don't take to much notice on who the paper names as best players he played very well yesterday although i thought Van Reenen who is on the rookie list for you absolutly dominated in the ruck but sweeney was good also

Great to hear van Rheenen went well.

He was put on the rookie list as a long term prospect. As a kid recruited from Scoresby I don't think he was expected to make an immediate impact at VFL level so that's a real positive.

I don't think there's any rush to play Armitage. He's an outstanding young talent and I think he'll only benefit from getting regular match time in the VFL before making his senior debut.

He's not a tall defender but to me Voss seems to be the ideal candidate to return to the team next week. Unlike the Bulldogs we'll have to contend with a host of tall Essendon forwards and we could do with his class and composure down back.

Birss played? Did he get injured against i think it was the Lions when he replaced Ball? Unless i misread it.

Yes. I was surprised to read that Wall had kicked 5 goals. He looked a little slow and awkward in our pre-season games but that's a great sign.

Great to hear that we had such a big win. Might have to make the long trek down to Cranbourne to see what all the fuss is about.

I don't know where that came from actually.

During our game against the Lions Rod Butterss said at half time that Birss had injured his calf but then at the start of the third quarter he started back on the field.

He definitely played for the Scorpions and was singled out by Peter Banfield for having an excellent game.

I'm not convinced about him yet but it sounds like he couldn't have done any more to win his place back in the team.

Watched him play a bit for Morningside up here last year... he's going to be an elite player.

Exceptional athlete.

I was pleased the club had resisted the urge to play him straight away. Ideally you don't want to rush your youngsters. If he was to show that he was good enough for senior selection he'd not only need to play well but really dominate at VFL level and make it impossible to not select him. I reckon he's done that and we could really do with another hard at it midfielder against a team with a great young midfield that Port have.
