Sorry if Romeo has already posted this.

Wanted to gauge people's reaction on England. Do they wipe the slate (captain, coach, a few new players) or persist with what they have?

Michael Vaughan insisted he will not quit after his team failed to qualify for the ICC CWC semi-finals.

"I won't be retiring from one-day cricket. I am not stupid," said Vaughan after South Africa inflicted a nine-wicket defeat on England here on Tuesday to book the last place in the semi-finals.

It is the fourth successive time that England have failed to qualify for the last four since finishing runners-up to Pakistan in the 1992 tournament in Australia.

England failed to fire in the highly-charged match at Kensington Oval which both teams needed to win to keep their ICC CWC dreams on track.

South Africa dismissed England for a paltry 154, with medium-pacer Andrew Hall taking a career-best 5-18, and then cruised home with captain Graeme Smith smashing a 59-ball, 89 not out in a one-sided contest.

"I know it's an area (his position) of concern and it will be an area of talk over the next few days. The most important thing is getting England back on track," said Vaughan.

"There needs to be a lot of honesty. We, as an England team, have had a very disappointing six months. We got hammered in the ICC Champions Trophy, lost the Ashes 5-0, won the tri-series, smiled our way home on the flight, then turned up at the ICC CWC thinking we had a great chance of playing well.

"I firmly believed we would do a lot better than we have. To get knocked out of the World Cup in the circumstances that we have is not good enough for the talent in that dressing room."

Vaughan's dismal form with the bat continued as he fell for 17 and now has a miserable 130 in eight matches at the ICC CWC.

"My batting form has not been good at all in one-day cricket. I'm a very honest guy that says my position in the team is hugely in doubt because of my batting.

"But I still believe I am a very good captain, so people will have to sit down and discuss my position.

"We need to work out why it's gone wrong and work out who is the best person to lead us forward because the grass isn't always greener," said Vaughan whose injury allowed Andrew Flintoff to lead the team in Australia.

"It is not about Vaughan or (coach) Duncan Fletcher, it's about people coming up with a strategy, thinking about who is the best person to lead England forward, who is the best coach to lead England forward and if it's me and Fletch we will have to come forward and make a better strategy."

Besides Vaughan, Fletcher's position will also be under pressure after the ICC CWC exit but the England captain backed his coach.

"He is still an outstanding coach. I still think he has a tremendous amount to offer the English game. Only he knows how he is feeling at this moment in time. I know he will be very disappointed and hurt inside."

Vaughan said England's performance had let down the huge army of fans who had come to the Caribbean.

"It is a very sad day for English cricket, it's a horrible feeling to have walked off the park in Barbados and be booed by a lot of English supporters, rightfully so from the performance we put in.

"I fully understand why they have given us that kind of reception. It is a massive tournament. It is not a nice feeling but you have to accept it."

Let's be honest, England are shit at ODI Cricket.

They got excited after winning the CB Series, forgetting the fact that we fisted them for the majority of that Series, and that we really treated the Series as a chance to audition players for the World Cup.

They aren't good, and they got carried away based on a meaningless Series win to the point they actually thought they had a chance.

What a tool. I can't believe the "I'm not stupid" line. What the hell does he mean there anyway? Is quitting for the good of your country stupid? What a selfish knob.

But thats the thing, we really never gave ourselves a chance. We won the CB series but we knew it was a fluke, i cant remember the English players or supporters talking our chances up before the series at all, well nothing more than any other team was. English supporters and even the crickters know we are ****ing pathetic at ODI cricket, fluking some wins against the Aussies (the only team we actually win against besides minnows) didnt install a heap of confidence before ther world cup.

'I'm not stupid'
WTF?
He is a terrible ODI player, I'd make Collingwood the ODI captain and give Vaughan the flick.

His captaincy is worth at least 50 runs, though. :p

Most cricket lovers want to see England be competitive, but the EWCB continue to tightly embrace mediocrity. It's fun yet monotonous to poke fun at England, God knows I do, but everyone makes suggestions for improvement and England seem to either not listen, or make changes too late.

Vaughan must be dropped. It's that simple. I don't care how good his captaincy is supposed to be. Considering England lose far more than they ever win, the loss of his captaincy can't possibly hurt the win/loss ratio.

Of course Vaughan is not stupid enough to voluntarily step down, who in their right mind would? He has to be forcibly removed. He should not be selected in a single ODI in the upcoming English Summer.

A hundred against the Windies isn't much up from a hundred against a minnow. If he'd gotton one against one of the semi-finalists then he could have done the proverbial salute.

Being Lara's last game I hope West Indies have a win for his sake.

England being pansed and Vaughan getting a blob would be the cream and cherry on top.

The fact that if he did that it would be his first hundred in ODI cricket in 86 matches is the very reason he shouldn't be in the side.

His ODI average is 26.43, with a strike rate of 67.24. In all one-day cricket (List A) he has only scored 3 tons in 269 matches and also has an average of under 30. He is clearly more suited to first-class cricket than the one day game.

He may well be a good captain, but in my opinion England can't continue to carry a player in the top order who has such a modest record.

From memory that Nasser ton lost us the game, scored too slowly in a game where India chased down a big total after being 5 down for 100 & something.

Vaughan, what a plum, the reaon he doesn't want to give up the one day captaincy is because he thinks split captains will weaken him as Test skipper.

Selfish is the word, he should never play another one dayer for England.

Give him another couple of Test series to see if he can score any runs if not chop him from there too.

His captaincy is overrated, any captain would look good with Harmison, Hoggard, Jones & Flintoff circa 2004/2005.
