View Full Version : Hawk Williams To Miss

I heard on SEN that Mark Williams could be sidelined for up to 8 weeks with a knee injury.
Now, one thing I heave learnt is to take with a grain of salt what you hear on SEN (remember the rumour that Cooney had done his achillies & would miss the season?).
Nothing (as yet) on the AFL Website, tho there is mention on the Hawks BF board & the main AFL board.
Not good news for Hawks fans, tho it might assist the Doggies this week as Williams & Croad are hard to replace.
Good for us. Bad for them.
Who will Morris play on now?
Who's going to kick their goals? Boyle? Dixson?

borgy, you would know better than most on here, does Franklin take many overhead marks? If not, then we might play Morris on him, remember he flogged Fev last season, so someone who is quick isn't going to worry him too much.

I havent really noticed him taking marks over his head particularly so im not sure. Best to ask a Hawks supporter. I would play Wight on him. Similar body type, similar aerobic capacity. If hes their best forward we dont have many concerns.
Harris on Dixson
Wight on Franklin
Hargrave on Boyle
Simple. Williams to play loose man down back and get him some confidence getting cheap touches, ala Heath Shaw.
I think our biggest problem is going to be Lewis. He has had a great season to date. We have to stop him creating in the midfield to win those clearances.
Boyd on Lewis

Pretty important to how they set up down back.
Jacobs is out as well.
Shit!!!
The Thirsty Dogs still wont be able to fill a full team. Although, looking at FDOTM's team i would probably win with 15 players:p (only teasing:thumbsu:)

Hmm, we're concerned over the loss of Willo, as he needs only a sniff to kick a goal these days (3 goals last week in limited opportunities against Scarlett, for example).
Contrary to popular belief, Franklin is now holding on to marks, even in contested situations and he will be our most dangerous forward. Play your best defender on him, but make sure he has the pace to go with Buddy.
Dixon is our sole experienced forward and he'll probably play out of the square. CHF will probably alternate between Boyle and Roughead. You know your own defenders better, but Hargrave is probably a better match for Dixon, and Harris a better match for whoever plays CHF.
Jacobs is our defensive general but doesn't go too well when forced to play on a man. Hodge will probably spend more time down back to cover Jacobs' loss to play as a sweeper, which will cost our midfield drive.

I am not saying Franklin isn't a danger overhead/contested mark situation, just that he is an even greater danger with his pace/mobility/ground level work. Really think Morris is the best option.

Williams is having an arthroscope, to remove some loose cartilage, and may need a further operation to get his KNEE right again. I have no idea where Channel 10 got the info from that he has a broken bone in his foot.
Mark Evans from the HFC was on radio this afternoon, it is definitely his knee..

Harris -Roughead??? Perhaps Harris can play up forward??
Hargarve - Franklin
Wight - Boyle
Morris maybe a defensive midfield job on Mitchell or Hodge?
Hargrave should get the first job on Franklin as it just seems logical, perfect player for Hargrave to play on for size etc.
If any problems arise, there are different options with Morris also a great matchup.
Hargrave can also be moved up the ground to create run.

Franklin will rotate between HFF and FF this week I think... depending on how Roughy and Dixon start... Roughy is in pretty poor form lacking confidence in front of goal... It'll be interesting to see if Clarkson has any tricks up his sleeve. We will look to kick a few goals from the midfield, Young, Ossy & Birchall, Lewis drifted forward for an easy shot on goal last week as well... (1 behind resulted)
