View Full Version : Rucci on Bassett - humble pie?

Rucci wrote after the Essendon loss that sides have worked out our game plan and have also worked out Nathan Bassett.
Given Bassett has been sensational in the last two weeks and has been our most consistent player for two seasons plus, will Mr Rucci be saying he made a huge mistake in his rush to take a pot-shot at the Crows and in particular Bassett.
Bassett is the master of leaving his player and helping out at the contest. Occasionally he will get burnt by his opponent getting a goal (see Johnson’s first goal last week) but that is more than compensated for by the goals he saves and the drive he gives us out of the backline.
Bassett is an All Australian defender and would be close to the first person picked in the team each week. Mr Rucci needs to admit he wrote a load of rubbish however I won’t hold my breath.
In my view a good example of Rucci’s bias and inability to provide in depth comment because of it.

Well said, but we know the chances of Rucci conceding he was wrong are very remote. Just like he didnt have a go at the 10000 Port members who didnt show to the game. He preferred to blame Neil Craig. What a toss bag.

Just a question. Why is this thread titled "Rucci on Bassett ...." rather than "A Jarman on Bassett ..." ??

I'd also ask whether Port did exploit Bassetts lose-ness - I did not see most of the game, so can't comment.

Bassett was on Ebert for the most part, and gave him a bath when Port kicked it to him. Having said that Port didn't really use Ebert as much as they have in the past 2 weeks.

I think Bassett has actually taken the criticism on board and has made an attempt to be a lot tighter in recent weeks, with Johnson and Ebert, but has still managed to keep the rebounding part of his game there.

It didn't help him in the first round though that the forwards and midfield pressure was non-existant and Essendon's forward 50 was constantly left wide open.

Havn't read anything by A Jarman on Bassett.

Clearly Mr Rucci has much more of a histroy of this sort of thing in any case. just using it as a pertinent example.

Last two weeks Bassett has killed his opponents.

About two weeks ago Jars spent a bit of time passing comments on Bassett, and the fact he regularly plays off his opponent - and said it was a weakness that opposition sides could exploit. (Ie he seems to have effectivly said the same thing as Rucci - yet the title was bagging Rucci)

It 'sounds' like over the past 2 weeks he has played much more accountaqble, there again it sounds like he has been given 'jobs' on Johnson and Ebert so maybe this has contributed.

I'd treat Bassett as others should treat Chad at Port, realise that quite often they will be falling off their man and acting as a third up, as such it is important to make them pay whenever they leave their men.

Yeah I know, I think maybe that question needs to be asked of Tredders and Choco.

I am sure that Rucci wishes he could go back in time and not say that comment because he thought it was funny and that Port would continue to win whereas Craigy is Choco's daddy and Rutten is Tredders' daddy.

Bassett gave Ebert an absolute bath on the weekend.

I'm not a Power fan, but I almost felt sorry for Ebert, Bass just flogged him.

He's a tabloid journalist. Unfortunately over the last 3-5 years, The Advertiser has actively turned itself into a tabloid, so the crap he writes is considered to be a bonus.

give him a break, I'm sure there was a time he wanted to be a serious, credible journalist. now he's a tabloid hack, and you can be sure he knows it, warts, insecurities, and all.
