We have just finished round 4 in fourth position, do you guys think we can finish in the top 4? top 8? or even top 2?

I reckon we will finish about 6th.

Far too early I'd think, but the signs are good in that we have beaten opponents at venues, where in the past we have struggled.

The next 2 weeks are a nice little opening for us - Saints at home with some tall defenders missing. Would be a great time for Warren to have a big one.

The week after back to the "G" against a struggling Demons side.

Good time to really dig in and play some great team footy.

I heard there's gonna be rain for the St.Kilda game. Could be another stall in Tredreas comeback, poor guy can't take a trick. I think we can win the next two games but boy, will both St.Kilda and Melbourne be hungry for wins!

The next 3 games (St Kilda at home, Melbourne at MCG and Richmond at home) are games we need to win to make the top 8 but as PJ said it's far too early to look at those chances so we'll use the old cliche of 1 game at a time until at least mid season.............the last 3rd of the season is a long way away and we'll have some youngsters struggling by then given their lack of games under their belts and who knows how our injury list will look.......

From memory we struggle to win against Melbourne at the G even when we were at the top.

I did not expect the team to be 3 wins this early but I do not think that we will be top 4 at round 22.

Even the BOM (http://www.bom.gov.au/) predictions are at about 50% after 2-3 days as there are so many variables.......up here in Darwin it's about 1-2 days in the wet season unless there is a cyclone or tropical depression around directing the weather patterns or 3-4 days in the dry when they can safely say there will be a few days rain in coming months (without any idea of when)....

Correct, they are a definite bogey at the G.

True to form we should win the next three weeks, though, setting our season up pretty darn nicely. Which is awesome since before the season I thought we stood a fair chance of being 0-4 at this stage.

We always have but it will be another good test for our boys........

I did not expect the team to be 3 wins this early but I do not think that we will be top 4 at round 22.

The first 2 wins were bonuses given we played just over a half of footy in the 2 games.............

It's supposed to rain here for 3 days straight, starting late Wednesday, if you beleive the BOM. Noticed it raining in Perth today-and of course it rained in Melbourne yesterday so it's about flamin' time Adelaide got some.

3-1 is a great start but we need to win at least another 9 just to make the finals
top 4 we will need to win another 13 or 14

moral... a very long way to go... and things can turn to crap very quickly if you get ahead of yourself

lets just look at making the 8 at this stage...

Great start for you guys so far! Im a big wrap for Port and i do think you will make the 8. Top four might be going a bit too far but, your next 2 games are winnable games and that can be a great start to achieving top 4 status!!!! Do you think Pearce will play this week ???? He is a gun !!!!!

Yeah, choco has said that Pearce and Motlop are virtual certanties for the game against the Saints, while even Brogan is a chance to play (50-50)

As suggested, it's too early to be making too many assumptions. Although, I remain very skeptical that we have the list to make the top 4 by season's end. Top 8 though, is a definite possibility.

The next 3 games (St Kilda at home, Melbourne at MCG and Richmond at home) are games we need to win to make the top 8
All 3 games look to be winnable. If we're going to play finals this season, we'll probably need to win at least 2 of them.

The team flew out of out Melb straight after the game so hopefully this has helped out with the recovery period and we get up and beat the Saints Friday night.

But too early to predict where we will finish in the 8 though.

Probably not. See how we go when we start regularly playing good sides. At the moment Im hoping we will make the eight. If we can beat Saints and Melbourne then we are a real shot at getting reasonably high up the ladder.

I expected us to be 1-3 now so to be 3-1 is a great bonus.

All four teams we've just played have been bugaboos for us in recent years. We beat three of them. We've got a very tough month mid-June to mid-July, when we have Essendon, Brisbane away, Bulldogs away and West Coast. (But there's a week off after the Essendon game.) Other than that, and a couple of Geelong games in there somewhere, the fixture is fairly kind to us this year. Which is good, but we've got to actually go out there and win them one game at a time.

Bring on the Saints.

Its a funny start to the season (even though its too early to look too closely at the ladder), the current top 8 includes Hawthorn, Essendon, Geelong, Brisbane and ourselves - 5 sides that were not there last year... I doubt this will stay that way all year.

We have only played one side from the current top 8 in Adelaide and lost.

Although if we look at our form so far against the sides that performed well from last year, we are 1-1 against last years top 4, and 2-1 against last years top 8..... this isn't too bad and probably not that misleading (compare to Carlton who I dont think prior to the weekend had played a top 8 side from last year in pre season or season proper.

