View Full Version : Players Nicks

After reading the thread where the poster asked why Selwood, I decided it may be a good idea to see what other players nicks (I think, forgive me if wrong), we can come up with. We all know about Bunnings and Pinocchio for Josh Wooden which are the ones we at BF came up with. Lets see if we can have a list of players nicks.
Former players can be named. For instance, I remember Karl Langdon being called "Nearly" whom I have forgotten from where, however it was because "he nearly kicked a goal, nearly took a mark" etc etc.
Lets see what other nicks we can come up with. :)

Actually, 'Bunnings' is Troy Selwood's nickname. Adam's is Smeagol for some reason:confused:
Lynch - The Big Unit, The Big F**king Unit, The Big Q
Wirrapanda - The Janitor, The Mop, The Broom, etc
Brett Jones - Bojo, Bones
Rowan Jones - Rojo, Roweena:D
Priddis - Sideshow Priddis
Judd - Magenius, Freak, God
Kerr - 'The People's Champion' (as named by Judd)
Hunter - HuntAAAAAA!
Spangher - Mr Spanky

I thought that Spangher's nickname was "Spangles" also "Embers" for Embley. "Armie" for Armstrong and "Seabs" for Seaby. I've also heard David Wirrapanda referred to as "the panda" and I remember people suggesting "petal" for Matt Rosa but I don't think that that one has stuck.

Also "Nico" for Mark Nicoski and I would like to suggest "The Hoof" for Shannon Hurn (in honour of his powerful kicking !):)

You've just mentioned the most obvious names for all our players there:D
Apart for 'Petal', where the f*ck did that come from:confused:

The nickname petal comes from matts last name "Rosa" as in a Rosa petal :)
Wirra = The Janitor!

Drew Banfield was known as "Banners" I believe. (Duhh ! Stating the obvious I know) and of course John Worsfold has always been "Woosha". I think that I can recall someone suggesting "Beaudacious" for Beau Waters at one point , but I don't think that that one stuck either !

Beau's nickname is "Jangles"
yup - as in 'bojangles'
also for seaby, if you've ever been to training you'll notice they call him 'seaber' - not seabs, but that might just be at training as it has a better ring to it
i remember seeing that poster with all the nicks on there, it was actually down at a fancy dress shop in osborne park on the front counter - i remember looking at it, but i've forgotten nearly all the names :o
ones i do remember are embley's - and it ain't embers - it's 'whack' - and ben sharp is gonzo as we know
all the other obvious one are correct - eg: juddy, brauny, kerry, etc - i'm sure they have others but
however there is one me and my brother have for adam hunter - and that is PIGMAN - named after the face he pulled when he knocked out matthew lloyd that time - kinda borrowed from that seinfeld episode, and now we yell it when ever we're at a game - confuses the opposition supporters nicely
funny story about that actually - we were at the breakwater when the we saw the whole eagles team down there having drinks (this was after they went out to adelaide in the finals a few years ago) - and of course we were drunk and chatting with the boys, so we told adam why we call him pigman and he, kasey green and coxy (who was wearing a fake afro for some reason!?) all lost it - beer was spilt :p
we also bought sampi a jug of beer - but he had to ask cousins first what he was allowed to have lol
samps: 'hey cuzz, what can i 'ave?'
cuzz: 'ahh, make it a carlton draught'
i'll always remember that - all the boys were absolute champs :thumbsu:

I think it's most accurately spelled as "Kerr-ee" (that's how they spelled it on Offsiders anyway) otherwise it ends up being Kerry as in Kerry O'Brian.
Every time I think Brett Jones, I think BJ, then Gobby.
I like Gobby.

Any West Caost Eagles supporters wanting to be drafted a player please go to the West Coast Eagles forum and then go to the nest and go into the first thread called West Coast Eagles draft or something like that and leave your name.
cheers

he's called whack because back in the day the other players used to think he used to go a bit whacko...
source: andrew embley himself - interview in ralph magazine
how bout that hug now stud? :D
ps: apparently cuz has a new nick name for wirra now, wirra is supposedly very political these days so he calls him 'nelson' - i'm assuming after nelson mandela... guess thats more of an in-house one

Interesting comment from Cuz (or you), but Wirra has been variously called 'Prince' or 'King' (either of which is at best a poor translation) but he is nonetheless considered 'royalty' amongst his people.
Good for him.

hmm that reminds me, was it wirra that was called 'prince of the pocket'?
bugger me if i can remember, but it sounds appropriate - pretty sure he was mentioned to have been what would be the equivalent of aboriginal royalty...
can anyone confirm?

No, Scott Chisholm was the Prince of Pockets. He was supposedly related to the British royal family or something.
Anyway, I actually bumped this thread to come up with some new nicknames for players for the start of the season, particularly the newer players.
LeCras: Frenchy
S.Selwood: Gunns
Brown: Leroy
Ebert: Bertie
and of course
Josh "THE FRIDGE" Kennedy:thumbsu:
Any others?

Scotty Chisholm was the Prince of the Pocket, but it was Gary Dhurrkay who was killed a few years ago. Apologies if Chisholm has also passed away.
