice having things like that said about loved ones but if you fire up like Des did, then you're playing right into the other person's hands. People need to learn to be stronger than that.

Oh, realistically, he should be smart enough to know that Selwood doesn't KNOW his kid...
It's a bit like when someone talks about how he slept with your mum last night - You know damn well he didn't, so what's the point in getting angry about it?

Yep i agree, Selwood shouldn't have said what he allegedly said, but at the end of the day it's just another sledge. It was designed to put him off his game, and it worked probably a lot better than Selwood expected. Headland now has to face the tribunal for a striking charge and his death threat to Selwood will be looked at as well.
The two things that should be off limits for sledges are kids and serious illnesses (like when Montgomery made an idiot of himself sledging Rama.).
Everything else is fair game IMO (including race and religion, that's just people being thin skinned about them being part of a group of hundreds of thousands or millions).

I think we all know what Selwood said to him. Would be a disgrace if Headland got any weeks for this.No we dont, that is why this poll is dumb. I have heard two different versions, both suposedly directly from Headland himself.
If Headland gets away with this by making shit up about what Selwood said (lets face it its Headlands word against Selwood, and Headland is the one in trouble), watch what happens.
Every bloke who decides to punch on during a game will use the Dessy Headland excuse. "I was justified cause he said something mean about my family." Please, are you the same people who are whinging about the game going soft?

And I don't recall any of them backing Kerry up when he whacked a guy who insulted his sister in the off season?

I know the guy who got beaten up, he's a total ****wit and deserved a beating regardless of what he said.

If it's true then it gives everyone an insight into Selwood's character.
I'm completely amazed that someone could even think to say something like that to a six year old girl, it boggles the mind that someone's brain could even work like that.

I voted no as i dont think he deserved to be punched. Des will pay the price and Selwood will be playing next week, thats why he didnt deserve it. If it was in a pub then yes he would deserve it.

Didnt Kerr go and get his Dad to hold the kid down and then break his nose? Also didnt they break the nose of the wrong kid? Cant really draw the same comparisons here.

He isnt spot on, someones race should never ever be used as a sledge.

What Selwood did was pathetic and an absolute disgrace and pretty symbolic of the current Weagles player group. The Weagles have an ugly culture, ugly attitude, endemic drug abuse, and crime links. How much longer can the AFL turn a blind-eye to this regional franchise disaster. No wonder Judd wants to get out of the place. :)

It didn't get much better during the medal acceptances either. Did we witness the ugly effects of longterm contraband abuse....?

Thin skinned. I have a young son, not a daughter, but if I was having an argument with someone from a rival firm (the closest analogy I can come up with), I'd take him calling me a white maggot as a laugh. If they said something like Selwood did I'd deck them. Few parents wouldn't.
I'd be interested to see the breakdown of yes/no's to this poll versus those who have kids. I can't imagine too many no votes (except a few WC fans) amongst those who do.

No.
Who cares what is said to you, it was quite obviously an attempt to sledge. I can't beleive Des has gone off like this you need to take these things with a grain of salt. I once told a player I dug up his dead mum and bent her over the tomb stone, the guy just smiled and the next time I was on the bottom of the pack he used my head to help himself off the ground. I got told last week by another player that he ploughed my misses and gave her AIDS, I laughed and got on with the game.
Suck it up Des and get over it.

It was reported that Selwood said " I fukced her last night" indicating the tatoo. Headland allegedly replied with " what? that's my 6 year old daughter" to which Selwood the allegedly replied, "yeah, she's a ****".
If someone said that to me about my daughter I'd do more than just whack him a couple of times.

I think everyone is missing the point this was during a football game not out on the street. It's called sledging, do people really think Selwood thinks Des's daughter is a slu*, of course not. It's just something you say to get in there head. Are you going to stop players saying things about other players wives, mothers, girlfriends, grandmothers, etc.
We need to toughen up people, they are just words. Am I the only one that was bullied at school, that experience is supposed to prepare us for this sort of thing.

Put like that, it makes it a bit of a no no, but I voted yes.
He did deserve it.
Now please stop posting so many topics about it!!