Still dont think we can make 4 though - we have put ourselves in a spot where the top 8 should be achievable - especially if we can manage our next 3 games well.

Should win the next three, even the one against the dees should be a walk over for you guys.

Top four as silly as it sounded before the season began is now a clear possibility for PA this year plus Tredrea can only improve with game time.

The arguement about playing teams from the top 8 now gets a bit circular. Those teams we played and beat are not in the top 8, because they lost to us, and those that beat us (Adl) are int he 8 because they beat us. That 1 games makes a difference when we have only played 4 games.

I think Freo will be 5-8 by year end, and I think Collingwood are a chance to do likewise.

Winning 2 of the next 3 games would be good - I reckon we should beat Richmond at AAMI easily, but the other two games are definitely not certanties. 1 win from them would be great. Even with 2 wins that will make it a 5-2 start to the season which is brilliant!

Prior to the season starting I thought 7-10 was our range with 9th as my prediction (poor Richmond would be jealous). After the first 4 rounds I still think that is our range, but am edging towards thinking we'll finish 7th or 8th.

The next 3 will be crucial, win at least 2 and I think we'll make the 8. I can't see us top 4 this year though. Our forward line is still dsyfunctional and our backline KPP's at times not much better. Our brilliant rucks and vastly improved midfield will carry us far, but only so far.

Agree, but I think our forward line is very close to being the real deal, and could click into place by midseason. Our backline, however, needs either more development time (still holding out hope for Chaplin and Alipate) or some new cattle altogether.

I don't see any posts here that are over the top. We all know the season goes one game at a time. (Morell, you're getting a little annoyed about posters excessively rubbishing our players. This season, I'm beginning to get a little annoyed by posters telling other posters what to post on here, especially the "keep a lid on it" crowd. We KNOW. We're here to talk footy and have some fun. That's going to include a little occasional exuberance. We KNOW it's all about one week at a time, but that's no reason not to enjoy the positive vibes.)

I don't see any posts here that are over the top.The notion that we can even begin considering being in the top 4 is over the top. A thread, on where we may finish, after ROUND 4, is over the top.

Now thats not to say it won't or can't happen, but I find the idea of discussing it when there are 18 more games to go kind of ludicrous. I will admit that it irks me, mainly because the media is saturated with it. Just now I finished watching "On the Couch", Gerald Healy in all his wisdom asked Sheehan if the Dogs can win the flag, after round 4. Sheehan responded with such assurance that any Dogs fan would surely tear up their memberships...There are threads on the main board asking if we can win the flag, asking if we will be top 4. Saying freo are gone etc etc etc

But if you so desire to indulge in such prophecy, as we all do from time to time, obviously ... feel free. Just as I will feel free to comment on how silly you look. :p

We all know the season goes one game at a time.Obviously.

(Morell, you're getting a little annoyed about posters excessively rubbishing our players. This season, I'm beginning to get a little annoyed by posters telling other posters what to post on here,I have never told anyone what to post.

Indeed, I defended the right of posters to be able to rubbish players without consequence...I really do not understand where you are going with this....

Are you comparing someone calling an AFL listed player "as soft as a pillow" , or entire threads designed to abuse one of our own players to me saying perhaps we shouldn't be getting ahead of ourselves and that our expectations are unfairly growing out of proportion? They are on a completely different scale Sandola.

especially the "keep a lid on it" crowd.I find the up and down crowd far worse.

One week we're great and will be top 4 the next no-hope and we should all give up.

We KNOW. We're here to talk footy and have some fun. That's going to include a little occasional exuberance. We KNOW it's all about one week at a time, but that's no reason not to enjoy the positive vibes.)Lets hope we keep up the exuberance after a few losses. ;)

One week at a time.

We have to win 2 from 3 from here I think to finish top 4, and all three if we want to be second. No easy task. This weekend is a "must win" and although we have the wood over Hawthorn they are vastly improved this time around.

Now would be a great time to pull out one of our Freo/Collingwood perfromances from earlier in the year. Really tough, team-oriented footy. The absolute key in the next two weeks will be stoppage work and centre clearances. In the last two matches this has been woeful during patches of the game. Our midfield has to take more responsibility during those ruts we get into.

And Choco has to trust the players. I think it's clear that we have a side capable of whumping Hawthorn. He's got to let them do it, without the artificial constraints of zoning, tempo, etc.
