Hi Footy fans...

What began Round 2 on Easter, one of the days that families get together and be happy, ended this weekend tragically for a family and the SA football world.

A promising Under 19 grade SANFL player from West Adelaide, Jake Watson, son of 1983 West Adelaide premiership player Larry Watson, died in hospital after a devastating accident during a underage match between West and the Eagles. The match was postponed immediately.

In the aftermath of this dark day in SA football, the players and coach Tony Burgess assembled at Richmond Oval, at the same spot where young Jake had fallen and sang the club song.

Jake Watson had an excellent year in 2001, being selected for SA Under-18 duty for the Teal Cup carnival and playing in last year's Westies U-17 premiership team.

The rest of Round 2 continued this weekend on Saturday down at the Bay where Macca scored his first win as coach of Norwood at the expense of Glenelg by 9 points.

Down at Unley Oval, the home side dismantled (or de-clawed) the Panthers with a 74 point routing by the Blues.

On Sunday, the Westies U-19 team saw their League side onto Woodville in what could be described as an honour guard, and the league players wearing black armbands in memoriam of Jake Watson. But the Eagles didn't show any mercy, doing away with West by 27 points.

Here are the scores from rest of Round 2.

Finally, my condolences to the Watson family and the WAFC. This can only spur on the team-mates that he leaves behind.

Rest in peace Jake.

See you at the Footy.
