It's quite simple where we lost the match today.
You can play attacking footy all you want, but its not gonna get you anywhere unless your players play accountable football. Whenever Geelong got a point. Hawthorn's defence found lose men through the midfield and linked up nicely to there forward line. When Geelong had the ball in defence hawthorn's players manned up and closed in on the cats back line. The last quartrer the players went against the coaches game plan and man'd up. For the first time in the match we had the momentum and were in front, we should have won it from there, but you know the rest. This was the exact game plan Rodney Eade played against us in round 1.

It's an issue because we like to have Hunt kicking out, but to be honest, he's really not a defenders arse hole.
Problem. Always thought he would be better suited as kicking to our forwards off a wing.

I have defended Hunt for so long, but his discipline is pi$$ poor and he gets shown up in tight matches.

If anyone remembers the early 90's theme song, I have put a spin on it.
I shall post this every time we put a performance like today.
We're blue and white, there's not a doubt, we don't no how to win
the team with no committment, its the way its always been
they falter at a challenge, and disappoint us all
with fumbling hesitation we will cough up the ball
When the crowd thunders Go Cats, we let supporters down
We refuse to play with courage, till the final siren sounds
And the rival team will know that, they can easily beat the cats
Cos we chip the ball around and never to a pack!
We're the cat attack, (Soft Cats), Cat attack, Geelong
We're the cat attack, (Soft Cats)......
You get the picture...cheered me up a bit :)

Nice, but this bit is not true. Mooney's last kick was to a pack... of Hawthorn players!!! Otherwise, pretty funny :)

I used that term many o' time today...

Agree 100%...Reminds me of Hamill, built like tarzan plays like Jane. And would not know the meaning of accountability (or courage) if it hit him in the face

Plays like Jane?? Layed probably the best hip and shoulder I've seen this year so far / got reported for another similar effort. When are you sheep gonna get your own opinions and stop tossing each others wangs? Josh seems to be the scapegoat of the month but was not our worst today.
Who was he not accountable for today? Their forwards had nothing today. Disposal aside our defenders were not that bad. Our forwards are the lazy mother****ers who won't man up at kick-ins, and let the opposition run the ball out time after time. What did Mooney and Nath do today apart from drop marks? Were they accountable? NO!! If you gonna make a statement about a player, back it up.
This crap "built like tarzan plays like Jane"... come back with some substance.

MAN THE **** UP!
I used that term many o' time today...
Manning up is great, but when the Hawks are flooding so badly, look at the last play. They had at least 5 or 6 more players in the 50m arc.
We did man up, in the last 2 minutes it was man for man. That's why we had two opportunities with a minute or so to go.
It was a tough loss, that is all. We will get on with it with a win next week.

Accountable ?? How about Josh Hunt. I suggest you have a look at the tape and see how many times he could have cleaned up the ball carrier on possession of the pill. Some of their goals could so easily have been stopped if he put his heart and body on the line.
He needs to stop pissing it up at Lamby's and put his priority back into the club.

100% agree, shocker absolute shocker....no more defending him for me!
I have come to his defence in the past despite the big-head syndrome from which he suffered last year, but he did some dumb things yesterday - it isn't just Scarlett and Egan showing him up - they just highlight his one dimensional game. We have to ask whether his long kicking is enough.
Try watching with the sound off and you notice the lack of skill - we cannot just point to King and Byrnes either - we were weak and feckless under pressure. Strongly agree with the title of this thread - I foolishly believed that we had the grit to make up the small deficit in the last few minutes. We failed miserably!
We are currently copping it on radio and it is depressing.

Its games like these where the players who are not accountable need to noted. They don't show in the big wins because the hard work has been done by others.
Accountable means gut running, taking the crunch when that is all that will prevent opposition progress, one touch under pressure, and good decisions under pressure.
Hunt has shown a number of times he is not accountable, Kelly can't produce under pressure and for mine Corey gets a black mark. Byrnes is an enigma - gets the ball often, misses the target almost as often. King can't jump anymore -so say no more.
These are the depth players - good to have in the squad for emergencies but will not help win a premiership.
Lets see if Djerrkura, Sellwood (the only clearance specialist at the club), Grima, Varcoe can produce when the crunch is on. We must find out now.

I'm not sure what they can do with hunt, would callan be a better choice on a small forward? - Take note: Williams is a bloody good player and usually gets a few each game. I like Corey's attack on the ball but he does turn it over too much - thought he would've improved on that by now.
I don't think the team went down from lack of trying...I think we have some area's that need improving, there are 3-4 players not capable of playing to a high AFL standard - King, Byrnes, Hunt and maybe Mackie (although he is getting there and had a good game yesterday) and we simply must work on the clearances - this is where games are won and lost and this is where Geelong lost it yesterday.

Perhaps I should have used phrases like the bolded segment above...Gee, that's substance.
He layed a hip and shoulde ron someone whom didn't see him coming and would actually have been better served trying to win the contested ball...But then again, thats a foreign term to Hunt. We all know he has a heart the size of a pea (remember him ducking his head last year????)
we simply must work on the clearances - this is where games are won and lost and this is where Geelong lost it yesterday.
It's where we lose every game that our defenders don't keep us in. We get smashed nearly every week in clearancess.. This doesn't hurt you as much with an open free flowing style of game, but in a contested flooded game it's everything!
been better served trying to win the contested ball...But then again, thats a foreign term to Hunt. We all know he has a heart the size of a pea (remember him ducking his head last year????)
There you go again referencing one instance that the media decided for some reason to make back page news. Gary Jnr squibed out of a marking contest inside of forward 50 yesterday, running back for a mark... no one says a word??
"ducking last year" - newspaper / tv
"tarzan, acts like jane" - K-Rock.... have your own opinion and maybe you'll have something to back it up, and some credibilty to go with it.
Hunt is not in the team to win contested footy.. How many defenders do you see win anything but minimal contested ball? You'll struggle. When our midfiled are not turning the ball over, missing targets etc, they don't win the contested ball (Bartel excluded). How big are the hearts of Enright, Ling, Corey, Kelly etc?
